Cricket

What was the size of the boundary though?

I feel like these records need a bit of an asterix on them.

283/4 off of 21 makes it sound like someones back garden.

We can churn out all the batsmen we like, we still won't win until we get a few good FAST bowlers.

I just want 1-2. In a billion people, it can't be hard!:(

There are none even in the present u-19 crop, apparently.

There's a chinaman bowler though. Should be interesting that.

u-19 WC next month. Always a good watch.

The batting talent we have is ridiculous. You watch how Sanju Samson plays against established bowlers and it blows your head right off. If he's not our next regular wicketkeeper batsman then I'll eat my hat off.

@Zing, heard Harsha Bhogle raving about that chinaman bowler. Still no pace bowler though, although we can potentially have a pace bowling attack of Yadav, Aaron and Shami and all three of them are capable of bowling at 140+

I've already given up hope on Yadav. He's like a fast, moderately better version of Vinay Kumar.

I was a big fan because he bowled fast and did that regularly, but frankly, at the international level, he should be capable of stringing together a few overs together of good bowling and he so rarely does that.

He does not have a game plan when bowling and that is just disappointing.

I would LOVE it if he proved me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

Aaron's just injured too much. Maybe he'll come good but I'm not sure how good he is at bowling in spells. He bowls alright in ODIs, though.

On the WK front, I expect Dhoni to retire in the next 15 months or so.. I think he's needed at the moment because the team is young and he is so damn good at handling the captaincy and takign the pressure off. Tactically weak generally but did well against SA... though a liability as a batsman.

We've just started accepeting that he's not very good away, I really think our probability of winning would go up decently if Dinesh Karthik was the batsman isntead of Dhoni. We let too many good positions slip from 6 down.

Dhoni for the next 12-15 months, then a year or so of DK and then Samson. Samson's fabulous and is frankly wasted at u-19. He spends the summer smacking international bowlers around and then a major part of the next 11 months playing u-19 cricket which he's way above the standard of.

On new talent.. I liked the look of Karan Sharma at the IPL. Surely a future there.. showed much better control than Mishra. I would go as far as to say I've not seen any other leg spinner show as much control as he does in international cricket right now.. or even in the last few years.

Just checked his numbers and he's got a good first class record.. and won some BCCI award. Good to see.

Good fielder and a decent batsman as well.

Sri Lanka are playing with 4 WK/Batsman in their playing XI with another Kusal Perera in the squad. WTF?

Watching Ranji.. really is such a poor quality competition. They should cut the number of teams.

200+ to get on the final day, 8 wickets in hand for Maharashtra and Vijay Zol some time back made some room and tried to loft a ball over cover.. :wenger:

And again.. stepping outside off stump this time to play some shot and got a leading edge.. I had read great things about this guy.

Maharashtra need 96 to win. Zol's got a lot of runs from edges.

Zol really getting into his own now, he has played iqbal abdulla pretty well. That other guy Jadhav has looked pretty good too.

Jadhav looks an alright player. Maharashtra about to win this by 8 wickets.

Is there a better T20 team in the world than Melbourne Stars?

White, Wright, Maxwell, Hodge, David Hussey, Wade, Bird and Malinga in their team.

Seeing as no one knows what the IPL teams are going to look like at the minute probably.

What's this shit with ICC making BCCI, ECB and CA incharge of everything?

Seems really idiotic.

If it's not media sensationalism, I think the game's not going to last more than 10-15 years.

Really weird how the 3 cricket boards constantly try to knock down the rest. Having cricket penetrate more markets would surely help their revenues in the long term.

The T20 world cup next month is a great example of how fecked up cricket is. They've come up with a bizarre format, which allows a lot of associates to qualify, but the 'world cup' is divided into 2 phases, the first of which involves only the qualified associates and Zimbabwe + Bangladesh, out of which only the 2 best teams qualify. For the first week of the WC, none of the top 8 countries play a single match.

And they're also trying to alter the format as best as possible to restrict the ODI WC to 10 teams.

It's like the sporting equivalent of the caste system.

In other news, am watching Ranji and Vohra and Jiwanjoth look like class players.

What a win by Pakistan. And no less than what we deserve. Disgraceful by arilanka. Negative tactics for four days and time wasting on the fifth. Cowards.

I agree.

They way they batted in the first 2 days was disgraceful. Ironically them trying to be positive in their batting today might have cost them in the end. Srilanka are the most boring team in the world

You are forgetting their bowling, six fielders on leg side and half the bowls outside the leg stump for our first innings. Hopefully this teaches them a lesson in future test matches.

Good article on the recent revamp of the ICC, does anyone think this is a good idea?

it should have a thread of its own. I think its a disgrace to sport. For something like this to even be planned just shows how corrupt the sport of Cricket is. What a shame because i love it personally. India, England, Australia have too much power in the game. Its top heavy. A meeting needs to take place between heads of the other countries and a potential split may need to be discussed from the ICC because it is too unfair. There are some serious issues in Cricket and its only going to get worse.

Pretty disgusted by it. It's literally like United, Liverpool, Arsenal saying that they are guaranteed a place in the champions league no matter where they finish in the league because they are the biggest clubs and the rest just fight it out for 4th spot.

Dont think a thread here will generate much or any debate. TBF the English and Australian boards have been de facto rulers of the ICC for the past two decades but this takes the cake. This is worse than the super league being proposed a few years back, three boards only looking to maximize their revenues without caring about the sport at all.

According to cricinfo, while ECB and CA have guaranteed the top 8 members that they will regularly arrange tours with them per cycle, the BCCI has proposed no such agreement. Leaving them free to choose who they play and whenever they want to.

Am in favour of all the other boards to set up their own association and see how these three boards like playing only against each other for a year or two. Although the lack of money means that will never happen.

The BCCI can feck off. Surely even they wouldn't be retarded enough to pull out of ICC events?

They're bluffing. They'd get cleaned out and a new office instated in a week if they do that. People don't care about administration in India, but they want to see India compete. The ODI WC is a big deal.

I can't remember an actual competitive match India played in which had 250~ as the par score.

These new rules need to change.

Really awful to watch.

Pakistan vs SA producing the only decent ODIs these days.
