Cricket

There was a lot of focus on Indian batting but this aussie batting is just as dodgy now. Over this current WTC cycle their top 5 have all struggled to get any runs

Greatest bowler of all time? Let's calm down.

It's amazing how batsman today can't seem to play on pitches that have a bit of deviation. It's as if they've become so used to playing on dead pitches that as soon as it starts moving their defenses aren't able to cope.

2nd lowest test average ever. Ridiculously good in Australia where he led the team to two series wins having never won there before.

I'm surprised he's only played in 41 Tests. Back in the day it was the only metric to judge bowlers. ODIs were good and all that but not taken too seriously.

I went to bed with India 120-7 and missed one of my favourite sporting hobbies - watching the Aussies completely crumble :(

It's an open secret as a functioning batting unit their top order has been a mess since the Ashes over in England. That Marnus innings

If Bumrah has another quality touring year of Australia and England away he will hit the conversation of greatest test bowlers - I think he struggles outside of India with that conversation due to his relatively small quota of tests.

Mcgrath and Walsh are revered as much for their longevity in tormenting us by English Cricket fans as much as their ridiculous averages and skill. Bumrah hasn't hit that yet.

He's just not that durable so they have to ration him even when he's fit.

Lillee and Donald only played about 70 tests (admittedly, different circumstances for Donald) and Malcolm Marshall played 81 - so hopefully Bumrah has at least 40 tests left in him.

Walsh yes, more of a workhorse to be fair. But McGrath was a truly great bowler. Not that he was particularly exciting to watch but he guaranteed wickets..Bumrah's 30, I don't think he'll be able.to play enough Tests to enter any serious discussion. Shame really.

Back then 80dd Tests was an insane amount. He's got another two or three years left near his peak. Whether he's got another 40 tests? Might be difficult considering the amount of cricket and demise of test cricket.

For clarity I would have McGrath ahead of everyone - just used Walsh as an additional example.

while the jibes are amusing, it should be remembered that England's greatest bowler required global warming to go his way to align the clouds to put up good numbers

jack leach was taking wickets in the womb.

I don't know if 33 is that old nowadays though - with modern training, fitness, recovery etc.

They play less ODIs and more t20s nowadays so the number of balls they bowl are fewer (at least compared to the 90s-00s bowlers).

India, England and Australia will play a good number of tests per year for the foreseeable future. It's everyone else who's scraping the barrel - but that's always been the case.

Steyn probably missed out on at least 100 test wickets, as SA played so few tests in his peak. Between 2007-2015 he only played 67 matches in total. Anderson played 95 in that time, and he wasn't even an established starter for England until 2008.

Anderson was only getting started at Bumrahs age.

The best 2 bowlers I’ve seen are Warne and Malcom Marshall. Marshall bowled 90+mph with the control & swing of a Anderson. I haven’t seen anybody come close to anything like that before & since, not even Bumrah who has been the premier fast bowler in the World for some time now.

Btw, what was the Perth pitch like? That pink kookaburra ball must have been swinging sideways under the lights or something.

I'll post the twitter wicket highlights in a min - it was pace and bounce.

He hasn't played enough tests though, for example Waqar had the same average and much lower SR than Bumrah playing the same number of tests but ofcourse as he became older and got injures it went up. Before saying that batting today is better, the last few years have been historically bad for batsman in tests all round. So actually it's a very good time for bowlers.

Kimber did a good video on this. If you compare the average of bowlers in the same test, Steyn is the bowler who outperforms the most.

Cant & wont compare previous greats.. But this generation, Bumrah is certainly sitting at the top right now.

Hitting bed tonight after a beer to many. Hoping to catch an evening session of India building a 200+ lead

Nothing better than Aussie Comms at home behind the game. Music to my ears.

one of yours is also there, Vaughan. To enjoy more.

Rana looks like a very competent first change bowler.
Yeah, likes the look of him, think he can replace Siraj. Siraj has been off the boil for a while in Tests now. may just need a recharge.
Edit: I believe Shami gonna be there for the last three tests.

Siraj looked great for the first 5 tests. From then, like the famous warne saying, he played the same test 30 more times. Least improved player in our team. I don’t understand how after 4 years in the team he can’t bowl a single spell of sustained bowling. He just bowls a few good balls. His average of 32 given how bowlers are performing around the world in this era is so bad.

I genuinely don’t understand how he gets into the team in any format, especially when there are so many good young talents around him.

Yeah. He's coming to a point where he will need to do something about it. He's a character so I wouldnt put past him to improve, but he needs to do something about it.

I think a lot of the players are either too raw or injured. Krishna is an example.
