Why does Root not go up to 3?
@SkillsIan Bell?
Joe Root, for me, is slowly falling a couple of levels below Kohli, Smith and Williamson. I reckon Pujara deserves a place in the top tier.
He doesn’t like it and wants to bat 4. in his 40 innings at 3 he is averaging 40, at his favourite no4 he is averaging 47Why does Root not go up to 3?
My word jennings. Hopefully thats the nail in the coffin for him.

Became the 17th wicket England have lost LBW or Bowled this series, and the Windies have lost 4 in those ways been the big difference between the sidesButtler seems to get out an awful lot aiming lazy, flat footed drives at balls pitched on off stump.
Hard not to see England winning from this position, basically 142/0 going into day 3BBC getting a little over excited
Yeah completely. I doubt Wood will be able to sustain this sadly, given his injury record, but with him, Archer and (hopefully) Stone around the squad we should have plenty of pace options at last.Wood regularly clocking over 90mph and just clocked 95!
Would love to see him and eventually Jofra Archer in the team.
Typical England really. The underperforming players turn up in the dead rubbers and then keep themselves in the side for the next series, where they continue to underperform.
We haven't won the dead rubber of a losing series since 2008.Typical England really. The underperforming players turn up in the dead rubbers and then keep themselves in the side for the next series, where they continue to underperform.
We never seem to win the dead rubbers in series we've won either. That's just a feeling though, not based on stats, I haven't checked.We haven't won the dead rubber of a losing series since 2008.
Yeah true, my mind is still in the days of Ian Bell, Cook's 244 etc. for some reason.Not really, Jennings and Denly have still performed poorly. The other players are consistent starters anyway apart from Burns who is on his first tour.
Strange, was sure England won the Ashes dead rubber where Cook hit 244 but apparently it was drawn.We haven't won the dead rubber of a losing series since 2008.
I think a lot of credit should go to Root for how he has handled the situation with Gabriel yesterday, if the lip reading is accurate of course.
A lot has been said about sledging in recent times and what is/ isn't crossing a line. I think it's great that Root has, rather than reacted, told Gabriel that he's out of order and people shouldn't be making comments like that anywhere, never mind on a cricket pitch with cameras and microphones everywhere.
The greatest response he could have made was hitting that century and being safe in the knowledge that the Windies need a miracle to avoid a defeat.... albeit they have won the series.

Doubt he's that bothered tbh. If he was on 98 it'd be a different story.I'd be pretty peeved if I were Stokes. Sure, its a team game, but we've got the best part of 170 overs to knock them over and he needed 2 runs for a 50.
About time Anderson got some wickets this series!
