Joe Root, for me, is slowly falling a couple of levels below Kohli, Smith and Williamson. I reckon Pujara deserves a place in the top tier.

Buttler seems to get out an awful lot aiming lazy, flat footed drives at balls pitched on off stump.

Became the 17th wicket England have lost LBW or Bowled this series, and the Windies have lost 4 in those ways been the big difference between the sides

Ordinary, ordinary captaincy from Root this. Why on earth is he bowling a spinner after 18 overs on a pitch that isn't turning before he gives Wood or Stokes a go.

And then Braithwaite (of the two of them!) goes and does that.

Root is truly an awful captain. Now he's over bowling Wood. You've got Jimmy and Broad for goodness sakes.

I couldn’t even catch a ball from that height in a perfect position with 2 hands

BBC getting a little over excited

I would have liked a series whitewash, but it seems like the lads aren’t really up for it without Holder there to lead them.

Wood regularly clocking over 90mph and just clocked 95!

Would love to see him and eventually Jofra Archer in the team.
Yeah completely. I doubt Wood will be able to sustain this sadly, given his injury record, but with him, Archer and (hopefully) Stone around the squad we should have plenty of pace options at last.

Typical England really. The underperforming players turn up in the dead rubbers and then keep themselves in the side for the next series, where they continue to underperform.
We haven't won the dead rubber of a losing series since 2008.

Not really, Jennings and Denly have still performed poorly. The other players are consistent starters anyway apart from Burns who is on his first tour.
Yeah true, my mind is still in the days of Ian Bell, Cook's 244 etc. for some reason.

Strange, was sure England won the Ashes dead rubber where Cook hit 244 but apparently it was drawn.

I think a lot of credit should go to Root for how he has handled the situation with Gabriel yesterday, if the lip reading is accurate of course.

A lot has been said about sledging in recent times and what is/ isn't crossing a line. I think it's great that Root has, rather than reacted, told Gabriel that he's out of order and people shouldn't be making comments like that anywhere, never mind on a cricket pitch with cameras and microphones everywhere.

The greatest response he could have made was hitting that century and being safe in the knowledge that the Windies need a miracle to avoid a defeat.... albeit they have won the series.

Yeah, I literally came to this thread to post this link: http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/25975177/shannon-gabriel-regret-field-comments-says-joe-root

It would be interesting to know what Gabriel said, though. If we are sanctioning players for sledging I hope that it was really minor otherwise I'm worried that homophobic abuse could apparently be deemed less problematic than some of the things that have earned players demerit points over the past few years.

His press conference comments were very measured .

I'd be pretty peeved if I were Stokes. Sure, its a team game, but we've got the best part of 170 overs to knock them over and he needed 2 runs for a 50.

Doubt he's that bothered tbh. If he was on 98 it'd be a different story.

About time Anderson got some wickets this series!

:D

I was watching him this afternoon bowling absolutely brilliantly. Perfectly controlled aggression. Line and length.

One thing is for sure. England will miss him and his presence on the field.
I just hope that he carries on for a few more years.
Proper professional who even now is trying to improve.
