Cricket

We pretty much bottled it IMO. Had the match in pocket.

No, they weren't. Women's cricket isn't as predictable as men's.

I dont watch women cricket so I cant comment on that but this is what cricinfo wrote.

How did it get here? I don't think anyone in the India camp know what hit them. They were cruising at 191 for 3. Then Shrubsole came in and nipped out wickets in a hurry as England have created magic. What a stunning endorsement for the tournament. What a sensational final we've had. You couldn't have asked for a better game than this. Lord's goes wild. India will have every reason to believe victory has been stolen from right under their nose.

Veda Krishmamurthy's dismissal set the alarm bells ringing. India also perhaps erred by sending Sushma Verma ahead of Deepti Sharma. That gave England a window of an opportunity to build pressure

That does suggest that the match was all but won.

The wickets came about because they weren't ever really on top of the run rate in a womens game. They were ahead sure, but it's a bigger ask than years of watching mens cricket makes it seem.

Fair enough, like I said I dont watch women cricket so didnt think a runrate of under 6 was a big deal.

How can you say it wasn't a complete bottlejob. Just look at this

Because the rate required was always very tough for women's cricket and you're judging it by mens standarda. Two, most of the wickets was good bowling

Good to see the South East Asians supporting Indian women team in this thread. God knows in our area, the women need every bit of boost they can get.

It was all but won. Amazing turnaround from England with 6 overs to go

Not sure if you are being sarcastic but I was rooting for India till the ninth wicket fell.

Cracking game.

Pleased for womens Cricket.

India chucked that away. I understand the context, it's not the mens game.

But it was theirs.

Spot on. People are benchmarking this against the men's game. The pressure of the run rate was always there. India should have still won, but it looks far worse.

There are people criticizing Krishnamurthy, but if not for the way she played initially, we wouldn't even be in it.

Not sarcastic at all. Follow some Pakistani cricket writers on twitter and they were all rooting for India. Good stuff.

It's not a huge deal, but it's not a sure thing either. When you add in the pressure of a final it was always going to be difficult and I'm not at all sure it was an easy pitch to bat on. When Sarah Taylor gets nearly fifty odd without hitting a boundary it seems difficult to time it.

Probably should have won it, but they still had a way to go.

India women proving consistent with their men in terms of bottling it in finals. The new South Africa.

Honestly there was no need for it, but go on with your tiresome trolling.

Ah yeah, yeah it was good to see. The way pakistani women were welcomed home was a bit disgraceful, thought india's win might do something for the game in asia.

You know you need to reach the finals to bottle it. Atleast we manage to reach the latter stages in Cricket.

Not saying it was an easy ask but at least three wickets were just pure nerves/stupidity.

Am I the only one who mentioned this? Indian 'bottling this game' has been said by 5 or more people just above! Its just an observation.

You're losing all objectivity.

Well done to the English team, very good comeback. Having runs on the board just proved too much pressure once Raut went. Disappointing result but an exciting final, hopefully this tournament goes some way towards promoting the women's game.

Hope it provides optimism in the women's game in India. It seems unlikely your best ever batter and bowler will make it to the next world cup, so players need to take confidence from this and step up.

Yeah hopefully, my TL was full of discussion about this match. Gutted that we didn't win it as it could've been a 1983 for women's cricket. Hopefully we get a women's T20 league now.

No, we're just bored of you repeatedly stating a lack of interest in the sport, but appearing whenever you feel India can be criticised. It's childish nonsense and it clogs up otherwise decent threads.

Hopefully it is used as a motivation. Great seeing a sellout crowd. Great for women's sport.

I'm not employed to entertain you so that's, not my responsibility.
