Cricket:India's tour of England 2011

I would prefer seeing Dravid openinig and Kohli at 3 in that case, though. Think Kohli's that good..

Get Tendulkar to open the batting, it's clearly not working for him at number 4.

You mean Kohli over Mukund?

I assumed that the thinking was Kohli's in contention only if #6 opens up and they see Raina starting for sure, while Mukund might be required to open if Sehwag/Gambhir fail fitness tests.

I meant that Kohli could've spent some time in the practice match to acclimatize himself with the English pitches. Dunno why they've picked Mukund or VVS over Kohli though, both of them are acclimatized enough to the English pitches. The only excuse I could think of is that maybe he's jetlagged.

True.

Dhoni out for 2 in the warm up.

Fletcher requested 100 overs for India to bat and looks like we're going to be bowled out 30 overs short.

The only one who's done well is Mukund and he's probably not going to be starting.

Dhoni is slowly turning into a joke, it would be great if Saha get some runs to put some pressure on him.

No one will even notice Saha's runs, tbf.

If it was a notably decent batsman like Karthik or Parthiv Patel, maybe, but Saha's always a bit of a nonentity to make up the numbers.

I'm wondering why they bought Saha though instead of Karthik and Patel. Patel is 100% a better batsman than both of them(even Dhoni, it could be argued) and is a good wicket keeper(not great though). It would've made more sense to bring Patel in.

It's weird how some players are just dismissed from the selectors' thoughts regardless of what they do. I don't think players like Jaffer, Dinesh Karthik, RP, Irfan, Uthappa, Rayudu have even been discussed at the selectors' meeting for a very long time.

Irfan is another product of the T20, I guess. Looked such a promising bowler, had genuine capability of being an all rounder but is just now a slow medium bowler. Jaffer's absence is more puzzling considering they've picked turds like Vijay for opening our batsmen, but someone like Jaffer who has played in England a lot isn't picked. Karthik deserves a go also. Dunno about RP, Uthappa and Rayudu though. Rayudu was picked for WI series and didn't looked special.

What? Rayudu hasn't played for us yet..

Nope. You're thinking of Badrinath maybe? Rayudu hasn't debuted yet.

Some people are talking shit here. Dhoni is going through a terrible run in tests but you are telling me Parthiv Patel could have played that innings in World cup final?

The talk is about who should be Dhoni's backup here, not replacing Dhoni. Oh and I don't think there is too much difference between Patel's batting and Dhoni's batting.

We're talking about technique, not handling pressure. The WC situation was all about pressure and there's no one in the world who can do it better than Dhoni. In England, it's all about technique and I think Dinesh Karthik is far superior to Dhoni in that aspect.

I expect England to lose the 3rd test. We always tens to slip up when we are in control of a series. Did it against Australia and Pakistan last year as well.

Hopefully we'll have learnt from those experiences. Meant to be a full squad, with Trott and Swann fit, and Tremlett back in contention. Interesting selection dilemma.

Dhoni has been a joke with the bat for quite some time now except for the final. Even i could have scored more than dhoni in these 2 tests.

Just announced the squad - Trott is out and replaced by Bopara, but Swann and Tremlett are in, and Finn is recalled as well.

I wonder if England might consider the extra bowler for this one, as it would be difficult to leave either Bresnan or Tremlett out. In any case, Bresnan was pretty much an all-rounder in the last test.

I'd stick with just the four bowlers. The bowlers should be competing with each other for those spots, not to change the structure of the team which is working so well.

My instinct says bring Tremlett back in for Bresnan, but it depends on the pitch and his fitness.

What's the point of an extra bowler when 4(three really, Swann's not been doing any work) are taking you 10 wickets?

I hope Finn or Tremlett play. Knowing that there's an infinite supply of batsmen coming through must be demoralising for the opponent bowlers.

Why no 4 seamers? Swann has been a non entity this series and with Bresnan in the team you don't need his batting abilities.

Although I wouldn't argue with your reasoning there, I think England will give strong consideration to retaining Bresnan after his exploits in the last test, especially as there is likely to be a slight doubt about the fitness of both Tremlett and Swann.

The batting still looks pretty strong if they move Bell, Pietersen, Morgan and Prior up one place and regard Bresnan at seven as the all-rounder. That still leaves Broad and Swann at eight and nine.

Northamptonshire 197/0 in 46 overs.

Zaheer Khan bowled 3 overs

Why does Mishra bowl so many fecking no balls?

3 in his 16 overs.
