Cricket:India's tour of England 2011

I reckon Pete, Mockney, yourself and I should start a revolutionists' party. We'd be top..

Frankly, Mr UpNorth, Windies would've put up a better fight. How did they achieve their number one status? 12 wins against Bangladesh or something?

We beat you home and away. You've almost returned the favor to only one of those feats. :)

But as I said, this is the best time to have seriously underperformed. I'm less affected due to the highs of the recent past. You only have to see how well we've played in the past to know the quality of this team. Basically, shit happens and you learn from these experiences.

I think it's safe to say this India side is comfortably the worst 'number 1' team of all time.

Ah yes, the good ol' "I'm not really bothered anyway" excuse.

When a post count of 144 in this thread seem to suggest otherwise.

You really should learn to read.

I never said I wasn't bothered. I'm very passionate about Indian cricket but I'm not a greedy fan. Its like when Spain won the world cup. I would expect their fans to be more tolerant and unaffected having seen their team achieve what they had dreamt of for ages.

That's something you can say easily after the fact, like 'well, we knew we were never going to beat Barca in the final anyway, but at least we were there and we got number 19, so lets not be greedy.'

Don't want to sound cnutish but Harbhajan's out of the third test. YAY!

No Bhajji is awesome news :D

Yuvraj injured as well. We really need to stop playing the IPL and cut down on injuries.

You can choose to read it anyway you like but I've always felt that way. It's actually not like what you said anyway because the CL is a more prestigious trophy than the premier league (although what's more important is debatable). In this case the WC was the holy grail. Before, during, after I'd say the exact same thing. I'm in cricket heaven ATM and will be so for awhile. This series has very little significance in comparison. At the same time it is my country and I'm passionate about it's cricket, so it does evoke emotion of course. And I do love me some good test cricket.

You lot are like England football fans using the fact there is no winter break in the Premier League as an excuse for their pathetic performance...

I agree with that, well put. Another thing that comes into it for me is that I honestly don't believe that we are the best test side in the world so possibly losing the no.1 spot to England would not affect me anywhere near as much as losing/being knocked out of this year's World Cup in India because I really did believe we had the best side in the world.

Well done to England so far by the way, they've been brilliant and it will take a special effort from us to even have a chance of getting back into this series. I'd be more than happy with a win and a draw for us from the final two tests but it certainly seems unlikely at the moment.

I've got tickets to Day 1 at Edgbaston so I'm excited about going to that. Real shame that Yuvraj Singh is injured because he's my favourite player, I would have also liked to have seen Harbhajan make a return to form but hopefully both of them will be fit for the ODIs. I really do want Sehwag and Kohli in the side now but the main thing is that we show some fight collectively.

We were beaten fair and square but we've had Sachin/Sehwag/Gambhir/Zaheer/Bhajji/Yuvraj injured/ill at various parts of the series so we could do scrapping the bloody IPL and playing lesser cricket.

This is not an excuse.

That's been my desktop wallpaper for 4 months, probably for the next 4 years too!

Tendulkar - Getting butterflies in your stomach because you're a bottler doesn't count. He was fine to bat.

Harbajan - Shit.

Yuvraj - Wasn't even picked.

Zaheer - Same as us missing Flintoff. And if that doesn't count, then Tremlett.

Sehwag/Gambhir - You can't cope without a couple of batsmen? What happened to your strength in depth?

If anyone's had injury problems this series so far it's been England. First Tremlett went down, then Swan couldn't really bowl because of his hand, then Trott did his shoulder and couldn't bat properly. And we still thrashed you.

I could honestly care less if England became a world cup winning odi side.It really bores the shit out of me and is nothing compared to the proper game of test match cricket.Like comparing winning the league to the fa or league cup for me.

Yeah, me too. It would be like the Arsenal fans celebrating their ladies team winning the league. Who cares?

Do you see us England fans celebrating winning the Twenty20 World Cup? No, because no one cares about crap limited overs cricket.

I hope Raina fails in the warm-up tomorrow. I'd like to see Kohli at 6 at Edgbaston.

So the Indian fans are now turning to bringing up their world cup, now that they have been soundly thrashed in the first two tests.

Fantastic. Just like scousers with their imaginative '5 times' and 'history' taunts.

I would like to see Kohli bat instead of Raina too, rather see Kohli play outstandingly though because we really need performances from everyone at this point.

Where has anyone done this? Please show me where someone has taunted England fans with India's World Cup win? It would be poor if someone has to be honest. I've seen more England fans on here trying to belittle India's World Cup win for some reason.

Also, it's becoming harder to tell between the wind-up attempts and the serious posts by some of the England fans in this thread. It's a shame because there seems to be more childish bickering in this thread then decent discussion.

They are "wumming", don't know why they are trying though as no one is biting and every Indian has conceded that we have been thrashed by them fair n square.

However the post you have quoted I am not sure if that Guy is wumming or not, he is a bit special.

I don't think he is, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to tell the difference in truth. Yeah I think it's a good thing that most haven't because it would further derail the thread.

It is difficult to understand why because as you say England have been brilliant, much better than us in every respect on the pitch and off it in terms of mentality and preparation. They deserve this 2-0 lead and any Indian fan would be a fool to think otherwise.

I love how english fans are belittling the World Cup  - That is bitterness at it's best, but in this 2 test matches we did get soundly trashed, so it doesn't hurt for us indian fans to just relapse the wonderful memories a bit. Was simply stunning that night. England fans have yet to taste that feeling after all those years of Cricket.

Some of you are either incapable of reading or biased to the bone.

I can barely see any gloating from the Indian fans, if any. Saying this series is not comparable in terms of importance definitely doesn't fall into that bracket. That's how I'll feel about a lot of series' over the next few years. So don't feel too bad about it. If anything, as has been mentioned before me, it seems England fans are desperate to belittle the World Cup win. And to be fair, the Indian's here could respond with A LOT of WC gloating but are respectfully restraining for the sake of the thread. Something a few of you could take a cue from.

Yet to taste that feeling? We've won The Ashes three times in recent years. When was the last time India won the biggest prize in cricket?

They never have nor ever will.

Correct. It's like non-Europeans/Americans being jealous at not being able to compete for the biggest prize in golf, the Ryder Cup. It must be frustrating, still at least the limited overs cup is some small consolation.

Yeah saw that, bit ridiculous as that they're playing Mukund over Raina in this match, but I guess that's the way it goes for BCCI.

You mean Kohli over Mukund?

I assumed that the thinking was Kohli's in contention only if #6 opens up and they see Raina starting for sure, while Mukund might be required to open if Sehwag/Gambhir fail fitness tests.
