Could they void the PL due to the Coronavirus? | No | Resuming June 17th

I'm not sure if this has been posted, i missed it in March:

"I’ve saw and heard some again fake news that Uefa will advise leagues to finish the championships now and decide that the winners are the ones who are number one now,” Ceferin said.

"I can say this is not true"

Just saying, UEFA appear to endorse the Dutch model. Since it's increasing unlikely we'll finish this season..

He said they shouldn't really use public transport and if they could not work from home not to go to work.
Didn't he say try not to use public transport and use a car or a bike instead?
That is moronic advice for the millions of people who commute into London every day for work. Wonder if he'll pay my £40 per day parking?

Most commuters into the heart of the city are office workers who can work from home. Agreed there will be some who aren't but it's a fewer number. They should completely hold off parking restrictions, I agree there.

Football is having a hard time accepting it’s not relevant these days. Hearing these pundits listing all the ways football could return and hearing their justification of why it should return is something else.
“It would lift the spirit of a nation”. Really? I love football, but in this moment when the economy is crumbling and people dying, it’s a bunch of milionares running around over a football.

Not only is it difficult to organize games, but there’s also a risk when a team wins a league or a promotion. Liverpool and Leeds waited years for that and I’m pretty sure it would be hard for their fans to celebrate those succsesses at home alone.

Perhaps they think if they did accept it then their (self inflated) value may diminish and so will their wage!

Voiding would mean there is no relegation. Voiding means nothing counts.

No 0-9 then! Happy with that. :D

According to the Liverpool Echo the PL have reached an agreement with genetics testing company Prenetics (also known as CircleDNA) to carry out C19 testing if Project Restsrt happens.

Results expected 24 hours after test - drawn criticism from Dr. John Ashton as NHS and other key workers have to wait between 24-72 hours for their results.

No way should footballers be getting preferential tests ahead of key workers.

A lot discussions in here as usual.

What's the latest? Are players back in training? Will they able to get into decent shape before kickoff? When is the earliest projected startup?

They really haven't thought this through. They have encouraged people to use public transport and not bring cars into London, now they are encouraging people not to use public transport and use their cars and bikes.

When can we arrange the virtual celebratory open top bus tour to celebrate the dippers being dipped of the league :)

Irrelevant. You don't decide if you work from home. Your employer does and you'll find a lot of them took last night's advice and said well lads it's time to come back.

Good luck arguing with them. Government should hav been specific and said office workers can't go back unless already essential.

Sometimes I think I've stumbled onto page 1 rather than the latest page

I'm unsure. My colleagues in the industry across RBC, Natwest, Metro Bank, SMBC have all expressed caution with skeleton staff traders rotating in the office. Same goes for some major asset management firms and the big 4, where working from home was always a thing pre pandemic.

My employers just released comms that they will tread very carefully. Ultimately if they get one positive covid case they have to lock down the entire office again which will just be shooting themselves in the foot. So caution will be there.

I don’t think UEFA will be endorsing any particular scenario as a model to follow because the situation and rules in each league is different. Regarding the Premier League, in April Aleksander Ceferin offered his opinion of what he thinks may happen regarding the title:

“I see no way for Liverpool to stay untitled. If the championship resumes, they will almost certainly win it. Theoretically, it has not yet reached the guaranteed level, but it is practically close.

However, if it could not be played, it would also be necessary to announce the results in some way and find some key on how the champions should be determined. And, of course, again I do not see a scenario in which that would not be Liverpool.

I understand that fans will be disappointed if it happens in an empty stadium or even at the green table. I believe they will win the title one way or another.”

Any news? Surely it has to start at some point. Or should we just start next season without this one ending?
Other leagues are going to start again so PL need to have a plan as well.

I guess CL will not be played next season either? Thus it will give more dates to phostphone next season too and give more time to end this one

If relegation is scrapped it means the premier league is resumed to Crown Liverpool Champions.

Feck that

Government has given the green light to restarting football from June 1st. Down to clubs and PL to sort out everything now.

Under the measures, set out by Prime Minister Boris Johnson as part of his “roadmap” out of lockdown, sport will be permitted to be broadcast from behind closed doors from the start of next month at the earliest “while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contact”.

Thing is, UEFA have no business nor influence in whether champions should be prematurely crowned or not. He's just giving an opinion there.

The only thing they can influence is how European qualification is determined.

Think the biggest obstacle are the clubs. Will the PL offer to scrap relegation just to finish the league? Not sure where the integrity is in that but I can see the $$

That’s not what they’ve said.
“No professional sport, even behind closed doors, will be staged in England until 1st June at earliest”.

If PL Champions are declared of course it will be Liverpool. But deciding Champions and relegation sides is in the same boat really, what happens with one will almost certainly happen with the other. In France they declared champions and relegated teams, in Holland they decided against doing either. I don't think any league has yet declared champions while relegating no teams or vice versa. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I reckon the PL will follow suit as you can't do one without the other. So if the teams at the bottom kick up enough of a stink and vote against every proposal that could lead to them being relegated it would create a headache for the PL at the top of the league.

That’s not what they’ve said.

Christ, that’s being very pedantic.

If the PL can sort out a plan before June 1st they can start behind closed doors from that moment onwards basically.

You seem to not be big on details.
There's loads to be sorted before any chance of a re start.
And your own word "if" is huge!
Only takes a few outbreaks amongst teams and the whole thing grinds to a halt.
"If" its even back on.

And wasn't the UEFA cut-off date for submissions of plans 25th May anyway? Makes that kind of awkward to comply with...

There's a second paragraph too that is potentially interesting...

The document states that reopening venues that attract large crowds such as sports stadia "may only be fully possible significantly later depending on the reduction in numbers of infections".

You could read that in two ways, either stadia can be used without crowds, or stadia can't actually be used at all which means they'd end up playing at training grounds or something.
