Could they void the PL due to the Coronavirus? | No | Resuming June 17th

Regardless of whether or not this season is able to be completed it doesn't change the fact that next season whenever that eventually starts and whatever format it is in. It is highly likely to be disrupted by a second wave, so there are going to have to be discussions and agreements made before the season starts about what happens if the season has to be suspended again or even abandoned. To not have those discussions would be naively optimistic or irresponsible.

I agree, but my main point has always been that football should absolutely be looking to make the most of any window of opportunity that might be on offer to finish this season, as the main part to that 'window' could well be June, July, August, and September, a time at which very little club football is usually played.

This could be miles off, and things might get worse (or no better) in the next few weeks, so it can't happen, but to not be in a position to restart if things turn out better would be stupid in the extreme, more so with the second wave primed to wreak havoc on next season just as it's getting going, but again this may never happen.

'No semblance of sporting integrity'
"I, of course, absolutely accept we cannot have supporters in the stadium," Duxbury wrote in The Times. "That goes without saying in the present situation.

"However, we are now told we cannot play our remaining home games at Vicarage Road and the familiarity and advantage that brings. This against a backdrop of players who, having seen their lives turned upside down along with the rest of the world, are suddenly expected to perform as if nothing has happened, despite the rest of society probably still facing the kind of restrictions unenforceable on a football pitch.

"We have club medical staff working under conditions that no doctor or physio has ever experienced with guidelines that, in no small part, are based at this stage on supposition rather than scientific fact. And with all these compromises and health risks we are asked to finish a competition that bears no resemblance to the one we started, which could end a small club like Watford's time in the Premier League.

"So is this fair? Does it have any semblance of sporting integrity? Of course not."

And the shock horror that it's a dipper fan at it .

The cafe should have put all Liverpool supporters on furlough from this forum until the pandemic is over .
a month or so ago (seems like ages now), there was a banner post (Niall?) saying if Liverpool win the league, most LFC posters are getting binned from the Caf.

every cloud eh?

He might regret those comments

“There are comments that the integrity of the game may in some way be compromised if some teams have to play a game at a neutral venue, they played someone at home earlier in the season with a crowd and now they are being asked to play at a neutral venue with no crowd,” he said to ITV News.

“Fine, these are all in a football sense, really important.

“But in a broader context where the country has seen 30,000 and rising deaths then really some of the people making these comments need to get a grip because we have all got a responsibility to make progress for the benefit for the country, but equally to do it in a way that minimises the risk that anything we do adds to that death toll.”

One thing is for certain, if they abandon this season and award the league to Liverpool then we have to make sure we start next season, whenever that may be, perfectly and make sure we're on top throughout in case it gets abandoned again.

I don't think they can just award it to Liverpool as easily as the French league did to PSG. The rules are different from what I remember reading.

If they bent the rules, there's even less integrity there, so I'd be surprised if it happened.

One more piece that will be intresting.

”Monday's Premier League meeting will feature a vote on whether player contracts are to be extended until the end of the rescheduled season.”

You can’t extend contract how you want. Players wanting to leave clubs could sue PL and Clubs. It seems to me that PL thinks they have to much power.

Another team what opposes this so called ‘Project Restart”. Imagine my shock!

That’s now 3 team publicly opposes it and I am sure a good few more privately.

The 14 votes required just wont be available. It’s time for the Premier League to grow some balls and call it.

It’s done. Abandon now and decide table vis ppg.

So basically to summarise it's all a right old mess still.

And all that's happened is time has rolled by.

With the gov set to only slightly loosen the lockdown tomorrow and set another three weeks going, that's June.
So you either inexplicably allow football special dispensation, or that's June at earliest before they can even train properly as a group.

All we can be absolutely certain of, is that leagues one and two are done and that'll be announced this week. Only question is whether they settle on standard PPG or some nonsense with separate calcs on home and aways.

Will Wycombe do better on standard ppg or split home and away ppg? Where will you end up?

Yeah they should restart this season when its safe to do so but i think the window where they can do that is a lot shorter than you think. June/July at the latest anything beyond that and i think this season will be abandoned/voided/cancelled/curtailed etc. Rick Parry the EFL chairman said in the last few days that the season can't go beyond July 31st. I imagine the PL hold a similar view though they aren't making it public.

Ah, another resident of Tegridy Farms. I think the Watford chairman should exercise maximum Tegridy by removing Watford from the PL and giving that space to another team. Leeds will happily accept it.

He can restart with Tegridy from the lowest division.

Yep with no start date yet and nothing even close it looks likely time will run out.

He’s absolutely spot on. Not that Delusion FC supporters will, or can, accept that, though.

Scousers are now mocking people for having integrity, you couldn’t make it up.

Promoted on standard PPG, not on the split.

We've played two more homes than away. But were due to play the top two at home.

So while id obvs say PPG due to it suiting us, id have said it anyway.
Otherwise why stop at home and away split. Why not drill down into difficulty of opponent etc.
Becomes a minefield.

Small side questions to the Bundi restarting.

1. Will it be on BT Sport?

2. Does that mean the discount they gave (due to football not being on) is over?

This is Dipper Gold. Comments like this is exactly why no one can take your club and supporters seriously.

That's a massive bite. Opposition fans are going to have even more fun with the asterisk angle than they did with Gerrard slipping.

Love the way he quickly remembered all the disclaimers about importance in the circumstances.

Plus he may just be underestimating how we're progressing.

I personally don't want the season to continue, I think I've said that often enough. This virus is a bastard.

After that disclaimer I want to call out Parish, Watford, etc, out for what they're selling. It ain't integrity. It's Tegridy. I side with Leeds' integrity. Not these jokers.

This is a perfect reason as to why they need to put some rules in place for the future. Its actually surprising that there isn't anything, not necessarily in the case of a pandemic but for anything which suspends or cancels play (war etc).

They have a massive problem as it is this season, let alone getting some rules written for next year.

Once you've awarded a title without a finish, even with a 25 point or so lead, you create a precedent. At what level do you set the points lead, or games played to?
What happens if you have to finish without either criteria met?

Imagine declaring no champion next year because the lead was only 10 points and we were only 20 games in. It'd be carnage!

My worry with league 1 is that the FA will look at the table, and the 2 options and think, hmmm, one option keeps the current top 3 in place (home, away split points) and one on the face of it boosts a team in 8th to 3rd! (straight PPG)
Now this doesn't take into context the tight nature of the league and us having a game in hand, but still probably doesn't look great.

But how you suddenly invent a sub level to a new rule of PPG I do not know.

Our owner is a top lawyer, I wonder if he'll dip into that :)

I honestly can't see too many clubs kicking up a fuss about us becoming champions if the season can't be finished - whether that's based on final standing as it is, PPG or table after everyone had played 28 games to allow for the 2 games postponed because of the LC Final. Whether they use that as the precedent ie at least 28 games must be completed and the leader must be X points ahead is obviously up for discussion but they really need to be prepared for next season to avoid the carnage you describe.

Hopefully you get the result you want with Wycombe - you never know you might get that and CL for Utd.

Based on the fact that the lockdown restrictions (quite rightly) don't look like being eased much I think the PL is running out of time. I don't agree with what UEFA have done by imposing deadlines considering no-one knows where we'll be in a couple of weeks never mind August but if the PL are to adhere to them then they really needed restrictions eased. I think the PL meetings have been fairly cordial, at least from the outside, but cracks are starting to show and they'll likely get worse in the coming days.

Is he wrong in what he says though?
He's absolutely right in what he says.

How can completing the laegue at neutral venues, with different rules, be seen as the same competition as before Covid 19? It's a crazy proposition imo.

Just read it a couple times to make sure but can’t see anything remotely shocking in what he says? Of course the integrity has gone. We all know that already.

So that's three of the relegation battlers who have opposed playing the remaining matches in neutral venues:

opposeeok69.png

You'd have to imagine that at least a couple more from the bottom of the table are going to oppose; and they'll probably be joined by a handful in midtable or at the top.

Then we're done. No more Premier League 2019/20.

I hope the league gets abandoned. I'm not being biased in any way when I say that.

20-18

You think it's just them two that don't want to play?

According to this article there are more than a few players not willing to return. https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...h-doubt-50-players-snub-restart-a4436041.html

Any players that don't want to play can be furloghed, they shouldn't be foreced to play against their wishes, but they should have to accept a heavily reduced wage. They are multi millionaires, so I'm sure they will survive.

If Aston Villa refuse to play in a neutral venue then they will be relegated anyway, so it would be pretty stupid of them to do that!

As far as I know, the law overrules the PL wish list.

Clubs could agree to it but you'd still need new contracts (the legally binding document).

Would you hand on heart have the same view if you were in the relegation zone?

There's not just two possibilities.

It's not "vote our way or you're relegated Villa".

What are the other possibilities then?

Finish with the current table or finish behind closed doors are the only options I can see being discussed?

As I mentioned before the neutral venues thing works both ways. Villa were due to go to Anfield but will now play Liverpool on a neutral ground when Liverpool will probably have nothing to play for.
