Could they void the PL due to the Coronavirus? | No | Resuming June 17th

Are you trying to say that all us football fans hate football, is that the only conclusion you can come to because we don’t align our views with your own?
I’m not Dans spokesperson but that’s not what he means. It’s the sort of brewing resentment that people have against footballers due to their money and lifestyles that even massive fans of the game take exception too. That kind of seems to be the motive behind some of the comments in this thread and the default in these comments is to resort to mentions of money and selfishness even when not entirely appropriate or accurate . There are so many examples of it. The thing that I find ironic is the club we support is a part of all of this. We’re not a separate entity from the PL really.

It’s the complete opposite of that. The footballers have been for the most part excellent throughout with a few exceptions which is no surprise as they’re just a subsection of a wider society. Most people in this thread want to make sure they are not rushed back for the sake of it. People are genuinely concerned for their safety and concerned for the safety of other staff throughout clubs.

Its not the footballers that people are showing contempt for, it’s the owners and the broadcasters who are missing their wedge and want to get football back regardless of consequence.

I don’t think I was clear with my initial post, apologise, my bad. I should have clarified I meant football as a whole not just the actual footballers but yeah everyone involved. And Yeah there’s mostly contempt for the PL/owners/broadcasters etc and people are within their rights to hold those opinions but they do have to show consistency (which they don’t and that’s why it looks like it’s a grudge against football itself) .
But even if we’re specifically talking about footballers there’s been a few stuff along the lines of “footballers using up Nhs tests” “People are dying yet footballers get to play” “They earn x amount of money who cares if they’re bored at home”.
About the safety and stuff I really don’t know how much safer their working conditions can get. If people are not infected they cannot spread it, people being close to each other from corners and high fiving won’t then matter. The whole point of this PL exercise is to make it as safe as possible for the players and staff so I’m not sure why there is deep concern for their health.

I have couple of question to those who still want this PL season to be played. If we don't talk about moral point of view or death/survival/risk in general here are some questions.

What do you do with The FA cup?
Doesn't matter as Liverpool aren't in it.
What do you do with Champions League/Europa League?
See answer above.
What do you do with Championship, League One and levels under?
See answer above.
What do you do with contracts that expire in 1 month time?
What do you do with transfers? Do already agreed players get to play?
What do you do with sponsorship? For example there are some changes by clubs a certain date. From one manufactor to another.
How do you actually apply social distancing (if the rule is still there) in games? No touching? Corners? Walls?
How is it okey to play on neutral ground and take away home advantage?
When is it okey to get people inside stadium? And how many?
When does the time expire to finish this season if you don't want to ruin next season aswell?
Doesn't matter as long as Liverpool get their title.
There are tons and tons of questions that have to be answered. As I said, the best thing is to cancel the season. Give Liverpool title. Move on and start planing for future.
Or just do that. Much simpler.

Would be absolutely scandalous to play without threat of relegation,
If teams can't get relegated then we can't have champions.
This is fast becoming a farce beyond comprehension.

After the three positive tests at Cologne, tests at 14 other Bundesliga teams have come back negative. The remaining three teams (Leipzig, Gladbach, Augsburg) are not publishing results before the second test next week.

The idiocy of it is already pretty clear, and means any lower half of the table teams are effectively "on the beach" with 3/4 of the season to go.
Nothing to play for, and their managers might even fool around selecting kids for the experience.

It certainly makes it a right bloody farce.

We’re essentially going to be playing friendly games just to crown Liverpool champions.

Couldn't of said it better myself, how can people not see this ?

It became a bit more sinister I feel when Alabaster Codify (has he been banned now?) started linking people's opinions to them having mental health issues and it's rumbled on from there.

@Dancfc you're getting sucked in a bit here yourself. I said to you yesterday take a minute. I appreciate you're frustrated about being bracketed as though you don't care about public health but saying people here secretly hate football and don't want it back (or words to that effect) is pretty bizarre.

Yes he has. Kept ignoring warnings about the style and content of his posting and finally had a visitation from the ban stick yesterday.

Fair enough, he was getting a bit too much although you have to worry about his own mindset now he has no Caf to vent on. Is he a perma or will we see him back asking for the head of Ole on a platter again soon?

Read this today:

Does really sound bizarre. This virus is still so unknown but they seem to be giving their opinions absolute benefit of the doubt. I mean, the opinion that physio is not a close contact for every player in the club. How exactly? Isn't it enough to have minimal contact with the virus to get infected?

And what if Verstraete gets the virus from teammates, passes it on to his girlfriend who than struggles to survive or dies? Will he play ever again, will the decision makers be criminally responsible?

Hopefully, none of this happens. But these are the questions that have to be answered before the football kicks off. There has to be responsibility with those making decisions, because calling the shots is easy if you know you are not going to be in trouble, no matter what the outcome is.

Permanent and it wasn't just for this thread.

Lately you miss the point. PL cannot be compared to supermarkets or MDs. They’re trying to get the public to accept they should have a separate set of rules than everyone else. That doesn’t sit well. It sits even less well when they’re role models, who supposedly people look to as an example. Giving away 1000 tickets is pathetic when they’re looking to be treated differently. What’s more, they’re wanting to be treated differently to save 1.3b or 60m per club.. that is largely made up of players wages. (edited to add: United 2019 rev 602m salaries 332m; Sainsburys Rev 29000,salaries 3100 (Yes, i know about limitations of comparison)) The business model for football means they're playing to pay themselves, others work for the supply chain. Animals are being slaughtered and food going to waste because it cant get into the supply chain to feed people. There are predictions of food shortages.

This isn’t a grudge it’s greed and privilege, while 100 plus medics die with lesser ppe, lesser testing and 60k for dying..

It’s about morals..

Exactly!
..........and it's been like that since the season stopped.
Poor chaps, they haven't won it since 1990 so we've got to gift it to them in any way possible and get them over the finishing line!
Ridiculous!

Cheers Wib. I appreciate you don't have to tell me. I did see his awful posts in the CE forum too. Anyway, hope you and the fam are well!

All great in Sydney. The offspring is still at Uni in the States which is a bit scary. We also hate seeing how badly the UK and Ireland is doing.

As someone who holds a ST to Watford, i would fully understand if the club were backing no relegation if the games were to be played. Would be completely unfair if our remaining fixtures were played at a neutral venue, denying the huge psychological advantage playing at home gives you when we need every ounce of it to avoid relegation this season. Other teams got to play their games at home against opponents we have yet to play, its not a level playing field. We shouldn’t even be contemplating bringing football back yet putting lives at risk unnecessarily.

The games being played would benefit the top teams only in being able to designate which top teams get the european spaces. Bring Leeds and West Brom up this year, give every Premier League team the opportunity to skip the League cup for a season to help these teams fulfill these added fixtures, take away relegation from the lower leagues but the top two of each still go through which would maintain league numbers.

Which blatantly means they came back positive and want to confirm before announcing it.

The German government was pulling back slightly on their 'Bundesliga will return ASAP' line even before the Cologne news.

It feels like the fact that Liverpool haven’t won a title in absolutely ages is affecting the decision making. I reckon if it was City looking to win it again, there would be far less clamour for crowning then champions.

1. So Liverpool can win their title
2. TV money
Cant argue with 1., but is there any evidence of the TV companies really contemplating sueIng the PL/clubs for a return of part of the 19/20 money?

If I were the latter I’d threaten to set up an in-house competitor in response.

Great point. They can't let sentiment affect the decision. It should be fair for the most amount of people with the minimum amount of disruption.

That is a possible response for sure. I don't think the TV companies will want to sue the same clubs they want to show on their channels, it doesn't make sense for a long term working relationship.

I can understand the stance from teams in a relegation battle and can see them arguing for no relation - it’s all about self preservation.

but if you don’t have relegation, and you are playing 1/4 of the season, then there is zero validity to any of the games that are being played. You have half the league who have nothing to play for, but their results affecting others in the table - this is far more absurd than playing the season out at neutral venues.

if you don’t have relegation, then you can’t have promotion, and you can’t have champions - that’s 100% logical.

ultimately that will get what the teams in the bottom 6, all that matters is survival - and again. I thing wrong with that, but if the rest of the league agree to no relegation to play games then these will be the most pointless fixtures in the history of the game.

pointless/ worthless and of zero value.

It’s absolutely absurd how the footballing fraternity at large tip-toes around these insufferable wankers for fear of offending them.

I think it attend from Hillsborough and the outcry from the injustices there.

The media, quite rightly, are sensitive to what happened but the media need to be looking at this for what it is, object

This. How can you have half the games being damp squibs and affecting what happens at the top?

100% this - it will be a complete joke to play on without relegation - what is the point when 80% of the matches will have no meaning whatsoever?

This is the last post I'm going to make on this until a footy return is announced whenever that may be (unless another poster gets shamed like I am, especially by the hypocrite that wants a nine figure transfer to happen asap).

The reason why I said there's an internal hatred is because of the shamming of people who want football back it's not happening with any other genre/hobby. For example I have viewed a couple of Rugby forums (which is a lot more "risky" than football given the contact) and some want the return soonish a lot more than others but one thing that was a constant throughout was the respect of not only eachother but the game, if someone disagreed they would certainly quote them and explain why they think they're wrong but that's as far as it goes, no shaming just a simple respectful back and forth on the logistics.

I apologize to anyone you and anyone else caught in the crossfire but I don't apologize for defending myself and others against quite frankly ludicrous insuations, like I said I'll stop posting on this thread unless I'm either attacked again from this moment forward or someone else is in a similar way.
Everyone here wants football back and getting to our normal lives, it's just not worth it when the consequence is more death and suffering then need be. There are other "hobbies" in my area, like some people (starting with priests) petitioning for the opening of churches, something that is received with a lot of "shaming" as you put it, and for good reason. Health is much more important then these things and sacrifices need to be made for the general good.

If the remaining games are played BCD and relegation is removed it will be a disaster for football. The games will be no better than a pre season friendly and very few will be interested in watching Brighton v Watford (just picked 2 random teams) in those circumstance.

I'm not sure the players will be happy going out and playing, putting themselves at risk, if there's no crowd and no meaning to the game. Might aswell just play all the Liverpool and City games and everybody else stays at home. The PFA should put an end to this idea fairly quickly.

I expect football season to resume at some point but no relegation would be silly. I don't think behind closed doors at home and a neutral venue BCD are that much different, much of the advantage is lost without the crowd, a minor advantage in familiar surroundings maybe.

I wonder if some neutral venues and grouping players is a good idea anyway, might be best to just stage the games BCD at all the stadiums. We see with prisons, meat packing factories, cruise ships that closed groups could lead to more getting infected and sounds a bit strange for the mental side for players, they're not robots.

I don't think that's the argument... It's that having your home crowd support you in the most critical games. Ie Brighton run in is now much harder with no home fans - compared with their relegation rivals.

From city's point of view we played LFC at Anfield with their crowd - its not now fair that LFC play city without city fans.

These things will be argued by the individual clubs, I just don't see an end to this season.

I’ve never really thought playing at the Emptihad was much of an advantage.
