Could they void the PL due to the Coronavirus? | No | Resuming June 17th

You must be the only Liverpool fan in the world saying this.
The general tone has changed somewhat though, the longer it drags on. Not necessarily "not be awarded", I still want us to be awarded the title just because - but even if we will, it will just be "yay, we did it" and move on to the next day. If we don't, it'll be "oh well, so be it" and move on to the next day. All the excitement and happiness surrounding a title win wouldn't be present anyway, so the glamour is undeniably gone and won't return whichever way they decide to cancel/finish the season.

Is it likely any other sports will be restarting ? Cricket, tennis, snooker, darts, rugby or motorsports or is it only football that is set for BCD?

I don't know about all of them, but most have got at best hopeful future dates a few months down the line, no more.

The German chancellor Angela Merkel’s chief of staff said on Thursday that social distancing measures in Europe’s largest economy would “certainly” be extended until 10 May for the time being.

How do they plan to restart by May 9th, as they'd said last week, if social distancing will be extended? No contact football? Wenger must be delighted!

Without any doubt it has been a ludicrously ridiculous bit of timing for your club.
Worse things are happening of course but you truly couldn't make it up.

Doubt anyone will be taking a vacation abroad anytime soon without going through quarantine both ends of the trip.

Unless they want to go to Blackpool of course!

They've got enough money, why take the risk to your health to be rushed back playing too soon, getting sick and potentially ruining their career if lungs effected or worst case scenario ending in the morgue! I think it's perfectly understandable, they're not slaves and perfectly entitled to say they don't want to play in current conditions.
Yeah, for sure everyone is free to measure their own risk and if they don’t want to integrate back into society, don’t think anybody could and should be able to tell them otherwise. However, these current conditions you speak of are going to be the conditions for the foreseeable future and that is something that people need to start accepting.

It’s quite interesting to see what’s going to happen. Let’s get away from football for a minute, although this applies to it also.
You’re gonna get lots of other non essential organisations opening up, ones where you obviously can’t work from home. Whilst I suspect the large majority will want to return you will get some who don’t and If you’re deemed as young, fit and healthy and the government and your workplace have authorised the opening of whatever sector you’re in and you still feel it’s too much risk and don’t want to return to work, what then happens?
Will these people still be employed? Still be paid? Will they remain on furlough? Will that even be an option?

And this will extend to football, what happens to those players (it’ll be a small minority) who don’t want to go back to playing even after the green light has been given? Do they retire? Do they wait till a vaccine? Actually makes my head hurt thinking about all the scenarios and ramifications.

Football won't be able to win whatever it does, it's an easy target. Other sports, TV productions etc won't even get half the scrutiny when they return.

One thing that has become very clear during this pandemic is just how big the internalised hatred of football is, I knew people outside the game had a low opinion of it but I never realized just how many actual football fans secretly/subconsciously felt the same.

I don’t get this easy target excuse. Football has been a self absorbed greed machine for 20+ years.

Unfortunately its because there are so many parties involved - and the vast majority are purely looking out for their own interests and have no concept of the bigger picture.

Liverpool and spurs tone deaf behaviour over furloughing staff is one of many examples that have a negative effect on the whole game.

idiots like Kean and Walker have a negative effect on the game - it promulgated the notion that we are not all in this together. Normal people are, but if you are a footballer or Jose then you can do whatever you like.

I don't think we should be awarded it if it's halted where it's at now. It's not mathematically done so wouldn't be an actual title 'win'.
Finally some sense.

Everyone wants the season finished, but if its halted liverpool shouldnt get the title, teams shouldnt get relegated etc

I think that is the only way forward - it's a real shame for Liverpool fans and Leeds, etc. but let's be honest none of this really matters right now.

Compare the general reaction to football returning to the reaction when rugby, tv production returns and then you'll know what I mean. The former will likely cause outrage while the latter two will likely be well received even though the risk would probably be higher (rugby because of the scrums and TV production due to make up, internal filming etc).

Even on here, if you want football back even when you make it clear only when logistically possible (regarding safety, use of emergency services available etc) you have a que of the usual suspects ready to sham you, that Ronaldo's mum poster was practically bullied off the site.

None of us would risk our life working outside at these hour if not because we need the money.

Ask yourself this. If you're safe and sound with a few million on your bank account and a posh house. Would you want to start working and risk getting corona?

Twelve points clear with a game in hand, plus a gazillion better goal difference than Marseille in second place...

Hard to argue with that but, in saying that, it’s also a bit hollow being crowned champions of a league that’s only 3/4 way completed. It’s all a bit ‘meh’.

It's like st Paul seeing the light and falling off his horse!

There was no way they were never going to crown PSG winners. For all the supposed precedents that people on here bang on about, there's also a sense of fair sportmanship that the team that was, in all conceivable likelhood, going to win the league should be recognised for their efforts.

If it happens with Liverpool, it takes a bit of shine off it, but the monkey's off our backs and we can crack on with winning number 20 with even more motivation to not let standards slip.

The difference being that at work people will still get to social distance if done correctly, or there are other ways of reducing risk. Footballers will not have those options.

Perhaps significant in France that all teams had played the same number of games that were in qualification / relegation positions.

Bad news for anyone believing Liverpool won't be given the title this season.
I don't think it will have much bearing on any decision the PL takes tbh. Belgium will do it differently than the Netherlands, who did it differently than France, who will do it differently compared to Germany and England where they're still banging on about a restart. Regardless of the decision in France, the PL can decide whatever they like.

Complete and utter bollocks. I don't care about probability when it comes to sports. You've either won it or you haven't. Leiceister's odds of winning the PL was 5000 to 1 or something. I reckon if you took a time machine back to 2014 and asked people what they think is more likely between Leicester winning and Liverpool fecking up a massive lead, most people would bet on the latter.

Also, as people have said a million times, this is not just about the 1st place. Relegation is arguably a way more important discussion.

I now think you are probably right.

My guess previously was that everyone would roughly fall in line, it seems not.

I guess now (Liverpool will almost certainly be awarded the league) we're going to find out who actually wanted a void for moral reasons.

At least they are seeing it all through with relegation. That consistency is a must if champions are crowned so im ok with that.

But how does that work here when villa have a game in hand and are currently in the relegation spots?

interesting that Liverpool fans claim you can’t take presidents when it doesn’t support their mantra of “Liverpool must win the league”, as soon as there’s, something g that supports you view - you are all over it.

It’s called confirmation bias.

the french league decision has little bearing on what the PL will do - it’s clear the leagues can make their own decisions.

I think it's impossible that they don't get awarded it, it's just set in stone for me. I've resigned myself to it a while back.

I didn’t open up the picture to see they are relegating teams, can’t see that happening in the PL, which means it’s not likely to have “Champions” for a team that didn’t win it.

I literally posted "this decision has little bearing on what the PL will do" a few posts above yours

Good luck trying to take any "presidents" by the way.

happy for you to pick me up on typos when posting from a phone.

I wasn’t replying to you though was I? Look at the post I was replying to.

Agreed.

Yes as a Man Utd fan I don't want Liverpool to win the title but to be frank, right now, with people dying, angry Liverpool fans are the last thing that should be considered when it comes to the football question.

Even if they were awarded the title it would be tainted anyway. Better to just feck it all off and go again in August (if, and a BIG if, the situation even allows it then).

@Brightonian did a post a few pages back where he broke down basically every situation where social distancing breakage or contamination would happen in his book shop. It is impossible to effectively socially distance if you leave your house for work.

If you’re an employee who doesn’t want to take the risk of going back out and working you only need one ‘what if’ scenario and your personal safety is compromised.

I think it’s interesting that Liverpool were hailed at the darlings of the media, presumably because they are a sleeping giant, but having ever won the PL - but whatever happens the disdain the club had shown for the rest of the league, tone deaf commentary from every ex Liverpool player and manager and trying to furlough staff will forever show everyone what the club to really about. there are clubs that have shown a lot of dignity and leadership through this crisis, Liverpool are certainly not one of them.

Then if they are gifted a league title that they didn’t even win, when everyone else is focused on what really matters - you are right, it will always be tainted, and quite frankly no one outside their club will even count it.
