Coronation thread

Had to double check the bank balance today before even thinking about buying an extra bottle of milk, because the car needed some more fuel than usual and the gas bill was higher this month that I expected. But, sure, let's all watch a billionaire sit in the back of a golden carriage whilst the entire thing is paid for with my tax contributions from a job that hasn't had an inflation matching pay increase since 2007.

I just want Qatar to take over the UK and make us into a force again

they’ve been putting in lots of offers to try and get it off the russians. fair bit of saudi completion too.

I listened to a couple of podcasts on the Guardian explaining how rich the royals are and how they benefit in ways they shouldn't. Their pay cannot go down and they accept gifts which go to their private collections and coffers despite rules stating that those gifts should become public property.

Why do Brits bother with the monarchy? I mean, i know the answer, but it all just seems so outdated and obscene.

Silence and wave your flag, prole!

I feel cheated that I'm unemployed during this time of extra bank holidays. I just can't appreciate it in the same way

* The bank holidays, I mean. Couldn't give a shite about the coronation. I've hot footed it to a remote part of Scotland

Blah blah a lot for charity blah blah tourism blah blah not having Jeremy Corbyn as president

I have a 30 year old colleague at work that is English and is taking a holiday overseas this week. I overhead genuine despair in her voice talking to another colleague that shes struggling to plan how she can fit the Coronation TV coverage into her holiday.

You lot are still weird even when you come over here as young kids and basically are Australian. I thought it was the boomers that clung on to this so zealously.
We went to the Amalfi coast on holiday when William and Kate got married, which was a bonus, we thought, but when we went in a cafe there it was playing on a TV.

days like the coronation aren’t for the unemployed. they royals only care for the loyal, tax paying folk, whom foot the bill for their lives of excess. they despise poor people, claiming benefits off the state that they think are rightly theirs. i’m not sure they’d even appreciate the fact you’re aware of the coronation in the first place.

When in doubt ask....what would @rimaldo do?

just pause the tv when they show andrew with the corgis.

If the monarchy is so popular, surely there's no harm in having an elected head of state because we'll all dutifully elect Charles, and then William etc.

The guy is already King ffs, there's absolutely no reason for this farce other than because it's ceremonial and a "spectacle". If that's your thing then you fecking pay for it and spend my tax contributions on something that will actually make a difference to people.

The fact that money is being pissed down the drain on this when millions in the country live in poverty is absolutely disgusting.

No coronation = No days holiday......... Long live the king !!

Actually, not long live the king. More Monarchs = More public holidays...... Keep them coming !

These days you get thrown in jail if you undermine a coronation.

I'm pretty sure the UK is the only European monarchy which still has a coronation. We abolished it in 1908 because it was viewed as old-fashioned.

Who needs monarchs for public holidays?
Here the public holidays this month are 1st, 8th, 18th & 29th. Plus the 19th because it's a Friday after the 18th.

Getting a lot of mixed messages with this. So government ministers were saying yesterday that protests are ok, now we're being told protests aren't ok.

We're paying for the entire thing, this isn't a private event. Well, it actually is but it really shouldn't be considering WE'RE FECKING PAYING FOR IT.

Yeah, but we're morons over here.

We get similar but then we get an extra day for a coronation, and we got one for the queens funeral..... So yea, keep the monarchs coming.

Goose-stepping over any dissent against an unelected commander-in-chief leading a military parade through London to have himself anointed as ruler for life. Sounds like something a liberal democracy should be doing.

Look, they are just like everyone else! Apparently on the way to visit one of those pubs the commoners frequent. Nice little urban safari for them.

if you’ve been on the elizabeth line and like being pegged, you’re basically third in line to the throne.

Probably going to to soho to pick up a underage Asian sex worker to keep Andrew busy during the coronation celebrations

We should take back the north when the coast is clear. The unionists will be too busy at the bootlicking session

They're losing the PR war and they know it. By "they" I mean Tories and the Royals because, let's face it, they're the same folk.

I'm playing AC Syndicate and there's a mission just like that, a rich lady wants to go to a poor neighborhood to see how the plebs live and you have to play bodyguard.
