Coronation thread

I read somewhere that £100m is just for security. Actual total cost closer to £250m.
I'd only read the £100m, if as you say the Govt. are quoting £250m then guess what? It is going to be a whole lot more!

You really need to find a way to get rid of these horrible people.

From the Mail:

In Westminster, House of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle has brought down his cat and parrot from his Lancashire home.

Attlee, the cat, has carried out a mouse check ahead of the royal reception in Westminster on Tuesday, while Boris, the parrot, has been 'shouting quite loudly'.

'We've been trying to get him to sing God Save The King,' Sir Lindsay revealed.

'He's been listening very carefully. Attlee has been going round to check there aren't any mice around and there were absolutely none.'

Animal-loving Sir Lindsay has a number of pets, including Maggie, the tortoise - who is 'not for turning' - and a dog, Betty, named after his late predecessor Baroness Betty Boothroyd.

The hard work is likely to pay off, the Speaker suggested, adding: 'They may be getting coronation strawberries.'

And totally not cult like. The least cult like thing ever, actually.
Nothing cult like about it whatsoever mate..

"Mr Loughrey, who lives in south London, earned a reputation as Princess Diana's number one fan after quitting his job working in a kitchen so he could attend every court session of the inquest into her death in 2008.

He spent days on a bench outside the hospital where Prince George was born in 2013 and did it again for Princess Charlotte in 2015 and Prince Louis in 2018.

And after the death of the Queen he tried to camp for the full 10 day mourning period outside Buckingham Palace."

Some people might read this and laugh at this brave man. But what they don't know is that for everything he gives to this family, he gets absolutely nothing in return.

When the Government says that this Coronation will cost us (the tax payer) £100m you can almost bet that it will be nearly double. It's not Our Coronation, it's his, let him pay for it, he's got at least £1.5bn in the Bank Accounts we know about, he's got a car collection worth a minimum of £8m, Jewellery upwards of £80m and on and on. His Mother died and her belongings became his belongings in entirety, he has not and will not pay a penny in Death taxes unlike the rest of us when we go or inherit from our relatives.

While his Mother lived he was given £20m a year, just for being Number 1 Prince. Philanderer Prince Number 2 got £200k and couldn't 'live' on that. And it goes on and on. We Pay, through the nose for a very expensive Tourist Attraction that keeps taking. He's not my King just for being born.

Not too come across as Royalist, something I certainly am not, but I never got the “Not my King” statement

If you reside in this Country and pay your taxes, one thing is certain and that is that you have a King or Queen or both. You don’t have to like it, but it’s factual. Wether You disagree with someone being born into these positions or not, it’s traditionally how our Monarchy has been elected over centuries (born into it) scandals aside.

What’s more scandalous is our Government spending £9 Billion of tax payers money on PPE equipment during Covid which was not fit for use and therefore destroyed…….£9 billion!!!!

Spending £100-£200 million of our money on a Coronation that will probably generate more back from tourism just on this one occasion alone is no problem imo

also you may not like the Monarch, but 10’s of million in this country do and will enjoy the occasion

Destroying £9 billion worth of PPE benefited how many people? 0 would be the answer, apart from the Tory Kronies who profited of course, my point simply being the bigger picture is, many millions will enjoy this expenditure (the occasion) for the coronation.

They might not be as popular these days, but still mostly popular pal

All that being said, as much as what I don’t mind the Monarch, it is quite clearly a massively dated concept, no one should be bowing to anyone!. But it pays for itself generally

Number One - quick answer is that I am resident in Italy. I pay taxes in both countries, I pay PAYE taxes on 35 employees in the UK, doesn't mean I have any bigger word or influence than anyone else but I do my bit to have an opinion.

I'm a socialist who doesn't believe the UK needs a House of Lords or nobility or a Royal Family that isn't subject to the same standards as anyone else, and I won't pay allegiance to anyone based on their birth - it's ridiculous.

You should read the book review in The Guardian on Anthony Seldon's Biography of Boris Johnson, I expect it will be right up your street. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/apr/30/anthony-seldon-boris-johnson-at-10-biography-interview

i take it everyone here, regardless of nationality, is going to do “clap for charles” at 6pm every thursday? it’s like “clap for heroes” but for someone that actually matters to modern society.

Just as I thought, another loaded 'socialist'.

‘employees’ is such a grandiose term for ‘rent boys’.

I mean, I would love to not have to work so I could do some crazy useless shit. I envy this guy.

Quite the issue - a Royalist wanting to pick and choose which royals they are Royalist for!

You can laugh all you want but if you were really a socialist you wouldn't have done well enough in your life to have a business and two masters degrees. You would be living in a bedsit collecting all the fag ends from a vimto tin to make another roll up.

I became a kept man to get away from all of that. I wasn't too proud to sell my body. 56new pence bought 20 Benson & Hedges in the 70s!

Not really, once upon a time you could swear allegiance to rival claims. It's a fairly modern invention in the grand scheme of things that there's a strictly unopposed succession. They've got lazy.

At most you can argue we're enforced subjects but that's not allegiance. We really should have a democratic mechanism that addresses it should be possible to overthrow a royal.

The costs for this are ridiculous. They could have done everyone and themselves a favour by having a low key event to reflect the current situation but it's turned into a fecking joke as always with these things. The Daily Mail are having an orgy every day about it.
