Conte | Spurs Manager

There are no long term managers, just the successful ones. Or to say it differently, nobody can be long term, unless they are successful. And that's where the building process should start from.

Not single one of Conte's jobs ended in tears, as people relentlessly claim in this topic week in, week out. No, he didn't shit the house at Juventus, nor has he downgraded them. He set a perfect foundation for Allegri to work in, after taking over terrible Juventus side before. Calciopoli was in 2006 and Juventus was back in Serie A in 2007, but by the time Conte took over nobody took them seriously anymore. And then he set records with them and made unprecedented dominance.

Chelsea also didn't burn down after he left, and he left on high.

How exactly is Conte to blame for Inter too? He took them to second, then won them the league and left because he wanted guarantees that Inter will keep improving, eyeing to one day win the Champions League. Nobody gave him guarantees, so he left. In fact, he didn't stab anyone in the back (apart from Juventus fans obviously, by taking over Inter), he resigned before Inter even started planning for new season. So it was a very fair move by him. And Inter haven't crashed and burned after him, they are still number one candidates for Scudetto.

This long term thing is silly, wherever Conte has been, he's left things in far better state than they were before him.

well said bro. how many of the top clubs have long terms managers (10 years and above) ?

Real Madrid and Chelsea winning many trophies despite changing managers like changing underwear.

Another reason I like and respect Conte. He does not downplay his desire to get to the top four.

"The Champions League is a competition that every club, every player, every manager wants to play and for this reason it's important to have this great goal,” said Spurs manager Conte.
"[It] changes your life if next season you are going to play in the Champions League, instead of playing UEFA [Europa] League, [Europa] Conference League or nothing.

"This situation has to give us a great push, a great desire to finish the season in the best possible way.
"The team is ready to fight until the end in this race. This race is not easy. It's very, very important to finish in the top four in England because it means that you have reached a great result for the club.
"Yesterday and two days ago we watched how important it is to play in the Champions League and how fascinating these type of games [are]. I'm sure that in my players there is a great desire to be protagonists in this competition.
"But we know very well that there are other teams that are really strong - Arsenal, [Manchester] United, West Ham, Wolverhampton - that they are in the same race with us, but we want to fight until the end and we'll see what happens at the end of the season."

The longest serving manager in this league is about to go down.

That said long term manager is the best route if you can find one (as City/Liverpool unfortunately seem to have and hopefully we have aswell) but I never really understood being such an obsession that managers should get time for the sake of it, you guys standing by Ole for ny on three years was mind blowing.

Potter took the game to him in his own back yard and deservedly won. Conte's tactics were so predictable, set-up in a low/mid block, use wingbacks to stretch play and hit long verticals, which the Brighton back line ate up for the most part.

The views on this thread flip-flop more times than a see saw.

Credit to Brighton, like Southampton a few weeks ago they just nullified any threat Spurs had in wide areas.

Kulusevski could've easily been sent off in the first half.

I'm thinking both Son and Kane would have made that transition under any semi-competent manager.

Most likely yes. However, would Kane have been given that chance from the youth ranks and average loan spells at one of the other top clubs though? He made his Spurs PL debut in Sherwoods final game in charge.

There were calls to sign another striker (Berahino was a player they looked at) but Pochettino instead showed a lot of faith in 20 year old Kane by making him the main forward and dropping Adebayor, hastening his departure from the club. Pochettino signed Son after being a huge admirer of him. Son wasn't linked to any PL giants while at Leverkusen.

The giddy Conte supporters will go sit quietly in the corner today and then be back when spurs spank a Norwich and be saying how we should have made him manager!

They will probably still get 4th, will i give Conte that much praise over it? Not really, as the teams around them has been bottling opportunities left and right, they would just be the least bad out of the bunch.

Is it time to make another thread moaning that we should have got Conte he world class

First Julian Nagelsmann sucks because he got knocked out by a well drilled Villareal side. Then Xavi is a fraud because his Barca side who are in the middle of a rebuild and who have done well under him lost to a good quality Eintracht Frankfurt. Now Antonio Conte who ended Juve's 10 year stranglehold on Italian football is overrated because he lost a game to a Brighton side who have been praised a great deal this season, and who have a good coach.

I think I am going to avoid these manager threads from now on. I dread to think of what will be said about Erik Ten Hag the moment we have our first setback.

Solid post, but no Frankfurt are 9th in BL for a reason

No, thats not what i'm saying, weren't you listening?

With the rate that everyone keeps messing up, i won't really give tons of praise to any of the teams that participates to take 4th.
What, you want me to praise Conte and Spurs, when they have Kane or Son upfront, if they take 4th, with mid-high 60-points(not a high bar for a 4th place)? Arsenal who hasn't had to focus on anything else for a while? United, with all the names they have, the potential they have in theory?

If Spurs takes 4th(as looks likely), Conte did the minimum, fine, but i would not view it as something impressive.

I think it’s fairly well known that if Conte gets 4th with Spurs we should have appointed him but if he doesn’t he’s a fraud and we dodged a bullet. It’s important to change your opinion on managers after every single game, only then can you say you were right at some point.

You forgot one of the most hated manager on this forum

A lot of it is tongue in cheek. The same way people take the piss out of Pool or Arsenal when they lose a game.

They are all shiiit.

The way Spurs play and move the ball around is night and day compared to our slugfest.
I agree. We missed a trick again by sidestepping a manager who will properly shake things up. And i also stand in solidarity with your concerns about locked threads, which itself was ludicrously locked, otherwise i would comment there.
Seems any thread discussing Ten Hag gets chopped now.
There are many threads with a dafter ethos than yours on Redcafe that remain untouched. There is plenty of stuff here i dont agree with and say so, but that is the nature of debate.
Shutting debate down without a fair reason smacks of what is going on in Russia.

Is La Parisian reliable? I only added it because it has a source and tagged both clubs.

Correct.
Similarly I have my posts already written for whichever of Pep/Klopp loses the league:
‘Pep Guardiola is my idol’ & ‘Eye surgery fraud’

Strange rumor. His character and management style is very ill fit to PSG culture in theory.

He is also an odd choice for a club single-mindedly focused on winning the CL given his history in that competition.

What? Conte fecking loves money. Everywhere he's gone he's demanded the owners replace the whole team and buy him whoever he needs to win titles. PSG is the perfect fit for him.

I can't see Conte leaving Spurs unless Levy doesn't deliver what he promised. 4th place or not Conte is doing an excellent job with Spurs.

I am afraid you do not really know him and what winning deeply means to him: he does not give a feck about 4th place trophy and now that United hired Ten Hag, there is no reason to showcase his skills at a lower club anymore.

I don't know him that is correct, I only assume when he accepted the Spurs job he knows the challenge he is going to take on. To me personally Pochettino took Spurs to the final of CL is as good as it gets for his coaching ability given Spurs resources. it is the same even if Klopp and Conte don't win the EPL they are still top coaches.

Yeah, of course I can agree wholeheartedly with your take. Point is, the man is who he is because he is obsessed with winning, he even gave his daughter the name Vittoria aka victory . He is the quintessential juve man, born and bred in that mould with Boniperti and Trapattoni first, then with Moggi and Lippi… all the baddies, if you like.
