Conte | Spurs Manager

Because Sarr is representative of Chelsea’s squad level and Kane is representative of Spurs squad level.
That was just the most extreme example but we had pretty much a B team out that night (a lot worse than the 17/18 side Conte constantly complained about) and he threw the towel in before kick off.

Even Jose would have looked at Kepa in goal, Sarr at the back, Saul in midfield and smelt blood. Conte didn't even lay a glove on us.

Fully motivated he's fantastic but when he gets into "we're shit and everyone else is amazing mode" he's unbearable.

He would have been issued some form of promises that he will get a lot of what he wants.

This is a guy who walked out on the club he played most of his career for where he had a guaranteed title every season because in his eyes he wasn't getting enough. He will want to be backed to the tune of a title bid at the absolute minimum.

Point is, he literally has nowhere else to go at this stage of his career, with so many illustrious bust-ups in his resume… United apart, no giant club really needs the fundamentals he brings to the table, these days… and United simply do not want him  which is a footballing tragedy, if you really think about it: instead of both going back to straight, immediate title contention, neither will win anything relevant in the next two or three years or even more.

Spurs actually have a really good run of fixtures and I fancy them to get top 4. Pretty impressive for Conte to get them there if he does, considering the mess they were in.

Serves us right for not hiring him. We are an absolute joke of a club

I actually shared the club's apprehension towards him. Conte is an elite coach but not one for building long term, sustainable success. He'll work some miracles with Spurs and then ceremoniously feck off soon enough once he inevitably falls out with Levy.

He walks when he does not get backed. I would take that over someone who is happy to stay for the money even if they are being undermined by the board

I think this concept is fickle when applying for Conte. He left Juventus in absolute dominating position in Serie A. That's heaven and earth comparing to where they were when he took over. His Chelsea, and Inter were not that bad post his departure.

He maybe short term manager, which fan may not warm up because of potential "betrayal"; but he does his job. It's up to the club to see whether they need him to endure the drama around him.

I knew Conte would eventually show us up. We’d easily be top 4 with him as our manager.

Yeah but that’s just more papering over cracks. The reset button needs to be pushed and I don’t think Conte is the man to be in charge of that process.

Long term managers are great when you stumble across one like United did and City and Liverpool have but trying to force it by giving an unsuitable manager time (as we've just seen with United) is a lot more damaging than the managerial merry go round.

Can't disagree with any of that.

Preach to our fans.

And who is it then? Erik ten Hag ? And what exactly going to happen if he fail, and we give him like 3 season, and he won nothing in them ? Another reset button and such a good circle, we are already in awhile.

Conte doesn't have much options and i think his goal is to actually find club where he can stay for quite some time.

The burst with Juventus comes from their boss, and his CL desire. The burst with Chelsea come with their director Marina Granovskaia, and that the club has totally different vision for the players they buy and so. There was a battle between the 2, and obviously that screw their season or so. But he still won them FA Cup in his second season + the title in the first one.
I didn't hear him complain for anything while he was at Inter. But as far i understand, they were having an agreement for X seasons to build a strong side, and challenge for CL. Yet they decide to pull the plug, sold the players he made top quality, and on top of that they wanted Conte to lower his salary in order to reduce the cost, when something completely different was promised.

And all of this after he won them the title, they hadn't won for 10 years. Chelsea ain't a bar when it comes to coach, they sack anyone with and without a reason, and there is always a burst in there. Juventus boss is quite a characteristic as well. With Inter they decide to pull the plug.

To be fair i always look Conte as a long term manager. But in nowadays football things change way too fast, and you can't be sure of anything. That's why when a serial proven winner, who is still in his peak shows on the radar, you act fast and do everything to get him.

I'm tired of this "rebuild" some fans are dreaming. This is ain't happening. If we finish outside of top 4, our chances for title are going to be even slimmer. Erik ten Hag is an unproven risk, and we could very well waste 2-3 years with him. Pochettino is a proven PL manager, but he is a serial botcher as well.
Conte was a promise for success in short term, on top of that he is bringing a Champion mentality and he transmits it to the players and the club. He left his clubs in a great state, unlike Mou for example.

If someone promise a manager that is not sure will stick with us for the 5+ years(it's always a guess though), and a title in the next 2 year, compare to the so call "rebuild" in the next so call 2-3 years and a complete black hole and uncertainty how we are going to look and for what exactly we are going to fight, i'm taking the first option straight away!

Thats a good point. I think the club from top to bottom needs to be thoroughly embarrassed before any real action will be taken. The fact we haven’t won 3 consecutive games this season is an absolute fecking embarrassment.

When people say Conte is a bit of a cnut isn't that what we need??

King cantona would not be signed today

If he gets them top 4 then he is manager of the season candidate in my opinion, very impressive.

We've been embarrassed ton of times in the last 8 years and nothing changed.

Not like this. Not 5 nil at home to the scouse, limp efforts against city, this is much different. Even with dire football under Van Gaal, we still managed to win an FA Cup. Under Jose a cup double and some signature wins against our rivals. Ole we had the bounce and consecutive champions league finishes. This is a team that has failed to win 3 consecutive games all season. We are an absolute shambles and this is the lowest point for the club since we were relegated. This season has provided the lessons that we cannot continue on the same path. There is going to be a cleanse throughout the squad and a new manager.

The way Spurs play and move the ball around is night and day compared to our slugfest.

I had wanted Conte as the permanent replacement of Ole. We should have gotten him. He apparently wasn't compatible with United DNA.

Did we overlook Conte for Ralph? Surely there was something more to that.

Regardless, looks like Conte might be able to return spurs to the height of Pochettino. Good transformation, after such an incredible poor start that was close to having him walk out or sacked. Being backed with the right players also helped a lot. If Levy tightened his purse, they could have still be playing with Winks in mid and Lucas on the wing. So Levy deserve credit as well for finally backing a manager other than mourinho

Would be a great achievement for Conte if he can get 4th taking over mid season after Nuno got sacked. Shouldn't be a surprise as he's among the best of this generation. But it'll go down to the wire between them and arsenal.

No we over looked Conte for Ole.

Do we need to have this thread bumped every time Tottenham win a game.

It's the exact same comments and discussion every week, are people not over it?

Arsenal are done. They've lost Partey, they should've upgraded on Xhaka and don't have a goalscorer like Kane or Son.

I mean it will end in tears and he won‘t win anything with Spurs, but anyone who wants to know how a top manager can make a difference within a few months only has to look at Tuchel last season or Conte now.

I don't think it was a choice between Ole/ Ralf vs Conte.

I think your board wasn't interested in Conte because he would have held a big mirror to them and showed them that they were the problem.

I personally would have loved to see Conte tear into the short comings at United (Board and Playing staff alike).

Well based on the reports ETH is doing just that during negotiations.

Conte getting that bounce from world class forwards that Jose managed to get at one time with spurs too.

They are the difference

I hope so because it's exactly what you need.

I just think they weren't prepared for Conte doing it in press conferences etc.

He's done a great job at Spurs but even then there's been plenty of drama.

*Edit* don't get me wrong I don't think he is the potential club building long term manager that EtH can be, I just think he would have taken no prisoners.

The guy is a world class manager plain and simple. I would've been more surprised that we did get him considering how unbelievably inept our decision making has been for a decade now.

Who knew if you hire WC manager that has been winning leagues all over the place the last few years and you would get better.
He obviously isn’t a long term option but the fact he won the league with Chelsea then went and won the league at Inter shows he could of made us challenge for a season or two which is better than where we are

He did a proper job for Italy as well.

There are no long term managers, just the successful ones. Or to say it differently, nobody can be long term, unless they are successful. And that's where the building process should start from.

Not single one of Conte's jobs ended in tears, as people relentlessly claim in this topic week in, week out. No, he didn't shit the house at Juventus, nor has he downgraded them. He set a perfect foundation for Allegri to work in, after taking over terrible Juventus side before. Calciopoli was in 2006 and Juventus was back in Serie A in 2007, but by the time Conte took over nobody took them seriously anymore. And then he set records with them and made unprecedented dominance.

Chelsea also didn't burn down after he left, and he left on high.

How exactly is Conte to blame for Inter too? He took them to second, then won them the league and left because he wanted guarantees that Inter will keep improving, eyeing to one day win the Champions League. Nobody gave him guarantees, so he left. In fact, he didn't stab anyone in the back (apart from Juventus fans obviously, by taking over Inter), he resigned before Inter even started planning for new season. So it was a very fair move by him. And Inter haven't crashed and burned after him, they are still number one candidates for Scudetto.

This long term thing is silly, wherever Conte has been, he's left things in far better state than they were before him.

In Inter he didn't want to sell his best players. And Inter boss was promised funds for challenging for CL. On top of that they wanted him to cut his salary, which is ridiculous having in mind that he just want the league. They just want him out, cause of his big salary, demands and that he is straight forward.

Other than that i fully agree with you. On top of that Conte ain't stupid and he doesn't have much option, so he will want to stay in a big club that can guarantee him decent budget and top players, which WE absolutely are.

Conte could have very well be our long term manager, and our long term success. ETH is a huge gamble, and anyone thinking he is over Conte, eh i just don't know what to say.
