Conte | Spurs Manager

Conte is without a doubt an elite manager, not sure how people can say he isn’t. If he walks, I’m not sure where Spurs would go from there
Where does Conte go from there? Back to Italy with his tail between his legs.

Simone Inzaghi has been sitting atop same league with the same club most of the season with a negative net spend of £150m. Is he an elite manager?

Has he won the league at the last 3 clubs he has been at? This is utterly embarrassing from you mate. Nobody can argue he isn't an elite manager - you trying to makes you look like a bit of an idiot.

Of course he is currently elite. He won the league in Italy at his last club last year. On what planet could you argue he is not currently elite?

Yep, he won the league in Italy. Well done to him. The planet that he isnt elite speaks for itself.

Falling out at Chelsea
Falling out at Inter
Falling out at Spurs

Poor cup competition record
Poor record against top teams
Poor CL record

Has he won the league at the last 3 clubs he has been at?
No, that’s hardly the point you were making though was it? Mourinho had won the league at his last four before he went to United. Including a league title in a much more difficult league two years previous. Conte is smarter at getting out when the going is good though. He had no interest in trying to win the league again with a more budget squad at Inter.

This is pathetic.

They are half-arsing their decision making. You either go for "potential" like a Potter and accept that you're going to need a few difficult years or you want results now because you got Kane and Son. Appointing a Conte/Mourinho without giving them a huge budget and free reign is a waste of time and ressources. They're on course to ruin Poch's "achievements"
Such "achievements" was overplayed. At the time Man City and Liverpool was in transition to what we see with both today. A league that allowed underdogs to flourish hence Leicester winning the title.

He wouldn’t be doing any better with us than Ralf is, and people would be calling him crap and past it.

Yes, even though they have not managed to win something, i don't think anyone expected them to get to a CL final with a squad filled with many B-list players. They got some luck but who doesn't in this competition. They could be midway a serious and smart rebuild but instead they wasted time and money with Conte & Mourinho not giving them exactly what they wanted to get a trophy. Levy messed up big time.

So is his record.

Pretty laughable, given what he's done with the teams he's had. Breaking Juventus' dominance in Italy isn't "pathetic". Neither was setting the consecutive wins record and winning the league at a canter with a Chelsea squad that was finished nowhere near the top the previous season.

I agree with Balaks.

Conte’s track record in league competition is insane. If he’s not elite, it is a meaningless term applying only to Pep and Koop.

We could and should have beaten Boro but they completely outplayed Spurs, look at Forest against Leicester and Arsenal,we shouldn't underestimate good Championship sides if you aren't your game you'll get beat

No question about that. He has walked the walk. That's not really the concern though. Squad issues aside these elite coaches are supposed to elevate teams. He is meant to have Spurs punching above their weight, isn't he?

A manager like Potter or Hassenhutl would, I feel, have a better motivation for being at Spurs. They'd accept having to operate under Levy's restrictions.

I agree as well. Conte top coach, but feels like a busted flush at the moment and not the man to get spurs where they want to be.

Potter etc the sort of manager I think would suit them a lot better, someone bit more modern and known for getting the team punching above their weight. He be closer to Poch early years at spurs than Conte is.

Conte has won leagues, but he will need a lot of money to do these things, and his style is sort of outdated a bit in my opinion.

Where does Conte go from there? Back to Italy with his tail between his legs.

Conte is a world class coach at his prime. He'll have ton of top clubs waiting for him.

The problem is with Spurs if Poch, Mourinho and Conte all had similar problems with the squad in last few years.

He landed in Spurs because many top clubs changed coaches in the summer and didn't want him. He initially passed on Spurs cos he thought bigger clubs were coming but reality hit and he went to Spurs.
Note that last summer his stocks were even higher than it is currently and he didn't get a look in by the top clubs
Madrid Bayern Barca Juve all changed managed recently and didn't consider Conte. Or who are these other ton of top clubs that would consider him? Liverpool City PSG?
With his transfer demands, Signing signing or else he whines publicly throws his pram out, I am not sure there are many top clubs waiting for that type of manager

Only Klopp and Pep (maybe Tuchel) will have their pick of clubs at the moment, Others its not certain for them

Not sure why are Barca and Bayern mentioned here. It's well known they both go for certain types of managers and not just the top names in the market anymore. When was the last time Barca hired a well known coach ? Even Pep wasn't known when they hired him. Barca have hired a lot of shit managers last few years just because of their philosophy in appointing managers. Bayern also didn't appoint any big name since Carlo's exit (whom was a failure). As for Juve, Conte left Inter two days only before they appointed Allegri. He left on May 26th and they appointed Allegri on 28.

He made a mistake signing for Spurs but he probably chose to keep working than to wait in his home. Any other manager would have just taken this season off.

Which clubs? United obviously didn’t want him. City and Liverpool neither want or need him. PSG look likely to go for Zidane and Madrid didn’t want him either.

Pretty sure football doesn't work like that. Not sure a lot expected PSG to go for Poch and we don't know if Zidane will even want to manage PSG. We don't know whom Madrid will go for if Carlo left this summer, so stop acting like managerial changes are so predictable.

So who are these mysterious big clubs that will sign Conte, when he was there all summer and no one wanted him? Now his stock is even lower than in the summer. These are the top clubs in Europe Liverpool, Chelsea City Man utd, PSG Bayern Madrid Barca Juve who are the ones that will be lining up for his signature?

Madrid had a vacancy in the summer and went for Carlo. A coach like Carlo has a reputation for being a management coach. And that alone will get him roles . Unlike Conte and Mourinho who are reputed for being combustible

Managerial changes are unpredictable. You don't know what will happen to any of these big clubs.

I don't understand this logic all honestly. If Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea now, Liverpool, City, PSG, Barca and Bayern won't make a move for him either. Does that mean he's unwanted shit coach ?

One club preferred a manager in such circumstances over another one. It's not really a big deal. The other clubs have their managers already in place.

He should have just taken the season off and wait to see what will happen in summer, but as I said, he probably didn't want to stay in home for a year.

God, I hope people stop treating managerial appointment as it's 1+1. Zidane, a 3 CL winner manager, is in his home now without a work waiting for a club to move for him.

You’re the one doing that when you said top clubs will be queueing up for him. Suddenly when you’re asked for examples we shouldn’t try to predict.

He'll be a choice for any top club who wants to change their manager come next summer indeed. Whom will hire him isn't something anyone can say.

As I said above, if Tuchel is sacked tomorrow by Chelsea, which top club will hire him ?

Maybe one of the clubs who didn’t have that option in the summer and chose not to take it. Like what happened to Conte. Real Madrid are probably more likely to hire a manager with a Champions League on their CV ahead of one who struggles to get out of the groups.

Then no direct answer with certain clubs names as well.

No one can point out which club will appoint which manager, but we all know if someone like Tuchel is sacked, he will be considered as an option for any top club who wanted a change, regardless of him getting appointed or now. Same for Conte.

I literally named a club. It’s irrelevant anyway. I’m not the one claiming top clubs will be waiting for Tuchel. You did for Conte.

No you didn't. You assumed that Madrid will favor a manager who won CL ahead of Conte when they had appointed Lopetegui after Zidane.

I can also point Madrid as an option for Conte if Carlo left this summer.

And I stand by my point. Any top club will be thinking of Conte. He's in his prime and all his previous jobs were a success. He won the league 5 times out of his last 7 seasons at clubs. Ridiculous to think that he won't be in the list of any top clubs wanting a managerial change.

I literally did.

You could point to them as an option. It’s an option they had in the summer and chose not to take however. That’s a fact. Yours is an opinion. We’ll see where he ends up.

Not just Pep and Klopp. Elite is a term applied to managers that do good both in domestic competitions and European ones. Pep, Klopp, SAF, Jose, Ancelotti, Zidane and even Simeone are/were elite managers. Conte is not even close to any of them.

Pretty laughable, given what he's done with the teams he's had. Breaking Juventus' dominance in Italy isn't "pathetic". Neither was setting the consecutive wins record and winning the league at a canter with a Chelsea squad that was finished nowhere near the top the previous season.
"Breaking" :rolleyes:

Juventus finished 4th that year. The way some people wax over him is you'd think he went toe to toe with them till the final day of the season. The only thing Conte broke is Inter's spending. Currently Inzaghi is sitting a top of the same league with half the resources Conte had. But the fact that Juventus turned to shite must also be Conte's achievement.

His Chelsea league, while impressive was achieved in the pre Pep/Klopp PL dominance and post Leicester era. For fecks sake, Brendon Rodgers almost won the PL with Liverpool in the same period. Since then he's been completely abysmal in both the PL and abroad. Since then he literally finished 4th the next season in the PL, won an FA cup though. Wasn't that impressed with his Inter stint either.

I mean Lukaku looked WC in that league and half the CAF was telling me how he's going to destroy the PL at Chelsea. I guess the same half told me that had Conte signed for United we would have challenged for the PL title this season or the next one at the latest. Weird

I haven't deny what he can do in the league. Chelsea have a different model, he won it in a canter then what happened the season after?

Elite managers don't do it for 1 season only. They sustain success.

Also, in my opinion, an elite manager can focus on more than just the league, I am comparing to say Klopp and Pep who are elite, they will have good CL campaigns and PL.

Inter are on pace to finish with 80-81 points, which is 10 points less than last season. They are currently third and if they win their game in hand they'll be 1 point clear at the top of the table. Not really something to brag about IMO.

They lost £180m worth of players in the summer. Conte walked out because of it. I’d say to be that close shows a manager doing a very good job that Conte didn’t believe he could do.

We've gotta be getting to the stage where top clubs start considering whether a manager has the personality to succeed long-term rather than hiring purely on trophy cabinet and past success... right?

Mourinho, Conte, all these guys who can't go more than a year or two without causing a fallout can't keep getting top jobs.

To be fair, the team that had the biggest hand in Juventus' downfall was Juventus.

All in all, he is doing worse than expected, that’s something even he acknowledges as a fact. Where does it go for all parties from here will mainly depend on getting a CL spot… it seems to me (from knowing him a bit, as a Juve fan from Italy) he has made his mind already, yet his desire to leave on a high will keep him hungry and focused.

So Middlesbrough gets Chelsea in FA Cup quarter final.

Perhaps, Conte wanted to avoid his 4th defeat to Chelsea in a season (5th for Tottenham)? :wenger:

Terrible run for Boro, poor guys. Hope they sink Chelsea with a Balogun hattrick.
