Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather | Again?

I read that the other day....and all I got from it was that he was hung up on possibly one bookmakers insane odds of 225/1. Which yeah no, were never actually odds, bookies completely fear the unknown. So much so that since bookies have had this fight in place to bet on, since maybe mid last year despite no fixed date, Conor has never truly been lower than around 15/1. And even then that's insanely kind. When it confirmed, he was 8/1....

Floyd logically is the best investment ever.....but everything about this is so odd to me.

To be honest, the betting angle to the article shouldn't have even been explored, let alone included. The boxing analysis alone was adequately informative and engaging.

Are you sure? I was sure it was £24.95 on Sky PPV for the HD option.

Which fight on Sky PPV was £24.95, then? I was sure we had one priced as such before...
Ahh. Mayweather - Pacquiao was £19.95 but rose to £24.95 if purchased on the day of the fight.

This news is great as I will watch for free but we have less than 4 days to make the promo so done late nights are in order

I think it will be interesting to see how much McGregor's stand up improves in MMA should he return. Especially after spending 9 months training just boxing. He could become even more untouchable on the feet

Get rich and get out. That's what McGregor has said before. I don't think he'll go back to MMA. He's mental anyway. He'd probably demand 100m a fight now off the UFC.

If Floyd was another 5 years older I could see Conor winning on a pure speed/strength combo. But at 40 Floyd should have more than enough left in the tank to beat an amateur, probably even a ko.

Do fight fans from other countries find McGregor fans as irritating as we do in Ireland?

Oh Please.

Some of us McGregor fans have been following the UFC long before McGregor arrived on the scene. In fact since pretty much day one. So don't put us all into the same bracket.

You said it yourself: you're a UFC fan. I have no issue with the likes of yourself (I have similar friends). I said I find the McGregor fanbase irritating.

I'm more than that, I'm a MMA fan full stop.

I've never really got the dislike for people who only like McGregor really. I'm a fan of MMA in general and like the guy.

I dunno maybe I find it odd that a group of Man Utd fans are criticising people for jumping on a bandwagon of someone. Could them said McGregor fans not rightfully question why plenty of people on here support Manchester United for example? Why not Stockport County or Man City?

The thing that annoys me about McGregor fans that jumped on the bandwagon around the Siver fight are two fold:

1. They always try to educate people on MMA. I have many friends who can't even name the likes of Machida, Chuck Liddell, Rampage Miguel Torres etc. Fairly recent fighters who have been very influential to MMA history yet they sit there and try and school me on MMA and can't take anyone's opinion on board because their head is so far up McGregor's bum hole.

2. you can be a McGregor fan but why do they write like he speaks? E.g. Fook Mayweather, McGregor will take his head clean off. Go around calling everyone a bum. Give me a break.

I mean, most these guys think Eddie Alvarez is some bum off the streets because McGregor beat him so soundly... seriously? Eddie Alvarez is now a bum? Just because you started watching MMA yesterday?

I like Mcgregor and his unique style of combat, however he is competing in a different sport now. His strengths will be pretty much neutralised and Mayweather's experience in the ring combined with his exceptional defensive boxing skills will pretty much make Mcgregor look like an amateur. The perfect analogy would be Rafael Nadal deciding to go up against a retired Badminton player who is regarded as one of the best in his sport, to play a game of badminton. If Mayweather were to fight in the cage with MMA gloves people would laugh it off as a non-contest. I don't see how this is any different; MCgregor is an MMA fighter not a boxer. Different rules, different required skill-set, different fitness, different gloves, it's a feckin other sport full stop. Are people honestly expecting him to walk in and put a boxer to sleep who is regarded as the best defensive boxer of his generation, ending his career with zero losses?

Having said that, I can't blame him for not saying no to that amount of money, hopefully this circus will pass quickly enough and he can get back to fighting in the cage. I am probably one of the only people who is not that eager to watch this circus unfold.

There are McGregor fans on here and other forums (the more reputable MMA forums) where people act their age and they don't write like that.

You're on about the facebook and the like crowd. Same sort of crowd we ourselves mock on the facebook Man Utd page thread in the general. That crowd make other fans that really shouldn't hate us too.

Yes they are terrible. I used to consider myself a Conor fan as I've watched him closely for the last few years and I have cheered him on whenever he's stepped into the octagon but I've kind of gone off him ever since this Floyd fight got serious. I'm actually looking forward to seeing Floyd embarrass him at this point.

Also the casual McGregor fans are annoying too. The ones who only started watching McGregor fight when the Diaz rematch happened and have no idea how MMA or boxing works.

Point 1-I agree fully. Its headwrecking.

Point 2- It is really annoying.

Spot on mate.

If Mayweather wants it enough, he could end this in the first round. Maybe he'll throw the wannabe McGregor a bone though to keep things interesting

Can we be friends?

:D

McGregor will be doing so much dancing and throwing so many shapes around Mayweather in rounds 1 & 2 that Mayweather won't know what's going on don't mind get a chance to finish him.

McGregor will win this, make no mistake about it. He'll suck the life out of Mayweather with body shots from rounds 3 to 5 and go in with his killer left in round 6.

Ye sound like them lads in the Utd forum that from time to time do be having cracks at us OOT's just because ye happen live in Manchester and have supported Utd since 1932. Rest of us know jack shit.

Way to much generalisation going on here when it comes to Conor McGregor fans.

As for the fight, you'd feel McGregor will need a 1st/2nd round KO to win here. Mayweather will have him sussed out by round three and it'll just be a procession from there on, either Mayweather on a latter round TKO or a unanimous decision. I'd be very surprised if Mayweather knocks him out, although McGregor was stunned in Diaz I with a few open-palm slaps, so you never know.

When McGregor's hands drop, and they will drop (either through his well-publicised issues with fatigue or Mayweather working his body), Mayweather will plummel his face with lightning jabs and hooks. I can definitely see a referee's decision here or McGregor's corner stepping in in the latter rounds. I'd be very surprised at any other outcome to be honest.

McGregor fans positing that he'll win because he's southpaw, he's unorthodox etc. are clutching. Look at Mayweather's complete and utter destruction of a Grade 1 fighter in Ricky Hatton, particularly the first knockdown in the KO round. Hatton thought he had him pinned and went with the left jab, which Mayweather beautifully read and delivered a thundering counter left hook, which Hatton's low right hand wasn't protecting against. Any footage of McGregor sparring/fighting shows him with a low right hand every time he unleashes a left punch. Mayweather will have sussed any weakness in McGregor's boxing armoury inside three rounds, of which there should be many for such an inexperienced fighter st this level.

Far from it.

I can only speak of my own experience with McGregor fans. Out of every twenty who say they love him, I'd say there's only two or three whom you'd consider proper, long-time UFC/MMA fans. The rest are just ill-informed bandwagoners who spout the latest catchphrase McGregor has contrived before a press conference. I very, very rarely hear talk of run-of-the-mill UFC events but it's wall-to-wall expertise when McGregor is fighting in an event. It becomes very tiresome, very quick.

I was joking there! I don't think any MMA fighter is a bum and I'm pretty sure McGregor doesn't either. I've great time for them and that goes for the ordinary joe soaps fighting on the local scenes too. Fantastic nights out.

I think so too. I think if Floyd truly does want to win by a KO it's basically anytime he wants. He is the puncher in this fight for a change against the least skilled opponent he's ever fought without headgear. I think he will carry Conor for a round or two but by then McGregor will be falling over himself and Floyd will start teeing off on him. He will either get laid our or he'll quit.

Mayweather does have brittle hands, and there's no doubt that mcgregor can take a punch. I think instead of going for the KO, he'll just land a lot of unanswered punches forcing a stoppage.

A lot of the fight really will depend on how mcgregor chooses to be on the back foot. His footwork is excellent, and there not a huge difference in terms of how you stay out of range. Conor is slick enough to dance around anyone, it's just that his attitude is usually to be on the front foot.

A victory for mcgregor is making it into round 4, IMO.

I thought you were joking, but wasn't sure. Can never tell online.
