This guy is a nothing player. What is he supposed to be good at?

He's as one dimensional and average as can be. Southgate's ideal midfielder really.

Mainoo and Wharton are right there which makes selecting him worse

Absolutely crap. Bit part player his entire career loaned out among half the lower league clubs

McTominay looks like Zidane in comparison.

Looked really good as an attacking midfielder at Palace. He's much worse playing deeper.

He's basically McTominay minus the height.

He looked terrified that he was going to get sent off after he got booked. Pulled out of a few challenges later on.

I think we should play both, people will disagree but those 2 + rice (simply because there are no other real options), and that can work. Relying heavily on youth though.

It brings back memories of the bad days of watching England over the last few decades that he is getting minutes because he “has energy” and runs around a bit. Dire.

I think that is a good option. I'd even go as far to say we could go a diamond route of

Rice
Mainoo Wharton
Bellingham
Kane ???
but, one, we would need Shaw back, and two, we'd need this tournaments version of Sterling and Rashford. Gordon, I suppose?

I believe Bellingham has played in this formation a lot for Madrid.

Opponents will run through that team. That team will work for next world cup minus Kane.

Gordon is a good pick, but I don't think we have someone on the left to do this and walker isn't such an individual attacking threat.

Guys please be real. If it was Mainoo out there he too would look shite just as every other England player did.

Gallagher is no world beater but he’s far away from shite. He has qualities that every team could use.

Gallagher is very average, he just has really good stamina.

You could well be right, and it's definitely not my first choice either. I guess it came to mind because I think Bellingham excelled in that formation this season, but he also had Rodrigo and Vinicius Jr stretching the play next to him.

I just mentioned him in another thread but Saka could be an option. He looked very good at LB before he was moved to the RW position.

Well you are talking about something at very least is completely unknown to me, and I would guess unknown to you really. When did you last see Saka play lb?

Gallagher is a squad player who came as a substitute. He did what he was asked to do.
Oh I'm not angry at him at all, I just don't think he's someone that's going to help us in the first 11, he's not that good.

Those kids are too young to play in central midfield with Bellingham Kane before them in the team. They dont able to support the kids in midfield.

He has no vision, sub par technique, no passing range, can’t control, can’t shoot, can’t dribble. Absolute waste of a midfielder. A nothing player. Mctominay is 10 times better than him and I think mctominay is bang average.

It has been a long time, granted, but I just feel like Saka's one of those players who will perform wherever you ask him to play. The type of player Fergie loved. I recall being very impressed when Saka was first breaking through at Arsenal in that position.

Obviously I'd rather Shaw, but I don't think he'd be a bad stand-in. It's pointless to even discuss, though, because I think the chances of playing him there are close to zero.

Isn't this part of the problem ? ''He's not that good''. What matters is how an XI compliment each other.

Yes but aside from stamina he offers nothing better than anyone else, and considering the football is pretty slow, he's not needed.
