The mass murderer could and most likely will go on to kill others, and it's not just that they've killed a few people, they've scarred the victim's family's and friends' lives forever, they'd most likely never recover from something like this.
Also, even though it's false closure, it is closure for everyone else to know that the 'killer' has been punished, and they can attempt to move on with their lives.

You can't have different rules for different persons. You can't just abandon the right to

Depending on the country, if the mass murderer is tried and found not guilty then he can not be tried again on those same charges. So the only way to arrest and try him is if he goes on another mass murder spree and then you try him for those murders or if you are lucky just that one murder.
Does that change your answer a little or had you already considered that?
Though in my mind I am assuming the original question had to do with a trial being complete and you had the choice of voting guilty or not guilty and the possibility that your decision could be wrong.
