Who said I'm getting worked up? When it appears on Spotify that's probably when I'll listen to it. Then again, the audio version of Lemonade still hasn't turned up on Spotify, so who knows?
You wrote a whole an essay basically damning the entire creation of Tidal, when it seemed as though you weren't sure of the purpose of it having an exclusivity period
Jay Z is just continuing the stereotypes. I'm sure anyone who is jewish has got a lot better things to do and doesn't really give a shit, it's one stupid line in a album but I think it's disappointing as Jay is getting on to be 50 years old and as a fan I don't want the experience of listing to a Jay Z album to be the same as when grandpa comes over for christmas.
That's fair enough, I can understand the disappointment. I believe that line comes on a song thats about black empowerment and trying to help black people start more businesses and such. So for me, personally I like the idea behind it, and I think for Jay to be nearly 50, nearly worth a billion, but built it all from scratch with everything stacked against him - I like that he's switching his attention and focus towards empowering those in a similar circumstance to him, or who look up to him. We need more of that.
It is shitty that they aren't all under one banner though. What has Tidal even got to offer other a than a few exclusive Beyonce and Jay Z albums?
So to qoute the king. "feck Jay Z".
Why would they all come under one banner? Competition benefits everybody, including the consumer.
Spotify benefits the consumer more than it does the artist, due to royalties, but it was the first service available and has the largest amount of users - plus its the only one with a free tier, so of course it's more attractive.
Tidal offers exclusive content, videos, interviews etc.
Similarly Apple music has it's radio service, recently new tv shows & movies etc
Google Play, Amazon etc all have their own benefits too.
There's nothing wrong with Jay-Z or any artist wanting more control over distribution of their music, especially he wants to get paid fairly for it.
Then again - i'm just not a fan of downloading music illegally, especially if I claim to be a fan of an artist, so maybe i'm biased.
