the funniest thing is this last Drake drop is probably the best actual track of the whole beef, from an aesthetically lyrical and production standpoint (that Beatles beat at the end is sick) whereas these last two Kendrick ones have been quite simplistic for him, but the content has been evil, whereas Drakes has been… well, aesthetic. I’ve never really liked Drake but I’ve got to give him a lot of credit for actually kinda rising to it today… only for Kendrick to make it almost irrelevant within 20 minutes.
He’s clearly baiting him into this because he genuinely fecking hates him.
The best thing to happen to ‘proper’ Hip Hop for ages though (though I do also agree with
@adexkola that any attempt to dismiss the more commercial stuff is silly…. We are in the Commercial Hip Hop thread for a start, and even a lot of the ‘hard’ stuff in Hip Hop is empty posturing) just because the quality is as high as the profile, which is rare.
The last few days have seen some good beats at last too. People like to pretend it doesn’t matter but all the best most enduring diss tracks have been bangers to some extent, and the early ones were all kinda crap (First Person Shooter was alright, but it’s only just about part of the main event) Even Euphoria seemed like it was over some early 00s Rap forum stuff. The kinda thing you’d get by searching “battle beat” on Napster….
