J Cole apologising really ruined this whole thing. Everyone knew Drake never stood a chance against Kendrick lyrically and even though he had some decent bars in his responses he was never gonna seriously hurt K Dot. At least with Cole he has the ability to compete with Kendrick on a lyrical level even though I think Kendrick is a better rapper. They could’ve produced some all time classics if they really went at it but I guess this was always more personal for Drake and Kendrick with Cole sort of just caught up in it and wasn’t really feeling it.
Not just her, there have been a few female celebs, fans and influencers around the age of 15-17 that he's been creepy around.
Drake is turning into JA Rule. He's a great hit maker and very successful mainstream but gets bodied when trying to act the hard man.
JA could have carried on having an illustrious career releasing songs with Ashanti on the hook. That's what his fans wanted but he got so caught up being the big man and making diss albums and releasing songs live Clap Back and then we all know how that ended.
Looks like the same can happen to Drake if he carries on.
Cole lacking the heart has really ruined a lot of his reputation. I guess he's happy with his decision but we missed out on something potentially great

the funniest thing is this last Drake drop is probably the best actual track of the whole beef, from an aesthetically lyrical and production standpoint (that Beatles beat at the end is sick) whereas these last two Kendrick ones have been quite simplistic for him, but the content has been evil, whereas Drakes has been… well, aesthetic. I completely agree. I don’t want to sound like I’m taking anything away from Drake, I actually like him and he has my full respect for going head on into this beef. Anyone that has the balls to battle deserves respect, especially when going up against someone with the lyrical ability of Kendrick.
I just think Cole and Kendrick battling it out would’ve been amazing from a pure rap perspective. You’re right though, this whole thing has given the hip hop scene a much needed spark and it’s a great time to be a rap fan. Chris Brown’s even getting in the mix and has actually dropped on of the best diss tracks recently called Weakest Link aimed at Quavo.

They stopped working together after Kendrick's control verse and have been sneak dissing each other on occasion since.

Indeed, in fact as someone whose mostly phased out of caring much about hip hop over the last decade, in a weird way I’ve come out of this with a bit more respect for Drake (on the basis of already being well aware of Kendrick’s level, and that he always gonna win this)… if Drake is very lucky he could end up with some Rocky-esque pyrrhic cred-in-defeat from the whole thing, whereas Drake’s younger more poppy fanbase might gain some counteracting love for dot (if they don’t think he’s just a big horrible meany) so, win win for the ‘scene’ really*
*Drake’s mainstream dancey fans aren’t really gonna care about how deep Kendrick’s gone, and the kind of Radiohead-esque Kendrick fans making up 20 extra symbolic meanings for his track titles weren’t gonna respect Drake anyway, so everyone in the middle just gets to enjoy some enjoyable shit.

The whole Drake/Ja comparison doesn't really compare well in this scenario. First of all Drake is bigger than Ja, way bigger commercially than Ja ever was. Second of all Ja was also up against Eminem/50, 2 artists who were commercially way bigger than he was. Kendrick, despite being a better lyricist than Drake isn't anywhere near as big as Drake commercially.

Shock factor and gossip rap is not healthy or good for hip hop. It feels as if after Story of Adidon every one is looking for that bombshell reveal, at least Pusha name referenced everyone he revealed. But contacting camps for gossip and not trying to just compete is not how we’ll see who’s better head to head.

If it wasn't for the industry keeping Drake above water and backing him then Kendrick would have already finished this well before meet the Grahams. There are too many bars, lines, doubles, and triples to keep up with. Drake is lucky he has the fanbase and backing he does.
No I agree. There’s no point him being involved in this. He’d just be kind of off to the side doing some nice little bars on his own whilst the other two threw literal shit at each other anyway.
If he is fearing a similar fate to Ja, such fears are overblown. Ja Rule wasn't as popular back then as Drake is now. Plus I think 50 Cent and his gangster rap was a breath of fresh air to the poppy, shiny suits era of hip-hop after Biggie's demise, which is why he was overwhelmingly supported.
Drake is more entrenched in today's rap scene. And rap is more fragmented today, I don't think we will ever get back to a situation where grimy rap is suddenly mainstream and Drake suddenly becomes a non-entity. I think Kendrick made a mistake of thinking there's something you could say on wax that would take Drake out, and it seems he's getting more desperate with each diss track. He needs to just accept that this is a new era, a lot of fans don't care about culture vultures and ghostwriters, they just want to shake arse in Miami to his songs

Yea, there is no reason to suggest that Cole was ever going anywhere personal in that potential beef.
It is entirely plausible that the main reason he backed out was because he noticed how low Kendrick and Drake were willing to go and that put him off, but him releasing a diss track, it immidiately getting a lot of bad reception gives him additional, much simpler and less mature incentive to do that exact same thing.
