It's still impressive what Deion has done, the hype went way too far of course and are a season or two away from really being a threat. The way they are recruiting though, first through transfer portal and then recently with high school players, they will surpass Oregon in time.

Assuming he stays in Boulder long-term, which I doubt. He'll likely get pulled to a bigger school in the near future.

His schtick plays better in the South, though I'm not up to date on what coaches might be on the hot seat in those parts.

Jimbo probably would be if he didn't start turning these great classes into titles, but I seem to recall his buyout would be huge.

Yeah, Jimbo is meh. I don't think A&M would see Deion as a good fit in their culture and tradition but never know, wins and hype matter more. Jimbo's buyout is really high I think, probably sees him sticking around a while unless they start tanking (which is possible with OU and UT headed that way).

I could see Deion off to a Southeastern school like Auburn, Florida (unless he'd never coach them being an FSU guy), Miami (if they move on from Cristobal), Miss State, South Carolina, etc. It's madness that South Carolina is paying Beamer $6m per year for slightly above average results.

If Oklahoma decides to fire Venable perhaps they'd consider him.
If Mack Brown retires, wonder if UNC would be go for Deion and he might find the job tempting.
What if Dabo bolts from Clemson to Alabama if Saban retires in the near future... Would Clemson be interested in Deion?
Perhaps a Big Ten(Plus 8) school throws an offer at him, especially a western program per say UCLA move on from Fat Chip.

Deion has denounced FSU as his college as he never graduated. feck him…

Dabo won't be the next HC at Alabama, it's clear Clemson are going backwards due to Dabo not changing with the times (sorry @Carolina Red) especially regarding the transfer portal. This is not just my opinion but the opinion of others who are actually in the sport. According to Paul Finebaum, Deion could be on the final shortlist to replace Saban if he were to retire, there's no doubt that Deion's pull + Alabama's clout would be a juggernaut from recruiting and NIL perspective.

Didn’t catch it. Ohio State poor or ND good?

A close friend who is a Buckeye said that their defense never laid a hand on ND’s QB.
Not really either one being good or bad. They were very very evenly matched teams. That big gulf in quality that folks have started to associate with ND teams up against higher ranked opponents wasn’t there.

Interesting. Ohio State actually moved up in the AP poll so the voters felt the victory was against another similarly skilled squad.

Has Clemson ever dabbled into the portal? If not, how come?
There’s been 3 transfer portal players to Clemson, and they’ve all been backups.

The why basically just comes down to Dabo not liking it. He doesn’t want to use it to find starting players.

“My transfer portal is right there in that locker room, because if I’m constantly going out every year and adding guys from the transfer portal, I’m telling all those guys in that locker room that I don’t believe in them, that I don’t think they can play,” Swinney told ESPN. “We’re also not doing our job as coaches and recruiters if we’re bringing in a bunch of transfers. We’re not going to build our roster on transfers.

Again, if we’re having to use it to help build our roster, that means we’ve missed on kids and we’re no longer signing the best of the best out there. I don’t see that coming. We’ll have to use it, but only to fill a gap. There’s nobody on the planet that won’t have to use it. Just like this year, we’re down one in the offensive line and we need to find a guy, so we’re actively looking for an offensive lineman between now and May to get him in here for summer school. But we’re not just going to take a guy to take a guy because we think he’s a good player.”

I think his portal strategy is a mistake. If other teams are using it to strengthen, then Clemson will eventually get left behind, which already appears to be happening this year.

Yep. As @MrMarcello said, shades of Mack Brown at Texas creeping in... i.e. not adapting to the change that everyone else recognized.

A tier chart like I like to post in the NFL thread below. It's still early to use EPA, especially with easy early schedules to take into consideration, but I love me some graphs.

NCAA football trivia question for you…

What school has the longest active consecutive winning seasons streak in FBS?
Wisconsin?

edit: my guess was a “always good but never great” power conf team so that’s either UW or Iowa. Maybe one of the group of 5 teams, but I think Boise had a losing season in the mid 2010’s.

Good question. Wouldn’t have guessed that team (well, the team who had the record in 2020, can’t find any further info to date).

They're 2nd on the list... and (hint) they're longest active streak among Power 5 schools.

Nope.
Boise then?

I knew UW was up there. I work for a Madison based company and I get to hear how “this is the year” every year.

None of them are anywhere close to the all-time D1 record though... modern or pre-modern era.

And then the overall NCAA all-divisions record is an absurd number

Wasn't the modern D1 record held by a school like say Nebraska? Though could be an Ivy League school going way back, or course a Notre Dame.
All Time D1 Record: pre-modern is Notre Dame 1889-1932 (42 seasons), modern era is Florida State 1977-2017 (41 seasons)

All-Divisions Record: D3 Linfield College in Oregon (65 seasons and it is still active!)
