Cold War against China?

Safe to say that Macron will get the cold shoulder from Japan for as long as he will remain President of France unless he changes his position on this issue. The man is becoming no different from Orbán or Erdogan as a nuisance within NATO.

I don't have much faith that either the United States or China have the sociopolitical culture to avoid escalating tensions - probably to the point of war at some point. Maybe if climage change disaster wasn't looming, but not with that added to the already existing mix of rigid authoritarianism, exceptionalism, military-industrial complex, racism, economic corruption and pure greed, plus the base, power hungry desire of becoming the hegemon vs remaining one.

A good 'ol world war with 4 billion death might solve climate change. Only one can hope

But yeah it seems that the world is collapsing in so many fronts for so many (different) reasons.

I dont believe for a second that the US would risk open war over a country like Taiwan. Not when push comes to shove anyway. They might do what they are doing for Ukraine but they have nothing to gain from it at the end of the day.

I think we would, at least until we start building semiconductors over here en masse.

As if China is clean in the context of distrust that has been growing over the last 10-11 years. :wenger::nono:

This situation will not get any better anywhere with all the things that we keep on uncovering about the CCP's disruptive activities across the Western world, namely illegal police stations and other intimidation actions against local Asian communities. Last but not least, Westerners are leaving China as well because of the current political and economic climate ove there. Too easy to blame it all on the US when it's also worth looking at the other side's backyard.

The alliance of Freedom and Democracy is gaining strength and the Free Press is putting the "People's Republic" in its place!

The Chinese official raised concerns about ‘India’s recent restrictive measures against Chinese companies’ alluding to some recent actions against Xiaomi and others. Xiaomi is facing charges of Foreign Exchange Management Act 1999 (FEMA) violations triggered by alleged funds transfer from India to Europe. New Delhi’s targeted campaign against Chinese companies operating in India is starting to resemble what the US has been doing for the past three years. The actions against Chinese companies are Beijing’s own making.

When it comes to the race to fill the demand for Russian systems, China is in a uniquely advantageous position. Six of the 15 largest defense firms in the world are Chinese state-owned enterprises. China has the defense manufacturing capacity to meet domestic demand while delivering large orders of increasingly sophisticated systems and platforms to foreign buyers.

Hukou is a kind-of caste system, where (roughly) you can access benefits (school, hospitals) only in your area of birth. It means that migrant workers from rural areas to cities (who have basically been powering the world economy for 20 years) are totally governed by market forces, allowing downward pressure on wages and making exports more competitive.
Now, as they try to build a bigger domestic market and expand their middle class, they are trying to reduce these restrictions...which seems to be leading to protests from the winners of the system (urban-born residents).
If this was a representative democracy, this would be when (roughly) Lula gets replaced by Bolsanaro. Let's see how the party deals with it - in the other post in the thread, it seems the protestors were singing a pro-party song, appealing to the central govt rather than the local ones implementing this change.
A previous big reform attempt by the party (improving gig work conditions) still hasn't gone through as far as I know. Turns out capitalism and people are difficult to manage!

Meh. Feck Kissinger and his shitty legacy, especially in Southeast Asia and Latin America.
