Coentrao to leave Real | Loan deal collapses

The Sky reporter insinuated that he was told by United that Coentrao would allow Evra to play LW.

Jesus wept. We're revisiting failed experiments from years back. If that's our bag, at least make it those weird stringy collars.

You're wrong IMO, very good left back. Seems to be underrated on here.

It seems Moyes does want to play with wingbacks doesn't he. Clearly wanted Baines but it was a no go so a last minute loan for Coentrao done instead. I would imagine there is an option to buy as part of the deal.

What do we make of it being a loan? Wise move or should we have just bought him?

Don't get carried away yet guys. Knowing our luck this window, I am willing to bet that rumors are true and we haven't submitted the paper work on time.

Totally agree. Also competition and giving Evra a rest can only be good for the team overall. Really hope it happens.

I think he's top class but I doubt we've got the stuff in in time. Something will be wrong.

Coentrao is a superb player. I wanted us to buy him after the Euros last summer.

If Coentrao really is coming on a season long loan, it's a decent piece of business. Coentrao can play as a left winger or central midfielder as well as his primary position as left back. An awful lot better than paying 18Million+ for Baines and it will not upset Evra as much Baines would have done.

That Sky reporter is talking out of his ass. As if we'd come out and tell anybody that.

If this move actually happens it'll be Coentrao who is used more out on the left wing. He's not great defensively but is quality going forward. Would be good as an option for LB or out as a winger. Not a chance it'd be Evra out on the wing with Coentrao at LB.

I think the most realistic explanation is that we moved so late for him that there'd be no time to do all the paperwork as well as a medical for a permanent move. We'll probably get him on a loan with a buy-out fee and sign him on a permanent basis next season. Then again it's United so we'll probably miss the deadline on the buy-out option or try to negotiate the price down after a year.

I can actually see us going with wing backs in certain games, Coentrao and Rafael flying forward.

-----------de Gea----------
---Vidic----Ferdinand---Evans----
Rafael----------------------Coentrao
--------Fellaini---Carrick-----------
-------------Kagawa--------------
--------Rooney----van Persie------

Times up United. Show us the money!

If there is a buy clause I am happy with the deal. It gives us a chance to see how he does in the PL and a try before you buy without rocking the boat with Evra and Fabio etc.

I get the feeling Moyes and the new staff have not had time to identify targets properly and there has been some confusion with players and an air on the side of caution approach.

I am just going to cry if this happens.

now being reported that Coentrao with a permanent option Looks like real maybe trying to backtrack but nothing confirmed

Madrid just got Bale, he can play LB, just let us have Coentrao.

Everything is pointing to a done deal at the moment. Sky are certainly talking about it that way anyway whilst outside Old Trafford

Manchester United may not have signed Fabio Coentrao after they faxed the papers too late.
Manchester United may not have actually signed Fabio Coentrao, with a dispute over whether the papers were sent over in time.
Reports are conflicting, but to sum up: most in England seem to think the deal is done, most in Spain seem to think it isn't. We're hoping to get confirmation on the situation before midnight, with Sky Sports News still broadcasting and hoping to clarify the situation.
It was a surprise deal with no real mention of the player until the deadline had actually passed, although we had talked up the possibility of signing him before.
Realistically, we may not know until morning. Coentrao is a nice player to have around, but he's not the player who'll define our season. That player was passed up for the want of the same amount of money we paid extra to sign Marouane Fellaini after waiting for his contract to expire.
