Cody Gakpo

Pleased to say I was never on the Cackpo train. Another one I called right.

My opinion back in October based on his EL games:

"I've not seen it with him yet, he seems cumbersome. He seems another of the kind of players who slows the game down rather than speeds it up, plus can only seem to run well in a straight line with space, rather than jink through or passed defenders.
I don't think it's only to do with PSV generally struggling in games such as tonight as at least Simons and Madueke looked somewhat lively, sharp and dangerous.
Is he even a CF anyway? He plays like a worse Rashford. I don't see what he'd bring to Utd."

Opinion during the World Cup:

"Scored a cracking goal then went back to being more like Cackpo again for the next 70 minutes before getting subbed."

When he was first linked with Liverpool:

"Maybe this is a CR7 + Alexis Sanchez --> Man City type situation; trying to force Utd's hand for an underwhelming player."

Tbh saying I told you so about a player after two months at a new club is nothing to brag about.

He's slower and more predictable than Antony. Massive bullet dodged, it's worrying that Ten Hag was eager to sign him to be honest.

What stood out for me when watching him at the WC, he set off well in the first few games and then allowed himself to be marked out of every other game. Needs to add some aggression to his game, otherwise he'll continue to be eaten up by PL full backs.

I'm not judging him just like I'm not judging Antony either. He has come to a dysfunctional team, no actual position to play and a new league. I don't know whether he will come good or not but it's too early to talk about it.

When Diaz and Jota is back, he won't start and that may be a problem for him.

That quote reads and sounds insanely fake

Yeah that’s surely bollocks.

Embarrassing post.

I don't know if the quotes are true or false but I also do remember VVD saying at the WC that Gapko can do better than United.

So it well could be that VVD convinced him to go to Liverpool.

Personally, I was never keep on him, we already have players that can play his position, he isn't better than any we have currently.

We would be spending money that was not required for a LW/CF, when we have 2 of them already, add to that Garnacho and Sancho.

Told my friend he would go at least 10 games before his first goal.
I think it’s 7 against Everton?

Garnacho is better than him. Glad we didnt sign him, a bit worrying that EtH was keen.

Ruud does say some stupid shit at times, wouldn't put it past him

does sound ridiculous though

Maybe ETH realised after a few months that he’s not suited to the PL and decided against making an offer in January.

Hopefully we put a better scouting system in place so we don't have to solely rely on the manager's choices.

Absolute hero

Not a surprise he'd be interested. He had really good stats for PSV.

I don't believe the interest was that strong though, if we REALLY wanted him we would have got it done IMO.

I think as you say, ETH realised Garnacho is actually ready to contribute, so we didn't need another.

Liverpool's xGi/90 (expected goals + expected assists/90 minutes played) in the EPL for this season:

Nunez 1,24 xGi/90 (0,91xG/90 + 0,34xA/90)
Firmino 0,81 xGi/90 (0,60xG/90 + 0,21xA/90)
Salah 0,74 xGi/90 (0,52xG/90 + 0,22xA/90)
Bajcetic 0,66 xGi/90 (0,39xG/90 + 0,27xA/90)
The Ox 0,64 xGi/90 (0,42xG/90 + 0,22xA/90)
Diaz 0,59 xGi/90 (0,38xG/90 + 0,21xA/90)
Jota 0,49 xGi/90 (0,20xG/90 + 0,29xA/90)
TAA 0,41 xGi/90 (0,07xG/90 + 0,33xA/90)
Keita 0,38 xGi/90 (0,16xG/90 + 0,22xA/90)
Gakpo 0,37 xGi/90 (0,34xG/90 + 0,03xA/90)
.
.
Or even worse: Liverpool's goalthreat G+xA/90 (goals + expected assists/90 minutes played) in the EPL this season:
Firmino 0,88 G+xA/90 (0,67G/90 + 0,21xA/90)
Nunez 0,79 G+xA/90 (0,45G/90 + 0,34xA/90)
Diaz 0,65 G+xA/90 (0,44G/90 + 0,21xA/90)
Salah 0,57 G+xA/90 (0,35G/90 + 0,22xA/90)
...and 15 more players, then...
Gakpo 0,03 G+xA/90 (0,0G/90 + 0,03xA/90)

Liverpool's hasn't scored in the EPL since he arrived.
He looked "lively" against Chelsea, but couldn't convert. Compared to the players Liverpool are used to play up top or on the left, he's not close.....yet.
He'll need time to adjust, time Liverpool doesn't have. Good luck!

Hopefully we put a better scouting system in place so we don't have to solely rely on the manager's choices.

The thing about this is, there is no winner.

When the club buys a player they scout, "Its the boards signing, not manager". We all saw this at the start of the season when Casemiro was not being played and fans were saying because its not a Ten Hag signing.

On the other hand.

We are rubbish, we rely on manager to scout, what is the club doing.

You will note, its actually a joint decision on transfers. The manager will say, I need x player to suit this role.

Doesn't seem many in the Netherlands are happy that he chose Liverpool
