If we could get Gakpo and Antony in and somehow fleece Ronaldo off to Chelsea, that would be perfect.

Erik has said that Rashford is central to his plans so unless Erik has a bit of Ole in him I cannot see how we would be in for this guy.
Every time ETH is asked a question about a player, he will always say he is in his plans. If he says anything different, he’s asking for trouble.

It’s reported that ETH would prefer to let Ronaldo go, but to the media ETH will always say he’s in his plans.

Obviously wouldn’t be bidding 100m for Antony if this were true

EtH can say that - even if his plans are to have a player peeling potatoes in the canteen

I don't think Antony coming would be any threat to Rashford's spot on the left.
Of course it gives the option of moving Sancho to the left but from what I witnessed last season and this season Sancho would struggle to hold a starting spot on either wing anyway.

I would say that’s highly unlikely. Rashford has not performed as striker at all down the centre for a long long time. His days as a striker for Utd are done.

He’s been so poor as a striker that ETH even played Eriksen as a false striker on the opening day and kept Rashford out wide.

it’s more likely that he will play Rashford as a striker rather than a new to the league player who hasn’t even played striker in the eredvisie.

i think we can agree on that.

Has nothing to do with it. Ten Hag can love both Rashford and Sancho and still feel he needs Antony. You need 3 top wingers in your squad. Wingers need rotation, need a high quality sub, need competition for places etc and they all offer something different. Some positions it's fine to have a clear starter and backup who rarely gets subbed, but for the wings, you tend to sub one of them every game. So it's important to have 3 players on a similar level to rotate.

Gakpo/Antony/FdJ left to close out this window.

Either ETH is pulling some major levers on the Glazers or the Glazers are stuffing the turkey to dress it up. But either way, the initial, shocking two losses have been a blessing in disguise.
We lose to the scousers tonight and we will close those 3 deals más rápido.
Can a loss be a win?

I don't think anyone believes we can win tonight or even get a draw, we would do well not get humiliated like big scoreline. Our season will start once Transfer Window is closed and all new players are eligible to play even than it might take time for them to adopt to PL and ETH system.

Generaly people in the Netherlands are laughing their ass off that we might be spending over 200 mil for 3 players from the Eredivisie who have everything to prove in a top 4 League.

And rightfully so. The fees for Martinez and Anthony are unreal, while Gakpo receives critisism for being average in the bigger matches.

I dont see how Gakpo is going to improve us directly. Rather see Garnacho getting time than splash a load of cash on a player that has shown good things in the Eredivisie but not much more.

Yeah, the reactions from people who regularly watch the Eredivisie concern me. None of them seem to think any of them are that special. At least Gakpo seems reasonably priced, Antony fee is just bonkers.

I have not seen much of Gakpo, but I'm a bit surprised about Man Utd signing him. A right footed left winger?

And if I am not mistaken, both Bergwijn and Memphis was considered to be better and bigger talents?

I would say the hype on Gakpo is about the same as Bergwijn had in his last year. Depay was seen as a bigger player at the time we signed him.

Gakpo more or less got outshined by Madueke, who looked more talented than Gakpo. Unfortunately Madueke has been suffering from multiple injuries which causes him to miss about 25 games. And now again he has a long term injury ruling him out untill 2023.

I'd rather we buy this fella, reasonable and easy deal to be made compared to forcing Ajax into a sale and overpaying.

Why would it be an easy deal? PSV is very aware that Ajax is pulling our pants down in the transfer negotiations.

Their star player Madueke is out for half a year so why would they easily sell of their other star player for a decent fee?

PSV is going to ask for 60 mil if I would have to take a guess.

Anthony I like, Gakpo, not really. He has some Darwin/Lukaku about him, seems he doesn't really like the ball that much.

I was going of based on the reports who are always similar in the range of 35-45m. And Ajax is pulling our pants as long as we let them, I agree that PSV would be dumb to sell us Gakpo for half of what we are paying Ajax, ant that's the biggest issue with overpaying.

Both Rashford and Ronaldo have a year left on their contract and we know one definitely doesn’t want to be here, and the other supposedly has been in talks with PSG. I think if/when we sign these two Dutch league lads, the club will acquiesce to letting one of those two go (more likely Ronaldo, though I still don’t see where he goes)

Listening to Ajax fans, who make a good point, Gakpo plays in a different team set up to Antony.

PSV are more of a counter attacking team, where as Ajax, are more possession based. It is why a number of our players now don't look as good, because they were better suited to a counter attacking team, rather than a possession based.

So when comparing both Antony and Gakpo, you have to take this into consideration.

Was a good analysis but we played two games of simply being outfought with no style. Our players still didn’t perform.. So I don’t think it matters.. if he can offer direct pace that will benefit us as teams aren’t sitting back for now until we earn some respect.

There are many Ajax supporters who think that Ajax is Gods gift to football, so be a bit wary when listening to some of them. ;)

What they say is partially true. In bigger matches, so in the Eredivisie mainly vs Ajax and below that Feyenoord and maybe AZ, PSV will play a bit more in a counter attacking style and have less of possession than their opponent. In many matches in the league though, they will have 60%+ possession and very much are the team on the ball.

Last League match they had 70% possession, the one before 61%. When they hammered Ajax for the Dutch super Cup, they only had 42% of the ball.

What is also an issue for me is the fact that Gakpo only had 1 standout season which was last season.

More important: He has never reached 2k minutes played in the league in any of his seasons, meaning at his best he got about 21 games in playing time out of 34 played in the Eredivisie. That is 62% of possible minutes played which was his best season statistically and playing time wise. This was last season.

With the Premier League being harder and faster, this stat is maybe the biggest red flag for me.

Highly possible I suppose and he has stated he wants more offensive options.
I do find it a bit strange as PSV will start favourites over Rangers to get Chmps League and it is a World Cup year and we all know the requirements of LVG to make his squad

Sell Rashford, get Gakpo. Could probably pay Gakpo less than half Rashford's wage & make a step toward lowering our ridiculous wage bill that Woody & Judge created.

Only reason we're buying him is the Dutch connection. He looks crap.
We can do better than Cody.

Left winger. The striker stuff is what armchair analysis fans want. Might happen, probably won’t.
Oh really.

Seems a weird one to target then, as if Antony goes for 80m or more, he's a sure starter. And in that case you'd assume Sancho plays left, with Rashford as backup.

He can't have seen anything from Rashford yet to want him as a striker

Erik has said that Rashford is central to his plans so unless Erik has a bit of Ole in him I cannot see how we would be in for this guy.
He also said the need to sign attackers was vital if we wanted success. And that’s without Ronaldo leaving. We need a minimum of 2 attackers. There’s an argument we need a 3rd if Ronaldo leaves.

I have confidence that he can become a genuine world class striker. A modern CF, and I think we have to get him while we can. He’s no natural winger at all. He’s been compared to Memphis a lot in this thread, the same PSV fans who have been pointing out that Gakpo doesn’t play CF can also tell you Memphis didn’t either. Fact is, Memphis was clearly not a natural winger, despite him playing on the left.

I wish I could see what some of you lads see in Elanga, for me that boy would play on loan for Dag&Red, and I'm not even joking. We should go all in for Gakpo if that means no more play time for Elanga.

Horrible news to wake up to. This is just throwing money away. With that money we could have signed a bloody right back, a keeper, at least someone of bigger need. This is insanity.

He could turn out to be a master stroke who knows . Didn't he win player of the year last year ? Hopefully he is a real find

Adding a talented young player to the United team is never horrible news

Can’t say I’m overwhelmed. He looks similar to Amad, who we spent 37m on and was never seen or heard from again.

Good point. Actually in his first pre-season with us Van Gaal started playing Memphis as a 10 which nobody understood. And after his poor start in the PL he did well in one game against Watford (?) around mid season playing up front, which seemed far more natural for him than dribbling from the wing.

This could be the case as well, and Gakpo has played through the middle already with the dutch NT so it wouldn't be the biggest of shocks to see this conversion.
