He was making a joke about Delaney's apparent about-face. It wasn't a serious remark. How is that sportswashing? It’s the caf’s new buzzword.

Have we seen the Abu Dhabi or Saudi’s stop City or Newcastle players from wearing LGBT logos ?Stretty News posted a transphobic opinion piece in defence of the Qatari takeover a couple of days ago, you only have to look around here to see what the promise of money has done to the fan base. The idea that the club won't be changed by a different owner ignores all of that.
Well the mass manufacture and sale of chemicals isn't great for the environment but then neither is the trillions of barrels of oil and gas either.
As far as I'm aware INEOS aren't human rights abusers though who let their workers die needlessly.
Jim Ratcliffe is miles richer than the Glazers and is also a fan of the club who is from Greater Manchester. Would be a much better solution than selling our soul to them lot
Not immediately obvious sometimes here.He was making a joke about Delaney's apparent about-face. It wasn't a serious remark.
I note that you are one of the strongest opponents of the Qatari takeover of Manchester United. But I'd like to assure you, we'll be doing a total acquisition soon.
Where I come from that looks like a veiled threat. Like me saying I can't help but notice that you're disagreeing with me, but rest assured I know you leave you back door open when you go to work.
And then you come back home to find a shit in your kettle.
Maybe, but I still think he's planning to shit in Delaney's kettle.
In real life, none of these clubs have had any of their states domestic politics imposed on them by their ownership yet, pie in the sky to speculate that that would change with United all of a sudden...Have we seen the Abu Dhabi or Saudi’s stop City or Newcastle players from wearing LGBT logos ?

And yet persecution of the LGBTQ+ community still occurs in this countries and has never prevented the increased tolerance of bigotry in the fan base. Turns out rainbow laces are a nice show of support, but not a bullet proof vest.In real life, none of these clubs have had any of their states politics imposed on them by their ownership yet.
PSG even did the rainbow lettering and numbering on their shirts a few months back during the international day against homophobia

How much responsibility does football bear for these kinds of issues though?Weirdly enough that isn't the sum expression of bigotry that affects the LGBTQ+ community in football.

Newcastle and PSG fans have become more bigoted toward the LGBTQ+ community?Weirdly enough that isn't the sum expression of bigotry that affects the LGBTQ+ community in football.

Generalisation. Some may have but that’s not a fair statement.Newcastle and PSG fans have become more bigoted to the LGBTQ+ community?
I suggest you read Adam Crafton's extensive piece on the life of homosexuals in Qatar before you wave away the LGBTQ+ communities concerns.Exactly. Check my update. People just reaching.
Well if he's such a big fan then why was he trying to buy Chelsea, also his statements need fans to sit up and take notice. I don't care about ROI only about doing whatever it takes to succeed both on and off the pitch

It’s twitter. What do you expect.Replies are interesting
Yep it is sad as 99.9% of United fans want rid of the Glazers.
The interesting thing though for me here is if Qatar weren't in the picture then I reckon the vast majority would have no objections to the Ratcliffe/INEOS bid but that wouldn't be the case if Qatar were the only ones bidding.

Clubs can really only try and police what goes on in that stands, around the stadium in match day, and to a lesser extent any online abuse were the fan is identified. How much responsibility does football bear for these kinds of issues though?
It’s just a sport at the end of the day.
Not sure if the translation is correct…
Qatar will respect our cultural values in the even they take over just as they have PSG. Same for Saudi at Newcastle etc.Clubs can really only try and police what goes on in that stands, around the stadium in match day, and to a lesser extent any online abuse were the fan is identified.
I doubt Qatar owners are suddenly going to turn a blind eye to homophobic abuse. Doubt the policy / policing will change from what it is. Unless there is a major thing that demands it like one player getting abused for 90 minutes or someone brings in an offensive banner etc
I’d imagine Newcastle have the same amount of homophobic twats as any fan group. No more no less.Generalisation. Some may have but that’s not a fair statement.
Who are these guys and what are they saying?
To say that it’s increased because of their ownership is a bit wild though.I’d imagine Newcastle have the same amount of homophobic twats as any fan group. No more no less.
He is journalist with an agenda. They are not going out seeking gay/lesbian people.I suggest you read Adam Crafton's extensive piece on the life of homosexuals in Qatar before you wave away the LGBTQ+ communities concerns.
Openly, and look at the example from Stretty NewsNewcastle and PSG fans have become more bigoted toward the LGBTQ+ community?
Yeah that’s my point. I don’t see why that would be the case. Unless he means they’ve attracted Saudi/Qatari fans to the club due to the takeover that have those views. To say that it’s increased because of their ownership is a bit wild though.
It's academic to an LGBTQ+ supporter who is the victim of it. What's clear is these ownership bids make it worse. How much responsibility does football bear for these kinds of issues though?
It’s just a sport at the end of the day.
You said their fans have become more bigoted since the takeover.Yeah that’s my point. I don’t see why that would be the case. Unless he means they’ve attracted Saudi/Qatari fans to the club due to the takeover that have those views.
He wouldn't have worded it in the way he did if he had any intention of clearing it.It's unclear if he would or not.
One of the weirdest takes in this whole discussion is that the fans will all become transphobic or anti-women's rights or start supporting flogging for stealing and adultery and what not, if they support a Qatari take over of a football club of which they are "fans" of.
You didn't even read the article. He's literally a gay journalist who went out to Qatar to meet gay people who were using dating apps to meet other gay people in secret because they couldn't do it in public. He is journalist with an agenda. They are not going out seeking gay/lesbian people.
Funny so many westerners who have worked in the ME over the past 20 plus years. You think none were gay? Where’s the complaint of persecution ( once they returned) ?

Amazing
