The thin-skinned reaction to The Athletic poll not being the result some people wanted is telling. If you can't handle criticism or questions about where the money comes from, you perhaps shouldn't be begging for it.

How can I take a poll seriously by a journalist writing this? How is that not subtle racism and agenda in their journalism? This is disgusting, their true coulours are showing. Stereotyping arabs.

The reference is to this photo of Newcastle fans celebrating their own state takeover.

That literally already happened in Newcastle. How is suggesting that also might happen in Manchester being racist?!?

He's actually suggesting that it's hard to see United fans doing it, as if they were different to Newcastle fans.

I don't think it's a racist paragraph, but it's an odd and unnecessary one. Which is keeping in line with Luckhurst as a journalist.

https://www.redcafe.net/threads/samuel-luckhurst-should-he-be-fired.430164/

Not only a xenophobe, he is also an awful human being, he accused Fabrice Muamba of faking death, who actually died.

Isn't he just trying to say that it's disrespectful / in bad taste to leave flowers for someone who is still alive at that moment

I don't read any of that as him accusing him of faking his death, but that you shouldn't leave flowers for someone still fighting for his life (which he was at that time)

Can't see the original tweet but judging by the response it looks like he made some pretty dicey tweets. Fair enough. That still doesn't make this recent article racist.
To be fair he deleted it for a reason

The Qataris obviously wouldn't be the silent owners you long for as their entire interest in bribing their way into World Cup and buying United is to expand the global brand of their tiny, island, natural gas created nation state, which means we are more likely to see a replication of our version of Messi hugging the " football lovin' " Emir of Qatar at the WC trophy presentation than the anonymous, behind the scenes type ownership most would feel appropriate.
Don’t understand this. Sales of Bish went up in Argentina the Argentinians didn’t really care, its only the British media that dedicated pages and pages of articles and hours & hours of airtime about how “They stole Messi’s moment” and funnily enough did what they accused Qatar of doing by focusing on that and not and not WC win for Argentina

He thinks non local united supporters are worth less as supporters. Such an arrogant opinion to alienise hundred of millions of united supporters. When I read his comment I felt disgusted. Why does he think he is worth more than any other supporter? because he goes to the matches to the stadium 10km from where he lives?

I have to spare money every year to travel to the UK to attend one or two matches at OT and it costs me a fortune (folds more than what a local pay for a season ticket) for only two matches not to forget the amount of money we pay for TV to watch the games. This type of opinions is arrogant and condescending, its disgusting.

At the same time though, to be fair, you don’t seem to give much of a feck about what local hardcore fans might think (if they indeed do think that; which you don’t seem interested in finding out)… If it could be proved to your satisfaction that a majority of them - those that have followed the club everywhere, protested the Glazers for 20 years and have a local connection to the club formed in Manchester by railway workers - had a genuine problem with their club becoming the plaything of a Royal Family half the world away, would it affect your opinion of the takeover? Or your relish to see it happen?

‘cos if not, I’d argue it’s a lot more arrogant for you to swing in with your 2 games a year and tell them they should suck it because their opinion is worth less than a Twitter poll of 14 year olds

Now I don’t actually know the matchgoing fanbase are wholely against it. I’d imagine they’re split, and the vast majority will suck it up, just as I agree that when all is said and done, most people will. But it’s heartbreaking that any passionate local fans of a club that was at least at one point nominally created for them, might feel they have to wrench themselves away on their principles. I respected those that did it with the Glazers, and I’ll respect those that do it now. I won’t have any respect for the dickheads who laugh at them. Wherever they’re from.

You sound like the reasonable person everyone should listen to. Completely unbiased.

Oh, wait. You're not, you're just angry because you lack the capacity to create an argument without insults.

And calling people thin-skinned when these so-called journalists display clear bias when it's their supposed job to at least attempt to be objective.

Snide little remarks like the one from Luckhurst just demonstrate the thinly veiled bias and xenophobia that people just love closing their eyes to.

So I say to you, if you cannot handle the opinion of others and moreover if you cannot argue against it without insults, you're a bloody hypocrite.

skepticism is healthy - but remember, nobody will be able to generate the type of money needed to buy United in a clean and ethical manner. Even the Norwegian Oil Fund isn't squeaky clean

I think the majority of us would want squeaky clean billionaire owners, not linked to any form of human rights abuses or any dodgy dealings but it's just not realistic.

For all the talk of the soul being sucked out of the club if we end up with Middle Eastern oil/gas money, I think we are all forgetting that WE are the soul of this club. The fans, community in Manchester and further afield, have been with this club the whole journey - Newton Heath to today.

New owners cannot wipe out the history of Manchester United - that's the difference between us and City. It was the difference between Chelsea and us when Roman took them over too. We have much more to us than success on the pitch and that can't be taken away.

Whatever outcome this brings, we will be free of the leech Glazer family and have an owner who is willing to invest to bring the success back to the club.
Dictator owners will set aside all history.

They want to show themselves in the stadium, show that they are the club. If the purchase is approved, the club is theirs.

We can argue as much as we want about history, but history is made as time passes. Dictator owners will destroy ours. Everything we gain after such a takeover can be attributed to dictator money. It hurts the heart.

Crikey. I wish we could sticky posts.

Really don’t want Bin Salmon a murderer & tyrant and a nation at war, committing huge war crimes, against Yemen buying United.

That just stinks of hypocrisy. If Roman was forced to sell Chelsea, no Saudi billionaire should be allowed to buy United until the war against Yemen is over.

From a footballing perspective this would be the worst option as there's a fear the private investors would want us to play second fiddle to fecking Newcastle.

Did you type that with a straight face.

Your post went downhill after the first sentence. I think Luckhurst is a terrible journalist, but I've already addressed your misdirected racism comments, as did @Pogue Mahone. If you want to explain to me why Laurie Whitwell, the source of everyone handing out polls like Opera Winfey this morning, is racist, I'm all ears.

The Athletic poll was started a few weeks ago and it's clearly been United fans that have mostly taken part in it. As I pointed out, if it was hijacked by rival fans then 98% wouldn't be voting for a full takeover and for the Glazers to go. It's a fecking opinion poll done by subscribers to that site and people are treating it as some big conspiracy against Qatar. It's all very bizarre.

Oh pipe down. Again this is a football club, not a platform to constitute world peace.

On what planet would anyone buy Manchester United for £5 or £6B to be used as some sort of B lister behind Newcastle!?

I can see the worry, but it might also mean they know there is only so much they can do with Newcastle and made a mistake buying them. Isn't the one who bought them also supposed to be a fan of us. We might not like some of the candidates, but it is lovely knowing so many think we still important after the media trying to brainwash us into think we aren't.

Well can’t the mods to a Redcafe one. We will get a good feel of if it’s rigid or not.

Between Qatari and Radcliffe (+ banks), I would choose Qatari all day long.

Between Saudis and Radcliffe (+ banks), I would choose Saudi all day long.

Between insert_x_not_banks and Radcliffe (+ banks), I will choose insert_x_not_banks.

I would honestly prefer keeping the fecking Glazers, to another bank-financed takeover. The last thing we need is Austerity 2.0.

But gosh a Qatari posting the United badge looks good. The passion and pride they’ll have… to them it’ll be like our Crown Jewels, only they bought it for £5b

Just to be clear because this is even more baffling to me. You don’t want Saudi Arabia taking over because of morals but will happily have Qatar?

They are very different nations and each have issues that I disagree with; but I don’t think many people will feel the same as you. You are willing to cheerlead a Qatari bid but would be disgusted at a Saudi bid?

I don't want the Saudi's regardless

But I think it would be the reverse and the "private investors" would actually be controlled by their superiors and they'd focus on United, not Newcastle.

If only the Qataris had known about the poll weeks ago, they could've hired an army of online football fans to vote for them, just as they hired battalions of south Asian fans at the beginning of the WC.

I think you've missed his point. He isn't saying we shouldn't want new or more competent owners. He's disagreeing with the fans who specifically want state owners, because we're one of the few clubs on the planet in a position to compete with state-backed clubs without being a state-backed club.

Which makes it odd for anyone to be desperate for state ownership anyway. As your last paragraph suggests, all we need to be competitive is for the club's own resources to be used correctly and not leeched.

I think the people desperate for state ownership, and I don't include myself in that category, I'm just ok with it and desperate for the Glazers to leave, there's not a lot of billionaires in the world with 6bn cash lying around. Whether it's true that ratcliffe would use our profits to pay off debts or not, you can't blame people on here for running a mile when hearing someone is going to be taking on debt to buy the club, it's just a natural reaction after what we've all seen. If we had another offer who could buy us for cash that would be preferable but who has that bar states? Even musk and Bezos have most of their wealth in stocks and unlikely to have 6bn liquid, maybe musk could if he sold Tesla stocks but then he has a big tax bill and really who wants musk running the show

It wasn't started weeks ago, was done in the last week. Unless it wasn't advertised heavily until this week.
