He’s not ‘covering’ to be fair. He has football conversations, and this is one of them, in an interview. Only these online children place this silly demand on him to ‘say something nobody has said before’ or he’s a con artist.

I’m very curious as to what it would take for this petty ‘Romano is a con artist who makes things up’ thing to stop. He’s very clearly a very highly connected and highly respected journalist, who has passed on an uncountable amount of exclusive information in his time. He’s apparently never allowed to speak on something he didn’t tweet first otherwise he’s ‘looking for a tap in’. It’s incredibly childish, you would think he was some teenager in his bedroom the way people talk about him, not one who has open conversations with leading agents and clubs all the time.

Jesus cheer up mate I just mentioned he has no clue on the matter and I'm pretty sure he has none. He might be good connected to some agents but I'm sure he has no insight in a mutli billion M&A transaction.

They're good but they do some speculative single source stories too. I've got a couple of friends who work there.
Depends on who their source is. Point is, they are for business reporting what the BBC would be for transfer reporting. They will not rubber stamp this without ensuring they have solid proof to back it up.

Qatari investors are set to make an offer for Manchester United Plc in the coming days, people familiar with the matter said, in a move that would cement the country’s desire to become a major player in global sports.

The Qatari consortium is preparing to submit an initial bid for the English Premier League football club by the end of the week, the people said. Officials at sovereign wealth fund the Qatar Investment Authority are helping with preparations for a bid alongside local family offices, one of the people said, asking not to be identified discussing confidential information.

New York bank Raine Group is advising Manchester United’s owners, the US-based Glazer family.

Manchester United has been the subject of increasing takeover speculation since the summer, when Bloomberg News reported the Glazer family was open to selling a stake. So far, only British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe has officially declared his interest and is working with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. on a potential offer
.
Bloomberg News reported in January that state-backed Qatari investors were weighing an investment in Manchester United.

Qatar Sports Investments, a separate entity to QIA, already owns French super-club Paris Saint-Germain FC. Regulations from European football’s governing body, UEFA, state that teams with the same majority owner can’t both compete in the region’s major tournaments, including the showpiece Champions League. QSI chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi is also a member of the UEFA Executive Committee that adopts its regulations.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the ruling emir of Qatar, is a Manchester United fan and unlikely to want to let slip the chance to own what is widely regarded as one of the world’s biggest sports brands.

Deliberations are ongoing and no final decisions have been taken about which Qatari entities will ultimately provide capital for the Manchester United bid, the people said. A spokesperson for QIA declined to comment, while a representative for QSI wasn’t immediately available for comment.

Adam Sommerfeld, a sport investment specialist at Certus Capital, has estimated that any offer for Manchester United would need to exceed £4 billion ($4.8 billion) to be successful. That would make it one of the largest ever deals involving a sporting franchise.

Qatar spent more than $200 billion during the past decade redeveloping the country’s infrastructure to host the FIFA World Cup. Alongside building new stadiums and entire municipalities, it also bought sports assets. As well as the takeover of PSG, QSI has a stake Portuguese football club SC Braga.

Qatar seem very confident if they’re letting the media know before the deadline. Every potential huddle and speed bump has been mapped out from their end no doubt.

transfer rumours is gonna be absolutely insane this summer if Qatar buy us
If a Qatari group buys United, I wouldn't expect anything too crazy to happen with transfers this summer. I don't think they'll throw around silly money (or attempt to) on transfers until they're bedded in.

This is why I won’t believe it until it’s 100% done and dusted and the new owners are standing in OT. Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if these parasites cling onto the club and continue sucking us dry. Worst case scenario is they price the Qatari’s out of a move and instead they travel down the road and buy Liverpool for half the price.

FFS just cannot contemplate that happening

I couldn't choose. Probably depends on the state. The guy is very much on top of my hate list. The incel leader and shit stirrer.
The guy keeps the company of Murdoch and the Saudis at the world cup, anyone saying he's better than Qatar is just displaying xenophobic bias in my opinion.

If you’re Ten Hag what do you do? Is it still the Napoli player or do you get Kane because feck sell on fees and years left at the top now?
He left Ajax and knew he had a massive job on his hands but 6 months into the season it cold become stupidly easier.

Add his recent track record with Twitter. You'd have to be absolutely stupid if you want him anywhere near the club.

Musk and the Saudis vs Becks and Qatar vs local boy Jim.

At this point this man’a name is just being repeatedly used without base. There’s been no mention anywhere of Beckham being involved with this but loads of fans seem to have just attached him to Qatar for some reason.

Yeah, there is way too much smoke about Qataris now. If they are serious about it, and it certainly looks to be the case, they will get it. Now just have to wait until our megastore starts selling robes for a 100% confirmation.

This just makes me sad for Manchester United. The Glazer family have done irreperable damage to his club.

I’m really not buying this idea it’s a cheat mode. Chelsea just spent 600m in 4 months. Newcastle are still backed by Saudi Arabia. City still have huge funds and one of the greatest managers of all time. The competition is insane and there is zero guarantee we sign the right players.

The more I think about it, if Qataris buy a controlling interest but still keep the Glazers in place as minority shareholders, it could suit both parties.

Any links with PSG can be quashed as they keep Glazers the face of Utd.

Glazers get to take their dividends and keep the prestige of association with Man Utd.

Meanwhile Qataris sell off PSG and rebuild OT. Over the course of the next 5-10 years they buy out the remaining stock from the Glazers and become full owners of Utd.

You won't have to worry about any of that because they are buying the club.

The only state bid that would be acceptable to me would be one from the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund. But that’s only in the context of rival bids from just Norway and either Qatar or Saudi Arabia.

I think state ownership of football clubs should be banned. Even leaving aside the ethical issues with ME ownership, there’s simply no risk or jeopardy involved with it. Success would be more or less guaranteed…but the meaning would be stripped away!

The Bloomberg report is as close to a 'here we go' moment as we've seen so far.

3 serious journalists have put their name to it so it's definitely real.

Just because you want it to happen, doesn’t mean it will happen.

Ratcliffe isn’t going to outbid parties like Qatar or Saudis anyway, so it’s all moot. He’s small time compared and the Glazers will sell to the person with the biggest penis/pair of boobs.
Likewise just because you want the oil money doesn’t mean that will happen either. Could easily be a third US party or the like. We don’t know until next week earliest.

Man United are different though. If we spend 600m we are spending it on better quality than Chelsea. We took the worlds best DM from the reigning CL winners and inserted him into a EL side that will probably go out in a second round play off tie.
Even unlocking our own transfer funds is a cheat code. That’s really all it takes.
Chelsea basically took who they wanted if they wanted a move to England. Give that, and more, to Ten Hag and God knows what side we’d be looking at today. It’s at least FDJ in midfield, we wouldn’t have two loan signings to cover for injuries and have an actual striker up top instead of trying to manage Ronaldo we would have let him go.
That’s this season alone.

WE are in the ENDGAME now.
I have a feeling Qataris arent going to make a low ball offer, I think theyll make an offer that simply forces it through, there is far too much noise here.

Qatar will be good for us. I really can’t wait to see what ETH and co can cook up with a fat budget and the best facilities. Even next summer Bellingham and a striker would push this team back into contention. Longer term the midfield still needs major work and DDG needs replacing but things are really starting to look up for us again.

“Some reason” - Probably the 100m he got this summer to shill for them during the World Cup?
Ah, he was a WC ambassador so he is a part of a bid to take over Manchester United. Perhaps Ronaldo we should also just assume Ronaldo as part of the Saudi bid. As I said, this has been mentioned nowhere relevant, we should probably not be including his name in prospective ownership conversations surely.
