From the bloke who wants people who support the Qatar bid to burn in hell.
Can't make this shit up.

I know this thread defines seriousness but I have a feeling he was going against the grain and being just a little less serious than we are accustom to in here.

Bristol City is my local team that my dad took me to as a kid and I have it on my profile in his honour. Why what has that got to do with anything I have said?

Had a totally different meaning when I was a kid, but you were probably expecting that...;) Just remembered you beat us twice in 74/74. Only team to do the league double over us.

You said we and your profile states you support Bristol City, maybe change that to include United and then the we makes sense

Yeah I know but very different to owing an external party. Hence the joke of state owned cubs who can self sponsor, self finance and generally kill any whiff of football being competitive.
I don't disagree. I'm just pushing back on the notion that anyone has 6B laying around. Whatever this phony foundation is setup by SJ will finance the takeover with debt regardless if it's damn near 0 interest.

1946. This thread has now reached the 'post-war period' but there are still a few snipers lurking about ready to take a pot shot. Mind how you go.

The Nuremberg Trials are in full swing though (no pun intended). Oh, and William Joyce - Lord Haw-Haw was hanged for treason. The legality of that hanging is still a subject of controversy today.

They'd just owe themselves

They would but that in itself also carries risks which again, we have all seen happen recently. It may be highly unlikely but it's still something to consider.

A change in geo politics could result in individuals, companies or entire States being sanctioned for example. Qatar is in a very volatile place, placed directly in the path for several of the world's most vital commodities. What appear to be amicable, even friendly relations now may not be tomorrow.

I will stress I think this is highly unlikely before someone tries to claim otherwise. But after the Chelsea debacle it's something I have thought puts certain clubs at risk more than others.

Yeah I think many on here just think debt = bad regardless of where it is from or what it is attached to.

On a positive note, we are now into the era of British culinary exceptionalism.

I'm not sure about this to be honest - City's owners are supporting the Russian invasion of Ukraine, can't do much worse to get sanctioned.

That's a vague sentence, and if it's what I'm assuming it means, I don't buy it. If Qatar offered to wipe the debt and invest billions in infrastructure and transfers but said the Glazers would retain a small, non-voting, minority stake would you be against the bid? No need to wriggle around to answer than one.
Personally I would still be against the bid yes. The club needs to move on and start a new era, a clean slate. I struggle to see a situation where a bidder who could afford to do the above would need to keep the glazers on but if we are playing hypotheticals then no I wouldn’t want them. potential owner knows how much they are hated. The only scenario would be if that was the only bid though and the alternative was the Glazers staying in full control but we aren’t there.

Edit. I have run out of daily posts so can’t answer your last post but on the off chance you might read this I am going to add it here

Probably not but he knows how much the glazers are hated by the fans and he created an opportunity for them to stay. That’s the issue. If you want the club and you are a fan then buy the club outright and get rid of them. I understand why a number of fans prefer Ratcliffe and that’s fair enough but what I struggle with is the pretending the JS supporters want a sugar daddy and that’s the only reason.

The Korean war is not far away, then there's the Vietnam and 2 Gulf wars to get thru!

I think it would probably have to descend into a conflict involving these States and even then, Saudi are involved in one now, though it's more of an extermination than an actual fight so it's a high bar no doubt.

Something like Saudi and Qatar going to war would probably be the level needed. Unlikely but not impossible. Especially as both seem to have the thinnest of skin according to some posters.

Jim lost my support after all his praise of the Glazers.

He's trying to do business with them by buying the club. You think he should slate them? To be fair I think he's played it all very well. He's not been as outspoken as Qatar, which I bet will rub the Glazers up the wrong way by shining a light on their running of the club. I think this is the exact reason Ratcliffe has kept his cards close to his chest with regards to his plans and tried to do a deal in private. To be it has been clear which party is better at business, has a bit of class about them and therfore may be a good fit for running this club.

If you are on the board, you are a part of the decision making. If the Glazers are completely out of the loop I'll gladly support our new owner, whoever it is. But I will never trust an owner that keeps the people who brought us ruin on the board.
Why is he using debt if he’s that rich? Why is he not buying th glazers out but offering them a way to stay on?

I keep repeating this, but if the Glazers take Ratcliffes offer then the answer is very simple, they didn't want to sell. Its right there in front of you! So in that case, then it is safe to say that we were not getting a completely glazer free club just yet, and that Ratcliffe buying the club was actually the best outcome we could have got from this whole process. At that point we all have to pray that he's going to sort the club out. We know the Glazers weren't, so it's better than the alternative.

Back to the takeover, I do think there possibly is something in the idea that the delay is because they are ensuring there is no or limited scope for a legal challenge from A class shareholders. Whether that's ensuring their position is legally sound or negotiating with them.

If Qatar was the favourable option for them, then I think they would have accepted it, or more likely given them exclusivity. They would still be able to negotiate a higher price if that is the aim but I can't breallybsee any other reason why they would delay things if Qatar was the one.

I'm probably wrong and not even willing to back myself by claiming what I would do if I was a betting man. But if someone had a gun to my head, that would be my opinion.

Of course the delay could just be that Qatar doesn't even exist yet and that's what they are waiting for.

This thread is just hilarious. Still not sure if in a bad way or good way but I do wonder if half of the people in here ever leave the house and speak to people in the way they post? I feel that'd make great entertainment.
