Club Sale | It’s done!

5.5 billion for the leeches shares and to buy the other 31% will probably make it 8 billion.
Yep that’s what they’ve wanted during these last 4 weeks and that’s the bare minimum they will accept

AT&T Stadium is a very impressive stadium, but I hate them Cowboys. They are the only team I have ever heard 'This year is our year' from more than bloody Liverpool!

Also as a 9ers fan I can't stand them.

Wasn't the £6bn+ valuation from them saying the Washington Commanders (ugh can't get used to that name yet) were sold for that price?

The Commanders, or the Commies as I like to call them around my Trump loving neighbors, are being sold for $6bn which is less than 5M sterling. The NFL also has a salary cap and a Collective Bargaining Agreement that effectively guarantees every club will make hundreds of millions in profit every season, it is a literal money making machine.

The Glazers continue to be deluded about the true value of their "asset". Most would accept that it is in a fairly distressed state with at least 2bn needed for infrastructure improvements in addition to any spending on the playing squad. Factor in the lack of guaranteed revenue through needing to qualify for lucrative tournaments and the current high interest rate environment which makes borrowing for Stadium development etc. prohibitive and they are insane to turn down anything even close to 5bn. There is just as good a chance that if they hold on for another couple of seasons the price will halve rather than go up.

This is a realistic scenario.
I know that some people think that announcement is imminent. I don't believe that for one second.
I'm not sure that the club will even get sold - if it does, then it might be next Summer.
The Glazers will drag this out for as long as possible. Remember, if they hang on for another year, they'll make more money (dividends) during that year AND there are likely to be higher bids.
Waiting for another year is a winning situation for them.
If you look into what minority investment actually means, you’ll soon come to the opinion that it’s almost completely infeasible that the Glazers would opt for it when they already have a premium offer sitting on their desk.

It comes with so much risk.

The most worrying thing about this though is that it includes the 6 people who probably should know something

Logic says Qatar. Shitshow parasite greedfest says anything could happen.

Like an average guy desparate for a super model girlfriend. Which, for me, questions his loyalty to united. At the same time, it is desparately sad that one of the UKs richest guys cannot buy one of the UKs most famous assets. It says more about the decline of the UK than it does of SJR.
Excellent summary.

SJR tried to buy Chelsea and Barcelona before? He’s the Arsene Wenger of club owners

He might as well be the UKs poorest man. He isn't even bidding for the entire club and still doesn't want to put any of his own money into it

I am not so convinced that he cannot buy it, rather than simply having a very fixed amount he and INEOS are willing to spend up front on acquiring the ownership stake.

Of course, if it were truly the case of an all-out bidding war between them and the 92F Qatari consortium (presuming they are state-backed), there would only be one winner there, but that would be the case for almost anyone going toe to toe against the Qataris.

So was Ratcliffe just looking at this as a long term cash cow like the Glazers? Its an expensive hobby.

They’ve already produced reports that the share dividends payouts have decreased by 600% at the third quarters financial reports just before the AGM. This means taking any dividends next year with a continued operating loss would be very difficult to justify, the minority share holders have already called for a vote of no confidence about 3/4 weeks ago.

They could drag it out, however if the rumoured 5th bid said to be £5.2/5.5bn - the debt at £535m just for the Glazers to relinquish contro is a £4.7-5bn payment just for the 6 Glazers is true which is $6bn +, to hold out for more is hugely risky and both the Rothchilds and The Raine Group have probably told them to accept, hence the recent confidence of SJ and 92 Foundation. Personally I think there’s more posturing in the next two weeks but by then we will either have SJ wining or The Glazers staying with minority investors.

Management thinking, they cannot, in part, because they haven't.

Let's not presume posibilties one and no posibilties the other when it's unknown..

i cannot help but wonder what SJR/INEOS was/is doing. Bidding for club after club like there is no loyalty left me cold towards them.

You can also add that any stadiums/infrastructure are usually funded by the state. Or at least a large chunk of the cost.

The glazers really should just go and buy another american sports team because even with their incompetency, they couldn't feck it up.

Clearly looking to invest in a major club as part of his wider investment in sports.

Bit of an exaggeration to suggest he's going randomly asking clubs if he can buy them. Opportunities opened up and he explored them and made offers.

Don't really know much about the Barcelona one but with Chelsea, it was a last minute thing while with United, it's clearly a more considered approach with fairly well known long-term interest from Ratcliffe.

It's also no different to the Qataris, who already own one club and have previously been interested in other clubs, including Liverpool. Does that leave you cold as well?

All the players going to Saudi Arabia really make it apparant that you need lots of money to compete. Players joining clubs due to tradition, integrity and passion is a thing of the past. Football has been going this way for a long time now. I can understand why people want Qatar in. The football I grew up with is dead. Going to take a while to get used to this new era.

My credible sources say there's a strong rumour the minority shareholders have written to the board demanding they sell to Qatar. For what it's worth.

I think they should be tortured until they sign the club over. Nothing too drastic mind, a bit of branding, the loss of a few toes, maybe a bit of amateur dentistry.

You're asking me whether I am prepared to contrast your speculation with fact, that isn't happening. SJ, to my knowledge hasn't attempted to buy any other club. As for suggestion I am exaggerating and random bidding on clubs, you're making that up, I never wrote anything like that.

Qatar. Though in your defence I recall you being one of the few who still believe it's a private bid.

And I think "bidding for club after club" reads suspiciously like an exaggeration.

Gotta admire your persistence in defending Jimmy.
You should ask to get paid at least.

Been away for work the past week. Saw the Bloomberg news about Qatar being confident the deal is going to win. Presume the glazers have leaked something about Jim or them staying?

Just want this done with now. So bloody boring

I don’t think any announcement is imminent but I think there has to be a resolution before the season starts, even if it’s just an agreement in principle.

One thing this process has proven is there aren’t people queuing up to buy United, if they don’t sell now there’s no guarantee they get offered the same next year. I’m not convinced they’d be able to take dividends and even if they did it’s small change in comparison. They are going to milk every last drop but I’d be shocked if they don’t sell to one of Qatar/INEOS.

Fairly low effort stuff. Doesn't take much to counter half of the things people manifest in their heads.

The irony of a guy named Nick Speed covering this sale is a bit amusing

Quick question for those in the thread - do anyone of you actually think this isnt getting done or are you just wishing it would be announced? It seems clear its Qatars. Anyone actually think its not agreed?

Again; you're making things up, at least your post admits, perhaps admits, it's your speculation rather than my views.

Edited: did you state

Given the lack of evidence of a Qatar bid, the irony is quite amusing.

What's going on with the thread title? Took me ages to find the thread. Can we not just call it 'Club Sale Updates'?

I think Joel and Avram are holding out for more money for themselves personally by one means or another purely cos they are greedy scumbags, but the other Glazers, Qatar and SJR will all tell them get fekked and they will fold and sell to Qatar because they don't have a better option. How long it takes is hard to say.

I'm pretty sure it will get done but beyond that, I have no idea. I've long since learned to regard any and all reports as speculation and nothing else. That's regardless of source because whether it's some random on Twitter or highly respected outlets like Reuters and Bloomberg.

When something substantial does happen, the first reports will be followed up fairly quickly by official statements from either United, the winning bidder, Raine or the NYSE. There won't be any "sources close to x" but rather a fairly short, direct statement.

As this has been discussed to death multiple times in the thread I'll save everyone the pain of kicking it off again.
