Reuters won't run this without ironclad sources. My guess is Glazers don't want to rule out Brexit Jim making another offer.

Eh, they’ve been caught publishing Russian propaganda over the last few months so I wouldn’t be so confident. They’re not what they once were.

No? Have you read the article? There’s not a lot there to misinterpret.

Well they haven't been granted it yet have they.?At least initially they have rejected Qatar's request for exclusivity. Are negotiations still ongoing? Probably. I had Paddock on in the background and they slowly realised that this interpretation of the Reuturs article is correct too. They suddenly got so annoyed about it which was quite funny.

When it comes to business transactions involving football clubs, I only trust Bloomberg. Hence I don't believe stories like Avram and Joel wanting to stay or Ratcliffe is winning due to his offer being better overall.

So take everything with a pinch of salt until we get something from Bloomberg or FT.

For this particular Reuters article, it was written by their editor in chief in charge of US M&A in New York. There is no doubt his sources come from the banking side On Wall Street. It also highlights that none of the sports journos have a clue because they don’t have those contacts.

Jim Brexit is someone who has a track record of mainly running clubs poorly, the achievements of Nice started badly and went downhill from there.

*The anti-Qatar posters* - ‘Whooo… whoooo do you think you are?’
 lovely stuff. Not my words, rhyme animal, but the words of shakin sheikh Jassim.

It seems you haven't read it. Reuters say exclusivity has NOT been granted (at least not yet, anyway). Here:

"The sources cautioned that the situation remained fluid and a new bid from Ratcliffe could prevent Sheikh Jassim from securing exclusivity."

Where has it said it’s been rejected?

Because we are allegedly skint, we potentially have new rich owners and have form for pissing money up the wall. The benefits of Qatari ownership are non existent if they aren’t going to throw their own money at it. Which is currently against the rules.
We've got £100m to spend before selling players. We aren't skint.

They are fecked now, it's been discussed in the media and on here that they need to sell and that they are hamstrung by FFP because of how stupidly they spent last summer.

Yes, but we're a bigger club than Chelsea, with higher revenues, and I'm not wctually suggesting spending 600m, just that we won't be limited to 100m

What’s that got to do with my post?

It was a sad day when the Glazers were allowed to buy us and bury us with debt.
Yes, and how ironic was it that 18 years later that very same ownership that undertook the leveraged buyout voted to ensure it could not happen again.

Again: How do you come up with this conclusion? There's no point negotiating the terms of exlusivity if one party doesn't want to grant it.

The journalist who wrote the Reuters story seems very well informed on M&A and regularly reports on deals much larger than this one. I'd trust him.
The journalist almost certainly didn't make it up. Unlike football journalism, that's not how you make your name in business journalism. My guess would be that he was briefed by Raine.

This has been the case for months though, the entire bidding process has been to gain exclusivity, if reuters are running a story, it means something has changed and it likely isn't far off

Kinda silly to immediately compare us to a club with 115 charges against them though. The closest thing to City is PSG and they arent that "evil". So these predetermined "club is ruined" is very premature and baseless. The take over process hasnt even ended!

The case of City is kind messed up, it's reminiscent of cases like Calciopoli or other high profile messes with Dinamo Zagreb and others. And no PSG aren't the closest thing to City, PSG infractions are run of the mill infractions and open that only concerns the UEFA, City are suspected of fraud.

This seems to make more sense than other posts, especially mine, hope you're right.

it’s a massive presumption to suggest they’d need to cheat to be successful. We already have massive revenues, we don’t need fake sponsors.

this is partly why we’re going to cost $6b+ and not a few hundred million.
They have the finances to cheat in order to get there. The risk is gone. That in turn means the joy is impacted

Who did you get this from? You got some inside sources at united? Hopefully it's not the same journalists who said that Ratcliffe was about to be announced as the preferred bidder a month ago

You know we're a publicly listed company?

No the bidding process was to buy our football club. Now it seems the Glazers have a clear favourite and are negotiating the terms of exclusivity. Some of you are getting desperate.

They are fecked now, it's been discussed in the media and on here that they need to sell and that they are hamstrung by FFP because of how stupidly they spent last summer.

It's why they were also handing out 8+ year contracts. That's not an option anymore.

I've been busy with Px, have I missed owt in the last couple of hours?
Reuters report suggests Qatar is negotiating or close to exclusivity. It’s pretty misleading and fits a pattern of Raine using the media to add jeopardy and force Inesos this time to up their bid.

Suggests Qatar is leading now, but it's not over yet.

You could also argue that it was unfair to be bought in a fully leveraged deal that saddled the club with debt. Especially now that there are new rules preventing that from happening to other clubs
Unlucky more than unfair.

Youve been on a roll in this thread, great post putting into words what everyone against this feels. It's tainted. All the pride, happiness, joy - it's all tainted with them because even on the odd 1% chance it isn't true, everyone will believe it's true, just as you say for City. Who the feck actually wants that?

people will insist they don’t care, but will spend an inordinate time in the upcoming years complaining about people not treating us with respect, or mentioning our owners every time we achieve anything (as we insist the media should with City) or arguing with any United fan that can still be bothered to point out their hypocrisy.

You’re getting what you want. That’s the trade off. Tough. Deal with it.

Where has it said it’s been rejected?

Ben Jacobs said his sources firmly deny any party being granted exclusivity. Reuters only say that Qatar are negotiating for it with United. Exclusivity has clearly not been granted yet. This is all consistent. The point being it's not really much of an update it's just worded to confuse people.

You know we're a publicly listed company?

Last summer we were told the budget was 100m, we spent 250m. And don't remember any significant sales. Forgive me if i don't pay attention to the same stories. Weren't we told the Glazers cleared the 200m credit facility? So we can't use that towards our signings?

Who did you get this from? You got some inside sources at united? Hopefully it's not the same journalists who said that Ratcliffe was about to be announced as the preferred bidder a month ago

That's how amortization and FFP work. And you are the one who talked about 100m.

I can't imagine there will be another turn so it seems very likely that SJ's bid has won. It doesn't feel great, but I do hope they'll just plaster their logo on the kit and leave us mostly alone but considering how they run PSG that seems very unlikely.

debt free club:drool:

Yes and to buy the club they'd have to be granted exclusivity. So reuters aren't running a story to say the same thing that's been going on for months is still going on. Clearly Qatar have had a breakthrough and exclusivity is close
