They seem to be going through the stages of grief. Most still stuck on denial though at the moment. Some moved on to anger already!
So just to get this straight, BBC and others leak news that's one month old that Nassir tried to get the deal done, and Glazers asked him to increase his bid, to which he denied.

And from that you got optimism that Qatar are in a stronger position the race today?

How is that, and also why are you so obsessed with dick comparing @Castia ans @Berbaclass?

The BBC article which says the meeting took place 4 weeks ago to get them to up the bid includes this wonderful line: “It is privately being claimed the conversation did not work as the bid for a full takeover was not increased.”

They’ve upped it twice since then ffs

The conversation with Nasser took place a month ago, by the way. So nothing to do with the recent bid. Reported on BBC website.
Just read the article on the BBC Sport website, it's click bait stuff from some of journalists, they were expecting something bigger today but instead they have pushed some story out failing to mention it happened over a month ago

A discussion on what is the best pudding. Is mutton/lamb better than beef and pies are a dessert in the US. Oh and the Glazers have gone behind everybodies back to the owner of PSG to give SJ a kick up the backside.
And that was a great discussion, we need to continue it :)

This is such a fecking weird stance to take....really, really, really odd
Oh, indeed. This coming from the guy that was crowing about Verstappen being gifted that world title, as if it was his dad that had won.

Glass houses and all that.

He's irrelevant. Qatar just hasn't agreed on a price with the Glazers yet. He's a stalking horse

You keep saying this but if he offers them more they will take his offer.

You seem to think the Glazers are desperate to see us in Qatari hands. I don't think they care one but who wins as long as they get what they want.

They know who has more money and it isn't Ratcliffe. They literally went to Nasser to beg for more.

Manchester United's owners spoke to Paris St-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi a month ago in an effort to get Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani to increase his bid for the club.

It is privately being claimed the conversation did not work as the bid for a full takeover was not increased.
He’s made two bids since!
Don’t think they be asking for an increased
Offer if they didn’t want a full sale so there’s still that

...what? Do you have me confused with someone else?

It was this click bait which triggered it, it's behind a paywall so doubt many people actually read it.

Some people have been so mentally dominated by City that they can't envision any future beyond us being owned by an oil state. It's tragic. We can be so much better than them, both on and off the field. We don't have to turn into City to beat City.
There are only three possibilities on the table though:

1) Go with Jim Ratcliffe - who bought a mid table French team and turned them into… erm… a mid table French team. Oh and his Swiss team have been relegated twice in 6 years under his tenure. Therefore major question marks over his ability to guide United to footballing success.
2) Go with Qatar, who also bought a mid table French club, but turned them into Champions League finalists and the dominant team in the country.
3) Stay with the Glazers, whose only success at the club was at the tail end of the greatest manager of all time’s reign and were swiftly found out as soon as Sir Alex retired. We haven’t, can’t and won’t ever compete with City under them.

There are no other bids. Qatar are the only credible option on the table that can elevate us above City on the pitch again.

As for being better off the pitch, yes there are obviously the human rights issues. Same as City. But the alternative is a Brexit supporter who then abandoned the country to become a tax excile in Monaco. Someone whose company is responsible for catastrophic environmental pollution and also invests heavily in countries with terrible human rights issues no different to Qatar. Someone who has made a deal with the devil and is in bed with the Glazers to acquire the club despite the strong views of the fans. So let’s not pretend getting Ratcliffe some sort of moral victory, it’s really not.

We all just need clarity.
One way or another, by next midweek, I hope we know what happened to this Qatari bid.
If they’ve pulled out because Glazers take the piss, at least we know it’s between Glazers staying or INEOS comes in (with Glazer partial stay). If we don’t hear any news, then I take that as in they’ve accepted Qatari deal and might make advances behind the scenes to get ball rolling.

Maybe I’m being naive.

A month ago so told.

Also Ratcliffe 100% has more money than this Sheikh nobody knew existed on this forum 12 months ago. I don't think there's any doubt about this fact.

Don't think he has more than the state though which this almost certainly is a state bid.

Jimmy relegates Swiss teams, Jassim relegates Suisse banks :wenger:

That's a fair point - this story would seem to confirm that the Glazers are clearly willing to sell to Qatar at the right price. The problem for Qatar (and those who want them to win) are that they haven't managed to get to that price and, although their (smaller) bid will still stand, they are planning to disengage from the process from today, which reduces the chances of them ever securing the club quite significantly!

I do wonder what a “significant” big actually means. Such a vague term in an already vague process.

It was this click bait which triggered it, it's behind a paywall so doubt many people actually read it.

Translation: Other clubs were very comfortable with the Glazers running us into the ground and are terrified that some day soon the nightmare they had to live for 25 years might be back.

Athletic have reported the 5th bid was a significant bid.
The waiving of the deadline suggests dialogue is happening as we speak since I was told on here that they knew they were beat so were making up excuses to step away today.
Looks like that wasn’t true

The deadline wasn't waived. Beginning from the first reports earlier this week it was said that after today Qatar would stop negotiating further, but the bid will still stand. Literally the first reports stated this.

That’s not the case as I broke down earlier even the £5.2bn was weighted in a different way with legacy payment values. They are very closely matched and the Glazers clearly believe that if they give exclusivity to Qatar they are more likely to get near to £6bn, this is coming from someone me who prefers SJR bid for a few core reasons, like I said I hate the Glazers so anyone who removes them is ok by me !

Why do you think Ratcliffe hasn't upped his bid whilst Jassim has had to raise his one at least twice since April 28? Ratcliffe's also been in advanced negotiations with Raine and the Glazers since then.

This El-Khelaifi story likely happened weeks or months ago and even if Qatar finally got serious about the bidding, what's stopping Ratcliffe from upping his? What's stopping the Glazers from telling him and Ineos: up this or we're going with Qatar? You think Ineos will happily lose out on this now on some small difference?

All the Qatari stans milking themselves over potential new bids don't realize that Ineos and Ratcliffe can still go higher too...and it seems like Qatar are already pushing their own financial limits, whilst Ineos haven't shown signs of that.

It's no wonder why so many people are still very sceptical of Jassim. It's blantantly obvious he's just a front man and nothing more.

Very difficult to build trust when the whole thing is one giant pack of lies essentially.

They can't come out and say it though can they? They can't say 'Yes it's a state bid really'.

Either way it’s leaning towards the Glazers want Qatar to takeover and are testing the waters for more money.

Because this bid from Jim has been on the table for months and it's not advancing. The talk from the papers has been that Qatar can't even get Raine group to speak with them and they're being essentially ignored

We know that isn't true now and the Glazers going to Qatar asking for more money means they want a full sale. If Jim's bid was going to win it would be done or at least approaching the latter stages by now.

That being said it’s like a boxing match. One minute it’s SJR, the next it’s SJ, then it’s SJR, back to SJ.

The Ratcliffe stuff is all PR pressure to the Qataris IMO

I don’t really care who owns us as long as they invest properly in the club. Were people here big Martin “Peeper” Edwards fanboys for example?
