Wouldn’t this be in favour of Qatar? Why would Jim hurry along now to Qatars own deadline?
I would imagine Rat?

Qatar have set a deadline of tomorrow, after that they're out. Would leave Jim as the winner by default I guess

Is it? A lot of posters suggest they could get the cash in hand now and do something with it but we have seen recently that investments and banks can collapse with very little warning. A guaranteed payout from INEOS in two or three years carries a lot less risk.
Put it into Government bonds/gilts then if you are risk averse

Could just be that the Ineos deal is almost done and Jassim's bid is just saving face for when they inevitably get rejected, as has been pointed out previously.

I'd say it's 70/30 in favour of Ratcliffe, if the press is to believed.

We will end up like Mcilroy , Glazers will refuse the oil money , Some on principle rejoice only to regret it later when all round you do and they are laughing at us.

They didn't say out. They said no longer engage. The bid would stay on the table as a final bid, no more.

Read up present value and time value of money. Cash today is always worth more than the same cash tomorrow (especially in this high interest environment)

Also worth noting that if someone is going to pay something in 3 years, you have opened yourself up to counterparty and credit risk Thats why options contracts will be used but at the end of the day who says INEOS will be solvent in 3 years?

Anyone paying you at a later date carries more risk.

Yep. I'm familiar with all that. Is it me or is everyone quoting NPV conveniently ignoring the likelihood that a guy behind a $60 billion company and his advisors, or the Glazer's for that matter, would not consider NPV in the offer?

Yes there is counterparty risk but INEOS is a massive company so the residual risk is quite low especially with a derivative contract in place.

But they could have walked out at any time and said the Glazers were delaying and not serious about selling 100%, etc., and no one would have doubted that having seen it played out.

This is exactly how it's going to pan out.

If they were really confident that they'd win, surely they'd have been nominated as preferred bidders by now. If Qatar had lost, then again, there would be no point in another bid knowing that they wouldn't win.
I agree. I also don't buy this 'saving face' argument as people are already laughing at them calling them cheap/broke. It's not really a face-saving exercise to put in another derisory offer.

Maybe for the same reason they keep making offers which include clearing the debt, investing in infrastructure, etc.
It’s actually like they are so far away from anything related to United and they thought Glazers would get overjoyed by the plans Qatar have for Glazers’ beloved United.

Nor has anyone else from Qatar/the royal family advised them.

I actually still refuse to believe they are so incompetent. So either they really are, or they will get United and they already know it.
Or they were not serious from the beginning and just wanted to signal to the Premier League they are ready to buy a PL club but for much less money than United would cost.
A lot depends on what jurisdiction any transaction will be carried out under. In some, not all, the selling party are under a Duty of Care to ensure the transaction is in the best interests of the asset they are selling - not just the one that gives the current owners the most money. This is the only way I can rationalise SJ trumpeting his investment plans whist Ineos are staying quiet on the matter. Just a thought.

Two and five year rates for US bonds aren't spectacular and many seem to be assuming that the option being offered to Joel and Avram won't include similar growth metrics.
I said if they are risk averse. I’m sure with their team of financial advisers they could re-invest the money from SJ and make far more than they’d make from the Ineos deal. Some of the overseas bond markets are paying way more than the US anyway - they can invest anywhere.

Agree with Phil here

A lot of this has stopped making sense for a while now*

*Assuming media reports are true

JR has placed three offers on the table for a while now. The value of these offers seems to be well publicised, and if this information is in the public eye then you would have to assume that Jassim knows about it.

Jassim has made (I think) two offers since JR’s last offer, both of which undervalue the club. Surely at some point along the line they would have considered that they should at least match the amount JR is offering?

And then from the Glazers end, if JR’s offer has been better than the other two that Qatar have offered, then why have they not accepted it yet? Are they hoping that Qatar will come in with a higher offer which they have seemed reluctant to do thus far?

It’s not really making sense from most angles.

Please just end this.
It has just started.

This is the End, no more to lend, the End
This is the End, Jim’s our new friend, the End

Of new stadium plans - The End
Of fixing leaks in stands - The End
No more trophies for us - The End
We won’t be winning major prizes again

Can you picture what will be?
No leeches and debt free…
Desperately in need of Al Thani’s hand
In a Brexit land

Lost in a Glazer wilderness of pain
And all Malc’s children are insane
All Malc’s children are insane
Waiting for advice from Raine, yeah

There's Glazers on the edge of town
Riding Daddy’s coattails
Weird scenes inside the dressing room
Deep in the North West, baby

Bribe the Sheikh
Bribe the Sheikh
For the club
The ancient club, baby
The Sheikh is rich
Seven billion please
Bribe the Sheikh
He's real(ish)
How much can we steal…?

The North West is the best
The North West is the best
Bid here and we'll do the rest

The sky blue bus is taunting us
The sky blue bus is taunting us
Sir Jim, where are you taking us…?

The Sheikh awoke before dawn
He put his kaffiyeh on
He took a final bid from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where Avram lived
And then he paid a visit to Avram’s brother
And then he, he walked on down the hallway
And he came to a door
And he looked inside
"Ratcliffe?"
"Yes, Jassim?"
"I want to kill you"
"Darcie… I want to..."

Come on, yeah
Come on, Glazers, take a chance with us
Come on, Glazers, take a chance with us
Come on, Glazers, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the sky blue bus
Throw a big rock at the sky blue bus
Throw a big rock, c'mon yeah!

This is the end, no more to lend - the End
This is the end, Jim’s our new friend - The end
We like to get things for free
Cristiano unfollowed me

The end of trophies and big prize
The end of Sheikhs with close set eyes

This is the End

Starting to feel like Glazers were using the Qataris to bait SJR into making a better offer all along :nervous:

Plot twist: it will be about Simeone's incredible journey to the top, after a lifetime of being in the shadow of his brother.

Would be quite a good narrative to be fair. I will confess that the first time I became aware that Inter’s manager was named Inzaghi my first assumption was that it was the AC Milan legend. I didn’t even know he had a brother.

Are the Glazers playing 5D chess or are they just bickering idiots who can’t make up their minds and are making this process more complicated than it needs to be?

You could've stuck 'raised like a pitbull...my heart pumps nitro' somewhere in the middle.

My opinion is that the Glazers are just trying to milk as much money from Jassim as possible, and a lot of what we hear in the media about Ratcliffe currently winning is briefed in by people in and around the bid.

The Glazers probably know that Jassim will pay what it takes, and holding off and delaying making a decision could literally be worth hundreds of millions to them.

It also feels like Jassim’s last bid came with a bit of an empty threat that he will walk away after Friday if he hasn’t heard anything, or at least not make another offer. The Glazers are probably calling his bluff.

I truly believe you’re correct and that we will hear news tomorrow or Saturday.

Don’t think it’ll be sewed up by then obviously, and I think Jassim will go slightly higher.

My breakdown on twitter:

More or less confirms what we have been discussing the last days with the numbers adding up. Definitely room for misinformation or stuff being lost in translation -- but if the information from Le Equipe and Jacobs are correct, the latest offer from 9-2 just doesn't seem to be very competitive. I would have liked to see it pressure Ineos more.

Thank you for doing these, I've become more onboard with INEOS ownership after seeing your tweet threads.

It seems like SJR will prevail. Running a club is hard, I hope we don't have to repeat all of the lessons we've learned over the past decade under new leadership.

It only takes one rush of blood to the head for the Emir to say fek it and pay a stupid amount. That's what Raine Group is there to provoke. But it's high risk.

The only sense is that the Glazers have decided not sell..

Yep and SJR's record of running clubs is poor at best, so lets hope if he does win, he'll up his game... but i won't get my hopes up. Might be Glazers mk2

Possibly. They seem pretty risk averse, though.

I’m personally not too bothered about Glazers staying if it means a mandatory exit in 3 years.

I wouldn’t have an issue with accepting ineos over Jassim either if it wasn’t for the fact it’s going to be a takeover hampered with more debt than we currently have and also the fact the current clubs run by ineos appear to be a shitshow. Not the biggest vote of confidence.

This is my biggest concern. I believe Ineos will provide funds for players but it's their awful history at running clubs that have me worried

Shame our current owners give absolutely zero fecks about the club

If INEOS takes on the debt it's not a problem for them. Probably a huge tax benefit.

Structure at the club is improving. If they don't mess with it too much we should be fine. Can't get much worse than the last 10 years.

Won't be hampered with anymore, current debt remains and any new is taken on by INEOS.
