If you look into the whole PSG - Qatar deal there is a lot more to it than football, or even club level football. The world cup bid was involved, billions of military spending to the French government was involved, and so on.

Indeed. They want the olympics too, which is why I was convinced after WC they'd go crazy for United.

Jassim couldn't afford United, I've no idea he'd make one our rivals the best club in the universe.
I don’t understand the logic either. Jassim is getting outgunned by Brexit Jim but he’ll buy a rival and make them best in the world. How does that make sense?

We aren't the super club we once was. There's plenty of sides that make more than us these days that old chesnut is long gone hence why we need to buy to sell this summer cause were fecked financially
We can afford 100m-150m before selling FFS. That is still a ton of money after spending 200m last summer. Just fecking be smart with transfer business and that's all we need. You know what the difference with United and City has been the past 7 years? Having a top manager and making smart signings. Not the amount they've invested. Yes they can spend unlimited money if they want to, if they need to. But we've spent just as much but just wasted it.

I don't understand why anybody would want us to become Disneyland FC like PSG. That would be a fecking disaster here.

Even if he is private, he's pledged to clear the debt and invest in the team and the stadium, none of which Jim has done yet

If he isn’t state backed then are we certain he can do it? We know his dad is rich but he’s also on record saying he doesn’t think this is a smart investment.

He only has offered a world record for a football club. Short of him offering 10bn the money sucking Glazers were only gonna accept the bid that kept them at the club while they got to stuff their bank accounts.

Yeah if Jassim can’t beat JR then I’m not as worried about him taking over a rival

The Glazers are accepting an offer that gives them more money for their shares.

Because he wants full control of United not 50%? he's offering a world record fee and a promise to clear all debts and invest into the stadium so were probably talking upwards of a £7B commitment. Nobody on the planet is going anywhere near that.

He wont pay 6B for the club and then a further 2B in financing before he's even stepped foot inside the door he'd have to be a complete moron

Simply put, why wouldn’t he buy the whole club now? He clearly can’t afford it. Qatar would throw money at United to make us the best. SJR is a business man, he will not be running us with the sole intent of taking us to the top.

Terrible news if he gets his hands on the club.

Yeah he has pretty much got hands on it now, just have to hope we are all of our, Lausanne and NICE fanbases are somehow miraculously wrong about him but no chance of that being the case.

Well I guess the thing is that forbes estimates probably aren't that accurate for the middle East, where people are likely to have access to a lot more liquid cash, are paid by the state etc. Typical valuations of someone's wealth is based on the shares in companies or assets they hold and is less accurate for insular middle Eastern countries, so he might be pretty damn wealthy himself, we don't really know, if he's gotten to this stage though, presumably he at least has access to the 6bn or so dollars that he's bidding. If he was stretched financially by this, you'd think he'd just bid for 69% rather than stressing a 100% bid

I don’t understand the logic either. Jassim is getting outgunned by Brexit Jim but he’ll buy a rival and make them best in the world. How does that make sense?
Because hes not actually getting out gunned by Sir Jim in total outlay since his bid is to purchase 100% not 51%

The Glazers are accepting an offer that gives them more money for their shares.

Thats true and with that loophole of a 50% bid Jim will probably get the club

We all know he cant afford the full thing though yet you try and slate Qatar for not stumping up 7B whilst old wrinkle bollocks probably puts 3B in?

Bravo the glazers get more money and even get to stay on! excellent news....fecking hell.

Jim Ratcliffe has offered the Glazers more money for their shares.

And he's gonna be doing it the same way Glazers bought us by taking on debt with loans. He won't be clearing any debt and while Brexit Jim and Ineos are saying they are putting that debt on Ineos it doesn't take a genius to realize where the money will come from to pay that debt. So we'll be paying the debt the Glazers put on us and paying the debt Brexit Jim put on Ineos to buy his percentage. .

Ok i take your point.

So answer me this, in what world has Jim's history within sport given you the impression that he will be smart? his other clubs are absolutely dog shit run

Why does he have to have 100% of the club now?
This is fairly simple. The Galzers don’t care about the club not care about debt or investment. The only thing they care about is who will give them more money. So give them more money than the next guy if you want it so much.

You all should be angry at Qatar and not INEOS for constantly over promising and under delivering where it mattered most, appealing to the Glazers who actually own the club. You all seem to think Ratcliffe is desperate to get into bed with the Glazers but i cannot understand where such stupid nonsense has come from, why the hell would any sane businessman stumping up 5billion+ want to be in business with other people especially the Glazers, think for crying out loud, the Glazers do not want to leave, so he’s devised a way to get the club out of their hands for now, with a view to them leaving for good in a few years. Maybe Qatar should have done the same?

I feel like im talking to a brick wall in this thread man.
You are.

If people listened and didn't make shit up there'd be no need to continually respond in such a stupid manner
Well if they were intent on staying all along then shame on SJR for giving them a route to do so.

SJR has not bothered to lay out a plan for how he would run the club - can we even be sure that the Glazers won't be part of decision making processes?? Can he even guarantee that the Glazers will eventually leave? So much uncertainty and I won't forgive him for getting into bed with the feckers.

Guess what, he is perfectly capable of coming up with the same deal as Ratcliffe and still investing the money into the stadium and then buying the rest of the shares in the next 2-3 years like Ratcliffe will. He didn't think of it, or didn't care to match the structure. Stop making excuses for him just being a shit negotiator. He lost out on the offer because either they weren't as committed as they keep saying (surprise surprise, middle east sportswashing owner being all about public image rather than following up on promises), or were not smart enough to get it done. Either way, it does not bode well if they were to win the bid.

None of us knows what Ratcliffe will be like. None of us know how he will run us. The things we know are that he is a very savvy business man, and he has been very smart in negotiating with the Glazers. Which you have to do. The Qataris very clearly were very dumb in their ways.

Because they want full control and have offered a crazy fee to do that?

If the Glazers were more interested in selling a 50% stake from the off they probably wouldn't have even bid

He is getting outgunned because he is offering less money to the people that have control. I don’t know another way to get this point across.

Excellent. SJ can feck off. Also, the Glazers wont keep waiting for better bids and might just sell to SJR and leave too..

RIP for the people Qatar had sent over to seal the deal..

When do we think we're going to know who the preferred bidder is then?

This weekend? Presumably if the Sheikh withdraws on Friday night, we'll start getting leaks to that effect over the weekend?

I don't think there will be a 'preferred bidder' announcement to confirm what everyone already seems to know. My guess is that the next news we'll hear will be that Ineos have won.

The Glazers don’t own 100% of the club. The important thing here is control. He can get that and buy the rest later. There is no downside to doing that if you have an option to buy the remaining shares.

Well if they were intent on staying all along then shame on SJR for giving them a route to do so.

Shame on SJR for coming up with a deal that gives him majority control of the club? Shame on him for being smart enough to win the bid?

Literally nothing (apart from business sense) has stopped Qatar from making an offer where they take control now and get full ownership in the future. Hell, you have more cash on hand in the short term to invest in what you need if anything. It's an entirely favourable outcome for both parties. Ignore personal vendettas like "feck the Glazers" and look at things like an intelligent person. They won't be in control. Someone else will make the decisions. That new owner has more cash now to make differences short term, that new owner can still negotiate with them to get them out fully eventually so they then have full control. When talking about a multi billion £ deal, it is incredibly dumb to go at it the way Qatar has, and shows nothing but incompetence to achieve their goal. If the target is to take over the club, then you get your foot in the door with the control to make decisions and you gradually work on getting full ownership eventually if that's what it takes.

Pretty sure Qatar have it now based on this - if the Glazers continue to hold out and SJ pulls their bid on Friday then there's no competition for Ratcliffe and no push for him to increase his bid in anyway. In fact, he could even lowball based on having no competition knowing that its the Glazers only option remaining, and being businessmen the Glazers will be painfully aware of that.

Ratcliffe has had the largest bid for the last six weeks (despite the fact that Qatar have submitted an additional two bids since then). I don't think Ineos have been under any pressure to increase their bid since April. By the sounds of things, we're beyond that anyway now and Ineos and Raine are in the final stages of putting together the takeover deal.

Nice was a mid table club with mid table finances and wages and have remained so. Not every owner takes over with the goal of transforming into an elite club. 99% don't. It's not a financially smart thing because you lose a shit ton of money doing that with a club not built for it. United is a club with one of the highest transfer spends year on year and one of the highest revenues in the world and one of the highest wages. All we need is to play to our actual spending level. We don't need ginormous investment to transform us from a mid table club to a top club with big revenues. We already are that. It's a completely different comparison.

People look at Brighton and how well they are run - they are in huge debts and have a Brighton fan who is funding that debt. If he ever gets bored, they are fecked. If Abu Dhabi gets bored, City are fecked. Nobody should want to be run in a way that they get fecked over if this random billionaire decides to feck off.
FFS, he said he will challenge PSG for the title, why are people just ignoring that? Not only he failed to make Nice challenge PSG, he made them worse. They were better before him.

The amount of bullshit spouted on here by the pro-Qatari gang is crazy, but probably less than I expected in a scenario where it looks like Ratcliffe has won the race.

Funny, nevertheless.

Oh yeah hilarious watching us drift into mediocrity because Ratcliffe won't invest properly

He is getting outgunned because he is offering less money to the people that have control. I don’t know another way to get this point across.
Except he isn’t. Ineos bid is more attractive because the Glazers keep some shares (which offer future upside value) money today is not higher in Ineos bid to Glazers.

The valuations of the clubs are practically similar and SJ has offered Glazers a separate pot of money in the bid.

Yeah I am convinced it's the unknown thing that's also putting off Raine Group from wanting to deal with Jassim. Like others have said if this was a state backed bid why haven't they just blown Ratcliffe out of water yet nevermind just matched offer.
One thing I will respect about Jassim today truth be told is the take it or leave it Friday hard deadline.

That actually needed doing as the leeches seemingly are content derailing next season by not selling in time for anything to change this summer.

Still don’t know who he is but at least he has some sense. I can’t see his bid winning however but we’ll see.

They can blow Ratcliffe out of the water, they’re just choosing not to. Have to draw a line somewhere, and they’re probably right to do so. I could pay £100 for a bag of walkers crisps, but I won’t.

you won't because there is a near limitless supply of a bag of walkers crisp and you could get another bag for 80p. There is only one Manchester Utd and if there really was a bottomless pit of money they wouldn't be getting outbid.
