but why would he make an improved bid rather than just walking away now?

Keegan also states the bid will stand after Friday but they just won’t submit any more after then. I suspect it’s partly calling the Glazers bluff
All a game isn't it. Negotiating happens in every walk of life. They are probably frustrated like most of us are. Unfortunately these things take time.

Qatar's 5th bid is still lower than Ineos' 3rd one? Who's "not serious" and "broke" now?

They be at every final sitting beside their good pal and co-owner Jim. Probably pick up their dividend payments while they are over

This.

It’ll be them sat next to the Brexit Rat. Essentially just a new buddy for the Utd old boys boardroom.

They’ll still be coming to the league cup finals, you can guarantee that.

I don’t want Ratcliffe for a number of reasons. Firstly his current football clubs are an absolute laughing stock even Nice fans are on the verge of protests and his Swiss side have been relegated….twice.

Secondly he can’t match the funding of Qatar. He’s buying 50% of the club? So he’s paying off all the debts and providing funding for not only the squad but the club facilities as well whilst ‘only’ owning 50%? I doubt that very much.
We'll have to see. If what he has said ends up a load of hot air, strengthen the team this summer for show and then next to nothing. No stadium upgrades and the women's team gets ignored then the future might not be too rosy. We have not yet seen his complete plans. I just hope it is not just an ego trip for SJR, that he own United and he is just happy with that. It isn't enough, he has to get us back to the top.

Yup. Smart negotiations behind the scenes, it's a massive business deal so is taking time. Raine and the Glazers clearly were receptive to Ratcliffe meanwhile Qatar are the outsiders just throwing more and more money to get back at the table. It's worrying because it might work, but it's also a sign that they are horrible negotiators. We need someone to just run us smartly. Qatar would be Woodward Disneyland 2.0 with insane money. Would make the club a farce.

I suspect Qatari bid is dead in the water and has been for a while and this is just a way to save face.

If there were really serious they’d come up with something better than just slightly improving their bids.

Because they want the whole club mate.

They clearly wanna remove the Glazers properly.

They do, but it still doesn't really make sense long term. They could beat the Ratcliffe bid now by buying a percentage and discuss terms on selling over x years (exactly like Ineos are doing). While that's going on they can plan a bid for the public shares. It's only a 3 year delay for them, and if they really want United it's not the end of the world to wait a few years for 100%

Big difference that seems to need repeating here for the constant confusion.

The SJR offer might be higher as it offers zero guarantee of clearing the debt, only reducing it overtime, or funding that meets the level of investment the club needs plus they'll keep the leeches in the picture.

Folks are still seemingly dug in regardless of the long-term ramifications for the club we support, just ask Nice fans how they feel about INEOS ownership.

How do they possibly save face at this stage? Putting in another shit bud would be worse than just walking surely?
They leave saying we don't believe any amount will force them to sell, we did our best but feel our time has been wasted and wanted to step out rather than being played rather than wait until the last minute and be seen to lose.

Their bid STILL doesn’t match Ineos??

Ineos will only buy out all 69% of shares over 3 years, why don’t Qatar just offer to do the same?
Because Qatar want a full takeover and are going to invest a billion after it. They're not going to invest that money to benefit any minority stake owners (glazers).

Qatari's either get the club, or set up SJR to be completely hated by the fanbase for allowing the Glazers to stay in some capacity and not clearing the debt.

Matt Lawton’s a sports journalist. How would he all of a sudden know what’s what with this? Again I don’t think any of the usual journalists who report on football and transfers know anything.

How do we not know that this isn’t just the Glazers trying to get Qatar to pay up?

Probably because daddy told him so. Or for the same reason he kept making slightly improved bids after deadline had passed. It could still be that he is some kind of hidden genius but seriously so far in the bidding process he has come across as a clown.

Won’t it add to City’s parade? They’re desperate for Jim to get it over Qatar as is everyone in Europe they know we’re doing feck all under Jim.

And that’s why I called him a weasel he’s willing to keep the Glazers around and only own 50% of the club nobody else is willing to do that and rightly so. So if those greedy bastards and Jim want to get into bed together that’s fine but the club will continue to be a complete mess going forward

Party time for everyone else with him winning

Personally don't feel this is a way of saving face. Seems more like a way to try and get this moving. Obviously I could be wrong (have been many times before). Doesn't make much sense to try and save face at this point. If they lose out to Jim the world will see it anyway.

Thing is the cunto family doesn’t care about what anything other than what they receive. The debt, redevelopment etc is meaningless to them.

Pride is really important for these human rights abusing sheikh fecks, especially when one of their biggest rivals is buying up all of golf and investing $20bn into their football league.

That depends on your point of view. I think City treble and Jim Glazer announcement in the same weekend will spell the darkest weekend in club's recent history. But I doubt he and the INEOS crowd see it that way.

Oh the Ratcliffers are rejoicing despite the fact all of those leeches will stay on

I wish they would stop saying they have bid so and so " with 1 billion pledged for investment on top " that's not part of the bid and it's been a theme since day one.

It's like trying to buy a 100k house and saying I will give you 70k and I'll spend 30k on a loft conversion and conservatory once you've moved out.

I agree with this. Qatar have looked rather amateurish and arrogant from the outset. And their appeals over the heads of the Glazers to the fans seemed really bad judgement.

INEOS are just trying to find a solution by compromise and flexibility. Not saying they're the best for the club, but Qatar has increasingly worried me as a prospect.

Meh, it’s naive to expect an entity to just pay full asking price when their bids are already record breaking. Ratcliffe is only managing it through buying a much smaller piece currently and leveraging it through INEOS.

So, Jassim's way to disrupt the final negotiations between Ratcliffe and the Glazers is to... still offer less money? Bloody hell... :wenger: And Qatari PR still not getting that "promised investment" is utterly irrelevant.

I admit I expected a lot more from the Qatari. This is downright amateurish.
Amateurish already offering ridiculously over the odds? You do realise buying 51% is a lot different and less risky than buying 100% at the same share price?

Because they want the whole club mate.

It would make sense, but not sure that is how Qatar would operate, they want complete control.
Because Qatar want a full takeover and are going to invest a billion after it. They're not going to invest that money to benefit any minority stake owners (glazers).
My apologies I didn’t explain myself properly

I just mean, the Glazers would ONLY be staying under Ineos because they’d get more money over 3 years

So I am just asking why don’t Qatar offer more, but pay it in instalments? (£2bn per year for 3 years as an example)

This this this 100 times this.

Seriously, people are dismissively making money/broke jokes when the figures being reported are already unprecedented and would smash sporting records worldwide for sales

They're being offered quite more than even Real Madrid, the most valuable football club in the world, are currently valued at on the market.

The bids are almost double Chelsea went for just a year ago, that's massive
