Club Sale | It’s done!

If SJR happens, I will be seriously considering looking at an alternative club to follow as difficult as that maybe. We will be finished as a football club.

Not a shock. Since he offered to get in bed with the Glazers things seem to have been trending towards Ratcliffe.

Figures that the Glazers would sell to the less ambitious bidder who is relying on a load of new debt just to buy the club. And we don't even get rid of Joel and Avram, wonder if Sir Jim will sign their dividend cheques personally

Checked for news almost every hour in the last two weeks and of course it breaks whilst I’m taking a shit.

Still nothing from Keegan. Trying to ring his sources in Doha

Haven't they been discussing details of a sale for about 3 months now? How the feck is that an update?
Well, the article says the preferred bidder will be announced in the next few days, that being Ratcliff.

The Qataris need to come in and offer more to sway the other siblings, as Ratcliff is valuing their shares at a higher price. People are underestimating the other siblings here.

This is such bad news.

Exactly. And while the new debt would not be at club level, in reality the new owner would look to service it with club income.

Any revenue from the club will be a drop in the ocean compared to the overall debt Ineos take out. It makes no sense to think anyone is buying the club for 5b and expecting a short term return on investment.

The article was paywalled the tweet just said they're discussing details of a sale, which is what they seem to have been doing already, tbh I don't know how much stock I'm putting in what any journalists say right now, they've been back and forth constantly, while everything is covered by an NDA

From the article:

“Sources close to the Qataris believe they remain part of the process and it could yet be that they respond with an 11th-hour bid that forces the Glazers to reconsider”

Don’t consider this done yet…

Not sure how that is an update. The Glazers and their bankers are willing to discuss the details of a sale, I mean what exactly have they been doing for the last two weeks since the final bids came in? Do the Glazers not have a phone number for Raine or is it perhaps just the general customer service number and they have been in a queue for 2 weeks being told how important their call is to Raine and a representative will be with them shortly.

It's a world record bid compared to what other sporting institutions have sold for. There are no reports - at least that I've seen - that say Ineos bid is higher, just that they value the club higher. And United hasn't been sold to Ineos yet, again, it's a record compared to what other sporting institutions have sold for.

Again, I didn't fever dream "world record bid". Here:

That's an article which said the bid was over 5b. I thought it turned out to be le was than that. Either way, to continue this fairly tedious point, there can only be one World record at a time as far as I'm concerned.

I'd be happy if Ratcliffe were to win out. I know a lot of people don't think it'd happen, but I for one think we'd become pretty soulless under state ownership. As successful as they are, having been to City's ground recently to watch a game I really don't want us to become what they are. It was without doubt the most lifeless footballing experience I've ever had.

Having said all that, I still think we're going to see one more offer made by Qatar. I also wouldn't be surprised if to some extent the Glazers are still testing to see if they can get more out of Sheikh Jassim.

I'll just assume that you're being purposely obtuse and don't want to understand what I've said. No hard feelings, let's not derail the thread any further, please proceed.

I’m happy that all those who wanted SJR and the Glazers remaining have got their wish. As for the rest of us, enjoy decades of mediocrity.

Surely they can't just keep firing in more bids. What was the point of this long drawn out process with deadlines and all?
It’s tiring is what it is. Nothing is stopping another rival coming in with their first and best that takes the club as well.
Waste of time

We know the media reported it. The media is sensationalizing, though, because they aren't bidding for the other 31%.

And that was also before the reports of what Ineos' second bid was (only the 50% option, as that was mentioned a couple of days prior to this).

For what it's worth, the Times article that was just posted saying Ratcliffe is closing in on the deal, also called Ratcliffe's offer a world record. It is a world record in terms of the valuation, but neither Qatar nor Ineos' bid were world records in terms of what would be paid if accepted.

I have seen this a few times now and I just don't get it how does it make any sense. So if Qataris take over, Old Trafford will suddenly turn into lifeless Emptyhad or what? How is that supposed to work?

Why would Ratcliffe spend billions on a football club, only to use it to service hundreds of millions of debt, when he already owns a company worth significantly more than every Premier league club combined? He'd be crippling our chances of success and limiting any chance of raising the value of the club. Unless of course everyone is narrow minded to believe any new owner will operate the same way as the Glazers. Not that that way of thinking makes any sense either. The Glazers are small time compared with Ineos

I don’t think he has 4-5 billion lying in his bank account so, unless he sells a stake in INEOS, he needs to get the cash for the purchase from somewhere. Most likely that will be debt funding (in line with normal business practice). And that’s without considering funding for the stadium upgrade/rebuild.

It means they are picking Ratcliffe to enter into final negotiations basically. That was always going to be the next step, picking the final party to do this with.
