Club ownership | Senior management team talk

That's how they bought the club, they borrowed the money and placed the debt on the club, at the time there were no rules in place to stop a 'leveraged buyout', as far as I know it had never been done before to buy a football club in the UK, this practice was banned so it can't be done now
I do hear a fair bit about the leveraged buyout but am pretty ignorant to it all. What an absolute joke. Given that it’s not allowed anymore there should be a fecking time frame on those crooks to pay the chunk they used to buy us. Obviously that’s not how the world works though sadly.

The fact we’re seeing 30 million (IIRC) in interest in too if it every year made me rage when I heard it mentioned on talk of the devils. It’s a sorry state of affairs.

They have made big mistakes since taking over. If they hadn't we would probably be in the top 6 teams now.
Not sacking ETH after the fa final.
Backing him with 200m.
Sacking Asworth just after spending a fortune to hire him.
Sacking ETH after offering him a new contract and buying crap players for him.
Forcing Amorim to come now instead of the summer and in that process spending another small fortune.
Not listening to Ashworth who new this squad is wrong for Amorims system.
Bringing Amorim now knowing they can't bring in players for him in January.
Not leaving Ruud as an interim until summer.
All the above have contributed to us beeing 15th with zero progress.
INEOS are rubbish.
Not to mention they are the reason the Glazers are still here despite putting the club up for sale.
Yep they've been a total shambles from day 1. The poor decisions noted above are not the making of a world class sports team and will knock us back at least 2 years in progress.

Mick Foley and Qatar? All the evidence I need. Get a bid in lads.

At the time most of us would have been ignorant about it, in fact leveraged buyouts are still common practice in business and perfectly legal, the PL voted last week to ban fully leveraged buyouts

Are you serious? They already look like donkeys, sacking the manager after appointing him few weeks ago on the back of just renewing the contract of the previous manager is one of the most idiotic footballing decisions ever made by any club in history. They will be the laughing stock of every club.
We’re already the laughing stock of football, they renewed ETH then gave him £180 million to spend and sacked him weeks later even though he should have been sacked straight after the cup final and gone out on a high.
Right, so you think our freefall is because of INEOS? Nothing to do with the mismanagement of the club for the last 10 odd years?

Instead, blame the ones that been at the club for 1 year.
Ineos have had control of the footballing side of the business since January last year so every bad decision since January last year is on them, the years of mismanagement by the parasites have fecked us financially but the 13 months of Ineos controlling the football side of the club is a completely separate thing.

They knew everything within the club before coming in as had full disclosure to the accounts and the entire workforce so had full knowledge of everything then had from January 2024 through to the end of the season to analyse things further, they then absolutely fecked things from the cup final onwards and that isn’t even a debate.

First off there's the shambolic internal review on whether to keep ETH or not by a fecking cycling coach in Brailsford where Ineos openly interviewed other coaches like Tuchel then flew to Ibiza where ETH was on holiday to tell him he’s staying, it was heavily reported that Brailsford pushed hard to keep ETH so they extended his contract and then brought in RVN and Hake on big money.

That decision was only the start as then they gave ETH over £180 million to spend then weeks later did what they should have done after the cup final and sacked ETH, only now though rather than paying ETH off only a years contract the club had to pay him two years contract plus his staff plus Hake which hurt us massively PSR wise.

The next big decision was who would replace ETH which is where it turns fecking shambolic as Ashworth who was brought in to run the footballing department after we’d created a saga of bringing him in then paying for him had his power effectively stripped from him by non footballing directors and pulled rank.

Ashworth wanted Howe or Frank but if they weren’t available then RVN or Potter strictly as interim until the end of the season, problem was Brailsford wanted Southgate and Berrada wanted Amorim so what Ashworth wanted was a non starter even though he was head of the footballing department.

At a guess it was probably because of Brailsford wanting to keep ETH he wasn’t listened to in regards to Southgate but Berrada was and within hours of ETH being fired Berrada was on a plane to Portugal to tell Amorim it was now or never to join United even though Amorim didn’t want to leave mid season, there’s no way Amorim would have left mid season if he wasn’t promised certain things as he was flying in the league and doing well in the CL too.

Ashworth was against Amorim coming in simply based on the fact Amorim is married to his system and we neither had the players to play it or the money to bring players in to play it either yet Berrada was insistent, Ashworth then mysteriously leaves the club after 5 months so we lose more money in another pay off and Wilcox who has a relationship with Berrada from City effectively moves into Ashworth’s role along with Vivell who was only meant to be a consultant.

Then we have the shambles of moving Rashford and Antony on then triggering Maguire’s contract to create money to bring in a kid from relegation bound Lecce of Serie A to play left wing back only for Amorim to play him at right wing back not to mention things like Mainoo as a striker.

We all know how fecking bad the Glazer’s have been but Ineos were insistent when coming in that THEY run the football department so for all the bad the Glazer’s have done what’s happened on the pitch between the cup final and now is on Ineos as THEY have made the decisions, why people are giving them a pass and saying it’s all a result of the years of mismanagement is insane as Ineos have had full control footballing wise.

What we are seeing right now is Ineos making the exact same mistakes of the past decade or so where non footballing people make footballing decisions and think we can run before we can walk, Brailsford and Berrada shouldn’t be anywhere near footballing decisions as one is a fecking cycling coach and the other a commercial and sponsorship guy which means they’re as qualified as Woodward and Arnold were and we know how that went.

Tuchel --> Nagelsmann timeline was actually perfect. You get Tuchel and behind his back start talking with Nagelsmann. Why long term planning has to include just one manager? But this is something Madrid woiuld done, we do it diferently.

That said, I liked Amorim appointment. But I think we missed the trick.

Yeah Tuchel wasn't given enough guarantees by Glazers 2.0 so rightfully looked elsewhere

No one knows what happen actually. They didin't strike the deal. And while I rate Tuchel as a manager he is also questionable. What I actually blame Ineos is talking to him and then in the end giving ten Hag extension. That doesn't make any sense. And then they obviously fecked up with new manager and not hiring him with a full preseason.

Actually they fecked up everything since they started to make decisions. It is a shitshow.

Exactly why I will remain firmly INEOS out, we were warned they hadn't got a clue from Nice and Lausanne. I will also continue to brand them Glazers 2.0 for their utter incompetence as well.

Possibly worse based on what exactly?
The small window they’ve had running the club the past 12 months.

Has any owner made as many mistakes, been so toxic, and made us so bad in such a short stint? They are Mike Ashley at Newcastle, Venkys at Blackburn level owners so far.

I think some of you forget the damage the Glazer’s have done to this club.

The thing I hate about owners of football clubs, in general, is how unaccountable they are. We all make mistakes and if the Glazers had made their fair share of mistakes we'd all live it. But they have gone beyond any reasonable level share of mistakes over the years, starting with the decision to replace Ferguson with Moyes. But I can even forgive the Glazers for that one as Moyes did come with the highest recommendation of Ferguson, whose judgment at the time was unimpeachable.

After that, however, it's been madness with almost every big decision since then. And yet to this day they feast at banquet at our expense.

The mad thing is, we could even have managed to survive for longer with their utter incompetence if they hadn't cost the club well over a billion pounds to pay for their debt and dividends.

Woodward looks better then them at this point. And he wasn't good.

If Woodward and the Glazers hadn't wasted/taxed the club for so much money, it would be so much easier for Ineos right now.

Though, of course the glazers wouldn't have given up control if they hadn't already run the club into the ground.

So can we hope that it's that bad that the cnuts have to put some money back in and possibly jim put some too but at the ratio of ownership? :(

The Glazers have no real incentive to do that, they would rather sell up and exit with as much money as possible.

This article gives a good picture of where INEOS are in regards to overall cost cutting in their sporting portfolio.

The latest Mercedes car seems to have a less prominent INEOS logo, where it used to be just above the drivers head. Although INEOS owns a third, they sponsor the car. Their 5 year deal ended last year, and the new deal most likely is less as the logo is less prominent.

It could be argued that now that they have the Manchester United owner affiliation they are less dependent on other sponsorship avenues for brand awareness.

Well I'd be more than happy if they did sell up and hopefully they realise it has come to the point of deciding to leave now or have to finally put some money in. We live in hope.

Spurs gone too potentially

Them cutting costs across multiple businesses is worrying. Either they need those money or think its too dangerous to over invest in 2025. Bad for the club either way.

I would imagine their spectacular failures at Utd so far have damaged both brands quite significantly. I don't think they can really get out of buying the club at this point though, they are too invested. They would lose everything they'd invested and our club would have to go into administration if we couldn't find a quick sale surely?

Very well said mate. It seems that you can’t criticise Ineos or point out how bad they’ve been without some mug pipping up and telling you “well the Glazers started it” .
They’ve ran football only matters for a year as you’ve said and they’ve been fecking garbage. Garbage signings, directors coming in and out and of course worse of all keeping ETH in the summer. Doesn’t matter what anyone can say about the Glazers, we were never in 15th position, never losing at home every week. the club on its knees and Ineos have to shoulder that.
They were supposed to come in and improve things not make it entirely worse and you don’t get to then turn around and say “oh well the Glazers”.
