I hope PSG will play against your team in the next round
So next year then :wenger:

Btw, funny how people are criticizing neymar for being too selfish, when he basically put in the same type of performance that makes the caf drool over Hazard

Emery fecked up not bringing on Di Maria, that said: his change initially worked. After Cavani came out, PSG started taking over the game as they were better able to play through our pressing. As a result they pinned us back(something they'd never done for any meaningful stretch before) and were able to cut off counterattacks with their press. Then Zidane countered that by basically giving up trying to play through the press and just hoof it up to the wings for our fresh speedy wingers to either win foot races with their FB or push them back and press high. The 2-1 came from that: hoof ball, PSG's defence is forced back to get the ball, look up and we're on already on them. They made the mistake of trying to play through the press anyways because that was their game plan, only their midfield was too slow coming back to help and they ended up losing the ball in front of their box. Couple unlucky deflections in the box--->Cristiano happens. That floored them and they tilted, just like in barcelona, and we took advantage to score a gem of a team goal. They shook it off only when a rare mistake by Varane(or was it Ramos?) sent Mbappé through on goal. Also we slowed down instead of going for a 4th, understandable given the situation

It's not me that's making them sound like an underdog. Half of the people posting here (not only here to be honest) were giving PSG as prohibitive favorites and were putting up all sorts of excuses when PSG lost. And you're quite right, a team with those players shouldn't be underdog to anyone.

It was really a 50/50 debate.

When a team wins, there are some reasons for that. The same when a team loses. Excuse is a irrelevant term in a football forum. The referee wasn't the main decisive factor but isn't a fact that has to be overlooked if we're due to express some views about a football game

Also, I've read here there were a "hype" about PSG, which doesn't make sense as we are just talking about 2 of the best European teams at the moment

I fully understand that some hate PSG and - personally - I'm extremely bored of seeing Bayern-Barcelona-Real in the SF season after season.

That was a really enjoyable game between Madrid and PSG and just as bewildering. PSG pretty much had Madrid by the balls for good phases of that game but A) they were pathetic in the final third and B) somehow Madrid manage to score goals. I mean Ronaldo didn't even play well but somehow ends up with two goals. On the other hand Neymar beats defenders for fun but doesnt make it count.

Madrid should go through but if PSG finish off moves anything can happen. First goal will be absolutely crucial. If PSG score first and dont mess up every final pass they'll win. If Madrid score first they'll go through.

Neymar needs to turn up at the home leg. Mbappe is a kid so him being disappointing isn't that crazy. But Neymar needs to prove that he's worthy of being called the best.

Not impossible at all for PSG to go through. At times you sliced Madrid open for fun and played them off the park. But your front three didn't turn up. The final ball was awful. There were a couple of counter attacks where someone with the decision making of a Messi would have ensured a goal. Neymar has to show more of that IMO. He's got the game. He needs to be more clinical.

Are PSGs front that lackadaisical and non clinical in the league as well? The way they kept messing up great opportunities was odd. Very disappointing from the front three.

Cavani was injured 10 days ago: hip issue.
M'bappé has been injured in January (aggression from the Lyon goalkeeper: aerial challenge), then suspended.
So, they weren't at 100%.

Neymar is another story: so much media noise because Real Madrid wants to acquire him next summer so he overplayed: instead of choosing the best option, he was obsessed with scoring.

For diverse reasons, I won't blame the front trio. Very unusual to miss so many opportunities.

At the same time, Rabiot and Veratti looked classy as feck.

Imagine a world-class #6 like Prime Thiago Motta and the team is unplayable

People putting PSG as favourites were not far off; they had enough opportunities to get a good result here (atleast a draw), but when you allow Madrid to stay in the game they will finish you off.

It depends sometimes they're not clinical like yesterday, sometimes the first 3 half-chances result in 3 goals. I hope the latter happens in the second leg.

It has to be mentioned that due to various injuries and suspensions Mbappé, Cavani and Neymar didn't have the opportunity to start a game together in 2018 before yesterday.

This thread giving me a case of the RAWK

@Ecstatic

Real Madrid - PSG as a boxing match:
Round 1: the champ comes out swinging, put the challenger on the back foot, nothing meaningful landing but takes the round. 10-9
Round 2: the challenger seems to have adjusted, some nice crisp counters, champion keeps coming forward without landing. 19-19
Round 3: more of the same, close round, challenger egdes it. 29-28
Round 4: challenger growing bold but ooooh eats a big right hand counter! Challenger is rocked. Champion takes the round! 38-38
Round 5: now it's the champion putting on the pressure and !!!! CHALLENGER LANDS THE BIG LEFT HAND COUNTER AND THE CHAMPION IS DOWN!!!! THE CHAMPION IS DOWN!!! He beats the count but he's clearly hurt and now the challenger is smelling blood, another right hand, champion is in trouble now! But is saved by the bell! What a round for the challenger! 48-36
Round 6: champion shaking it off, lands the big left hand! Challenger shrugs it off and Oh! Was that a low blow by the challenger? Ref thinks so. Ref speakinh to the challenger and HE TAKES A POINT OFF!! WTF!!! Ref doing a bad job here and it's a two points round for the champ. 56-56
Round 7: challenger starting to take control of the fight despite the ref's decision, beating the champion to the punch. Big right hand by the challenger, champ is rocked! 66-65
Round 8: more of the same and now the champ with a headbutt! Challenger saying it's intentional but ref won't have it. Seemed intentional. Another mistake by the ref. Challenger still protesting heavily and refusing to come out of the corner, this could be it! Ref turns a blind eye. Fight resumes. 76-74
Round 9: challenger now in control landing some nice combinations, champion appears to have no answers. 86-83
Round 10: Champ is in big trouble now! Challenger stalking him across the ring, still landing, champ is starting to breath heavily. 96-92
Round 11: another big combination by the challenger, champ is on the ropes now, fight might end any moment! Challenger a bit too cautious here, still afraid of the champs power? And that's the bell! Challenger in complete control, champ looks in real pain but still on his feet. Strange decision by the challenger to not go for the stoppage as the champ looked in real trouble there! Will the challenger manage see it out, or will he rue the missed opportunity? One thing's certain, the champ needs the KO now! 106-101
Round 12: and here we are, the final round of this much anticipated bout, with the heavyweight championship on the line! Challenger still looking to control things, champ desperate now, just letting his hands go AND HE LANDS THE BIG THE LEFT HAND!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND DOWN GOES THE CHALLENGER!!! DOWN GOES THE CHALLENGER!!!! Overhand left hook, challenger doesn't see it coming and goes down!! He beats the count but looks still dazed! Will he survive?!?! And the here comes the champ swinging, he now he needs the stoppage, and he will not be denied! AND HE LANDS THE BIG COMBINATION AND THE CHALLENGER IS BACK TO THE CANVAS!!!!!!! DOESN'T LOOL LIKE HE CAN MAKE IT!!!! AND HE DOESN'T!!!! IT'S OVER!!!!!! THE CHAMP WINS!!! CHAMP WINS!!!! BY KNOCKOUT IN THE 12TH!!!! WHAT A FIGHT!!!

"2 minutes into the 12th round by KO, for the winner, and still! Heavyweight! Champion of the wooooorld!!!! Real Madriiiiid!"

At 2-1 I'd have PSG as favourites to go through but 3-1 is difficult to come back from. Real are an experienced team, they will fancy themselves to score in Paris too and if they do PSG will have an absolute mountain to climb.

A 3-1 PSG victory in Paris isn't exactly fairytale stuff. I'd consider that quite a likely scoreline based on the context of what we saw the other night (PSG missed quite a few chances) and how strong they are at home. I would not be surprised in the least to see this tie go to extra-time in two weeks.

PSG looked most dangerous on the brake. They live of transition from what I can see.

They will have to attack at home and this Real team used to be comfortable without the ball last season. We'll see what happens but it will be a harder game for them to create chances then the one yesterday.

And it is rare that Real doesn’t score in a game. But, at the same time, if PSG gets it to work, they have extreme offensive power. It will be an exciting game!

People putting PSG as favourites wasn’t very far off. They are good. The problem was underestimating Real. Real basically are clutch in CL. They need to be on song for 10 mins to score goals. Too many experienced winners with all round ability. Attack them too much and leave gaps behind and they will pick you off. Back off and they will bombard you with aerial pressure and eventually one of them will get you. Bit more experience and calm heads from PSG would have made the score line better. Not over but Real favourites now and it will take a very good performance with grit and application from psg to pull through. Capable on paper but it’s tough. I don’t know any other team other than Real who can turn a game on its head in the blink of an eye while not even playing that well.

It's the CL knockout stage, Ronaldo will get his customary brace and PSG will go out. :D

Off-side when Real Madrid got a penalty kick...

I enjoyed the match too. Yeah, PSG were actually squeezing, twisting and lifting! :p And yes, Mbappe was really poor. I have a feeling PSG can turn this around. And weirdly, I would fancy us more against them than Real.

The thread title changes have been more entertaining then the game.

PSG's defensive line is weak, even their central midfield isn't all that. Happy they lost. Real will devastate PSG in the second leg through counter attacks.

Pretty bold posting stuff like this implying you got robbed when Neymar should have been off for diving.
It would have been so funny to see Neymar red carded and suspended from the return leg after being signed for 200m to play those 2 games.

If only the referee didn't bottle it.

I don't see Real Madrid not going through. They need to score once for PSG to have to score 4 times to go through. Not gonna happen unless Real Madrid shit the bed.

I dont know. That seems a bit convenient for the front three.

CMs class I agree.

They need to score three to match this result. If they score first they're only another goal away from being ahead in the tie.

I do think Madrid will go through. PSG had Madrid on the mat at times and needed to put them away. But if PSG are clinical in the first half hour it is game on.

If anything, Hazard passes the ball TOO often when he's in front of the penalty box. Neymar had a good game against Real, but he was way too selfish in front of the penalty area.

PSG not conceding isn't likely to happen, specially with Ronaldo so for me they will have to score at least 4 goals to go through. Not seeing it.

Creating a great attacking opportunity through dribbling and then wasting it by overdribbling. Hazard releases the ball too late, neymar tried to shoot. Same result

" the grinch ref that stole christmass psg"

PSG need to send some more of that sweet qatari money to have a chance in CL :D
