I don't even think Neymar was that selfish, more that the execution of some of his passes at very key moments let him down. The weight of his passes under extreme pressure on the run, wasn't as precise as you would want from a guy aiming to be one of the greats of the game.

At Barca, where he'd be killed for any lackadaisical passes like that - no one calls him out on it at PSG. That is the real flaw in his performance the other day. Other than that, of course you want him running at defenders and trying to go win the game.. nothing wrong with that and they were finding it hard to handle him.

Yes, if you go by the book of course Neymar should have been red carded, but a referee needs some feeling for the game I think it was ok to let him play the whole game. Also other players made som dives like Modric for example.

What I don’t understand however is how it is possible that there wasn’t a second yellow at the penalty situation. I think rules are quite clear there.

This thread is the kind of thing I'd expect at Bluemoon, not the CAF. A shame that standards have fallen so low.

Indeed, it differs from your standards:

"We are leaderless and have been for years"
"I’m tired of watching this slow build up style."
"We will never win the league with Paul Pogba in the team"
"We will never win the league with Lukaku up front."
"We will never win another league title playing Sanchez, Pogba and Martial together..."
"We will never win the league with De Gea in goal"
"We will never win the league."
"Is Mourinho's style in big games outdated?"
"[Poll Added] Hypothetical: Next manager after Jose Mourinho"
"Pros and cons of keeping Jose as our manager."
"So are we signing anyone then this month?"
"Will Pogba ever become a match winner?"
"What is your second biggest disappointment ever by Man Utd after Paul Pogba"

Neymar not booked (and sent off)for diving, Lo Celso not booked (and sent off) indicate that the ref made mistakes against both sides.

In which world have you seen a player sent off for diving?

Modric did exactly the same but it's fine because he looks like an angel.

By the way, I don't want to do a listing of all the controversial referee decisions. Useless.

I think @Ecstatic moaning is a bit justified but above all good natured, more of a way to cope with the disappointment, and psg did get a couple big wrong decisions that impacted or could have impacted the game against them

He's not foaming at the mouth and calling for the ref to be castrated or seeing conspiracies everywhere

...am i reading you wrong?

Of course it is normal. I think the referee was quite decent, but helping a bit to the home team.
I think it was penalty to Kroos and not a hand(Ramos),although if would have happened to us I would say that was a soft penalty.
,so the most logical thing is to put some pressure. We would do the same. In fact we have won and we are already trying to break the PSG's dressing room

Oh I have seen it. It is a bookable offence and it would have been his second yellow card.
You cannot deny that he should have walked off otherwise your bias is blindin you

In theory but - for example - you know that for example 90% of cheaters who try to get a penalty kick don't receive a yellow card.

The rule is one thing, the average typical standard referring is another one.

Also, I don't remember seeing someone sent off for diving.

Neymar falls under strong scrutiny for the reasons you know. On the other hand, he receives a lot of blows!

To be honest, I am not so bothered by the result. After all, I am immunized after many disastrous games recently (City-PSG 2016, Barcelona-PSG 2017, Chelsea-PSG 2014..)

I am more disappointed by the coaching during the game.

Looking forward to the return!

We agree then :) Of course, the atmosphere within the club is now explosive!

Just saying that the ref made mistakes on both sides but the ref wasn't the big problem anyway. It is Emery being a pussy

The UK market is a specific one :wenger:

In this I am with Ecstatic. I see it understandable if it is the first yellow, to warn him and the others, but a second yellow for diving is to spoil the game.
In addition to setting the yellow card bar very low.
The referee has to be guided by the regulation but also by the circumstances of the match.
In any case the followers of English football are very sensitive to this issue.
Barcelona and Madrid hire specific referees sometimes.

One thing about Real's backline they may not be the most compact defense, however in terms of pace they are able to keep up with Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe. They did a decent job of not getting overrun in the last match.

As far a defenders go Varane, Ramos and Marcelo do have a lot of pace and especially did a great job on Mbappe. Can't believe Marcelo is still able to run up and down like that, he's been doing it a long time now and his motor is still going pretty strong.

The ref saw Neymar diving and it would not be wrong to send him off, other famous players have been sent off for that. For example In the beginning of this season Ronaldo got second yellow for diving against Barcelona in the supercup final.

And yes, Modric dived, but the referee got fooled and blew freekick. But that should of course also have been a yellow.

We already got yellow cards when the Real players were diving, it's greedy to also demand yellows when PSG players were diving.

And somebody compared you to bluemoon :wenger: madness i tells ya!

you're going to be pretty annoyed in a few weeks (and imagine when we buy Neymar), so I want to be empathic and pleasant with you mon ami :D
Brutal

Nacho is the fastest of them all. Which is many of us were happy to see him play on Neymar instead of carvajal. Still, Neymar just blew by him all game :nervous:

Neymar needs to take diving lessons from Modric

Why is there a 3 week gap to the next game?

So you think Lukaku has same level of technical ability as Benzema or Cavani.

Definitely not Benzema, but Lukaku has easily a higher technical ability than Cavani who's honestly fecking shite on ball tbh.

- Benzema is terrible now. And this isn't just a judgment based on this game, I have watched him all season and he is absolutely coasting on his name and reputation at this point.

Why do you suggest that Benzema was shite against PSG in mid-week?

If anything, Benzema's performance has been underrated and/or overlooked as he was pretty good.

https://streamja.com/rkV

- Holds up the ball in-between the lines.
- Drifting into the wings to provide width
- Pressed actively.
- Created some decent chances thanks to his great link-up play.

That's crazy if true. If truth be told I don't think Benzema ever become the striker I once thought he would when he was Lyon. You can see why they are being linked with Kane in Summer.

- 7th highest goalscorer in Real Madrid's history with a better goal ratio compared to legends like Raúl, Santillana etc.
- 4th highest goalscorer in Champions League for Real Madrid.
- 3rd behind Messi & Cristiano among La Liga's best assist makers since 2009/10.
- Consistently scored around 20 goals or more for several seasons.
- Being a key player for argubaly Real Madrid's best era since 50s/60s.

Pretty impressive contribution in a team that's designed to spoon-feed the ball to CR7 for years.

Also, Benzema was never an out-and-out striker (except 15/16 season) & used to fight with Higuain/Adebayor for playing time and being subbed out often.

I don't know why Real keep persisting with the useless Benzema

Benzema's goalscoring form might be underwhelming, but he's still a very important player for Madrid's general play nonetheless.

You aren't a starter for a club of Madrid's caliber for several years if you're completely shite.

Benzema should have been moved on about 4 years ago

Not really.

Real Madrid made a 100% correct decision for keeping Benzema who has been a key player for winning titles in recent years.

Regardless of wether or not Benzema is the main goalscorer, since the start of 2017 he's scored 15 goals in 54 matches. That's simply unacceptable for a Madrid starting forward and his link up play has massively declined from his peak years. He's still very good and when he's on he's perfect for this Madrid team but the problem now is that for every great game he has 3 terrible ones. They shouldn't sell him but they definitely need either a new starter or some competition, Firmino would be a good choice if they're looking for a similar player to compete with him, Kane would be the obvious choice if they're ready to spend a lot of money.

If they play Kane, what does Ronaldo do? Kane doesn't leave the box. Ronaldo can't be left to be a winger anymore, the striker has to leave the box for him, so Firmino would be the best choice. Although not a Florentino signing.

Ancelotti is the only missing piece in this PSG team for Champions League glory

Madrid will take this one without too much difficulty. In fact, I'd say they're still the #1 favorites to win this trophy. Most of their core players have the experience of winning the CL 3 times in the past 4 years, and aside from Ronaldo (who always seems to step up his game in these tournament matches that will give him his Ballon D'or anyway), are still near their prime. This matters a lot more when pulling through these elimination matches compared to sustaining a winning form over an entire season. On the other hand, PSG have the experience of spectacularly throwing a tie away last year.

The best solution would be to bin Ronaldo and sign someone like Hazard. If there's one team who can steal Hazard away from Chelsea, it'd be RM.

Kane participates in the build up and Ronaldo doesn't need players to leave the box, he needs another player in the box so he doesn't have 2 players marking him. I think they could work together even though spending 200 million on Kane would definitely not be the best solution imo. They should get Hazard and Firmino for the attack or something along those lines.

Is it just me that thinks tge relative ease of Ligue 1 fails to prepare PSG for these kind of matches?

If they are willing to spend the big money, Neymar would be perfect. At least on the paper, in reality I am not sure the two big egos could work together. It hasnt always been smooth between Neymar and Cavani. And maybe it is not realistic because I guess he would cost 2 x Mr Kane.

I definitely think this is the case. When Real Madrid put strong aggressive pressure, simultaneously from many offensive player, the PSG defence could not handle it. This kind of pressure you dont experience against Bastia or Rennes.
