Penalty for PSG..

Another great CL game to watch. PSG to win the 2nd leg but, possibly give up 1 or 2 goals in the problem. Ronaldo will be after that Ruud record of scoring 9 games in a row in the Champs League. So expect him to be quite ruthless.

This is why Neymar will never be able to be regarded as the same calibre as Messi or Ronaldo. Too selfish and plays for himself. Messi creates chances, assists for fun and scores himself and so does a younger Ronaldo.

He was still very dangerous though. He might very well be the best dribbler in the world right now, certainly the most exciting one. Tonight he scuffed a few shots, overhit a few passes and overdribbled but I still thought he had a pretty good game.

Should have been sent off for that dive though, he's still not mature enough.

Am I the only one who thought if you stopped the game at 80 minutes today you would say PSG were the better side on the night? They had the better chances, then just fell apart.

They did, in fact up until that point I thought Madrid had run out of steam. Two absolute sucker punches saved the day. People in this forum are too caught up on scores.

Maybe the best way to play Madrid is to park the bus Jose style and try to get Madrid to break the opposition down. A lot of the goals scored by them is when the game is stretched or on the counter.

You won't stop Real Madrid parking the bus, they usually bomb you with crosses, if you park the bus the only thing that changes if that they're going to be crossing 15M further away, but it's not like that's going to stop Modric, Kroos, Marcelo, Carvajal or Bale from putting good crosses, those are one of the better players in the world for that.

Then, you have Ronaldo fighting every ball, Benzema acting as a decoy and if the cross comes from the left you have Bale heading too, ocasional Ramos/Varane and, to round it up, Kroos, Modric and Casemiro breaking the ball into your goal from outside the area.

You need to take the ball away from them, you risk getting countered but, at this point, their counter is better in our memory than in the pitch, they're still a great team at it but nowhere what they used to be with Mourinho imo.

I don't know what people expect from Neymar. Id pay 200m to have a player capable of driving up the field as well as he can. Yeah he might have bad games in front of goal, but more time than not his runs will result in to goals for his team.

Hoping Madrid get the early away goal (or two) and put this one to bed quickly.

This might be their best (only?) chance at silverware this season.

You need a Real Madrid reject to pull that like Morientes did for Monaco, sadly for you, is OL who got Mariano

Dunno mate , even during their cl wins I can’t really remember them dominating any game it was the devastating counters and Ronaldo being so clinical which has got them through.

What I realised tonight though is how far behind in football terms we are to these other big teams. PSG are much better on the ball than I ever thought. We are dinosaurs in comparison.

Was thinking the same, the way their defenders and midfielders keep the ball is on another level to us.

Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi believes Real Madrid were helped by the referee in their Champions League first leg win.

Madrid came out on top 3-1 but PSG felt Sergio Ramos should have been sanctioned for a handball with the score at 1-1 and Al-Khelaifi joined Coach Unai Emery in complaining about Gianluca Rocchi’s performance with the whistle.

“The result was not fair. I think we played better in the second half, we had our chances to score, but we made mistakes,” he said, AS reports.

“[Kylian] Mbappe was called offside when he wasn’t. The referee’s mistakes have cost us a lot. The referee helped Madrid.

“We have to think about the next 90 minutes. We’ll play at home, in our stadium, with our fans, and I think we can qualify. We’ll do everything to recover and reach the quarter-finals. It’ll be very hard for Madrid.”

Zinedine Zidane reveals he brought Isco into the Real Madrid starting XI to play Paris Saint-Germain to ‘control’ the Champions League encounter.

Madrid came away from the first leg with a 3-1 win thanks to a goal from Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace but it was the presence of Isco ahead of Gareth Bale that was most discussed pre-match.

“With Isco I looked for control of the ball and we had it, with four in the middle against three of them. Isco had a great game,” Zizou said post-match, AS reports.

“We played a great team game, from the beginning. It was a well-deserved victory. We’re very happy with the result and with the content of the game. We had personality, and our fans were behind the team at all times.”

Zidane though denied the tie is over before the second leg, warning against complacency when Madrid go to Paris in March.

“Winning 3-1 isn’t over. There is a return game, we have to play it and not be overconfident because it’s going to be another story and we know we’re going to suffer.”

Sour grapes from PSG.

Emery aggrieved after Madrid defeat

Unai Emery felt Paris Saint-Germain should have had a penalty in their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid, but says his side aren’t out of the Champions League yet.

Handball could have been given against Sergio Ramos with the scores at 1-1 and Emery suggested post-match that the result would have been different had Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi done his job.

“I was told there could have been a hand by Ramos. I didn’t see it but I was told what it was…it’s the referee’s job and if it’s a penalty you have to call it,” the ex-Sevilla Coach said, AS reports.

“It’s not a matter of justification. I think we can come back if the referee’s decisions don’t go the other way.

“My feelings are contradictory. At 1-1 they were strengthened by a very doubtful decision of the referee. After we were better with the ball and in control, always with the ambition to score a second goal, and a doubtful decision has opened the possibility of a comeback.

“Madrid can hurt you with fast transitions. If we had been more accurate and if the referee had been a more balanced judge we could have drawn or even won because we were closest to 2-1 from the 70th minute.

“They are the favourites because they’re the Champions League holders and because they’ve won it three of the last four times, but we have the capacity to overcome them.”

Underrated Florentino-Ref job. Soft penalty (touching someone's elbow is not a penalty). Ramos saves a goal with his arm. Even Madrid's 2nd goal could be a Cristiano foul considering how many soft fouls Madrid were awarded.

It's easy to be clutch and good in big moments when you get every big break from the ref. That penalty is the little push they needed.

Grow up!

Why did Neymar not get sent off for a clear dive then, if the ref was giving Real all the big breaks?

Pretty pissed that the ref bottled that 2nd yellow for the Neymar dive. What message does that send to players? "oh you can dive but we just won't punish you for it"?

The message was already sent.

Everyone is talking about Neymar's dive and how he should've been sent off, when between this and another tackle he did a little later (on Mbappe I think), Kroos had the same chances to get sent off before he got the penalty and with an hour of the game still to be played.

No one is showing a red card to Neymar for what he did, chill a little, people.

Yeah that is comparable to the Ramos goalkeeping and that ridiculous penalty when Madrid had a bunch of question marks in their heads at 0-1.

If you throw in that, Kroos should have been sent off for a much worse dive.

Really? '14 home game against dortmund, we gegenpressed Klopp into oblivion. We absolutely dominated Atletico in the final as well. Against bayern we played on the counter by choice, and our counterattack was ridiculous that season.
'16 wolfsburg home, city home&away.
'17 Napoli at home, Atletico at home, Bayern first half at home, Juventus second half

For a great team we've been average on the counter since 15/16

thought the ref did ok....no way Ramos can do anything about that shot- I didn't think he used his arm

Neymar deserved a second yellow for that dive - thought his first yellow was a bit hasty

Lo Celso could have been sent off too....

overall I think the ref did well though I do agree that in past seasons Real have gotten some dubious decisions in their favour

I don't think he saw Kroos dive. Way the ball bounced it looked like a challenge on the ball and then contact, so a normal play

The Ramos handball, the biggest tell is the position of his left arm compared to the right. It's close to the body, but it's intentionally not tucked in. Defo a penalty for me

Big club against village club spearheaded by a clown who overlooks his teammates, dribbles into multiple defenders and throws himself on the ground.

Expected exactly this result.

I think that Pep is nailed on PSG after he finished his 2-3 years stint at City.

Arabs will be throwing rediculous money at the other Arabs for his services.

Doubt he will go there. They have no structure of planning like City. I thnik City might be his last job tbh.

No chance. He says he wants to manage Brazil. It'll be a while before that so he'll probably go to a top club in each of the best leagues. So Italy/France is next.

Can't see him going to France though but can see him going to Italy. He has stressed he wants to retire relatively young.

Fantastic game; Zidane's subs!

PSG are very unlucky but you could see Real simply have that experience and nous in the final third.
Marcello for pass of the evening for the one that Ronaldo blasted into the GK face.
That referee and offcials were mega poor; deserved that boot.
Modric dived blatantly.
I'd recommend PSG simply have to go full throttle at home right away if they want to progress but then I wouldn't fancy them to hold on even if they went 2-0 up.

I must add, the match was entertaining and fantastic as a neutral with 2 issues:
1) SHOW THE F'ing match; This surely can't go on - close up after replya after close up and we keep missing tricks and plays because the match director thinks we want close-up all the time.

2) BT Sports: Stop discussing and spoiling your OTHER product; the Liverpool match was ruined for me as I knew the score. Stop updating us.

Didn't really see too much talk about it but I thought Casemiro had a pretty bad game, he's not good enough on the ball and defensively he didn't really do a good job at stopping PSG's counters.

Having watched these two teams play today, it’s amazing the difference in quality these two teams have vs our team. We are no where near having the level of quality as these European elites.

Absolutely enjoyable to see their abilities on the ball and their abilities in general. So calm under pressure and the technically gifted ability to get out of a tight jam while playing with ease and enjoyment.

Advancing after a 1-3 loss on the road doesn't really require a miracle.

Chances for the 2nd leg are probably similar to the Tottenham - Juventus matchup.

Started well and did some good things throughout but mostly the game kind of passed him by. Became useless in the second half, which is why Zidane took him off
