Robinho only went to City because he desperately wanted to leave Madrid and he had dug himself a hole at madrid, no way back from it. City were only club willing to pay the asking price

Chelsea???
City just offered HIM more money and I would suspect discovering very late that the Arabs had taken over, was persuaded to join them by the agent realising more and more big names would be likely to join allowing leverage for contract renewal based on their wages, in short a cash cow of unlimited proportions for him and Robinho...

They didn't meet Madrid's asking price

Hmmmm, I think for the sake of a few million quid difference for what City paid, you would have seen him sign for Chelsea on deadline day - Real wanted the cash and Chelsea wanted him and likewise, it wasn't until the madness of the A-Rabs coming in so suddenly that it changed the fortunes involves for all....

from BBC

" After missing out on Robinho, Chelsea issued a statement saying they were unable to agree a deal with Real as they were not prepared to pay the Spanish club's asking price. "

This seems like a very unlikely transfer but I wouldnt rule it out. Stranger things have happened in football.

Have they though? Short of Gary Neville suddenly linked with a move to Liverpool I don't really think there's been such a surprising transfer rumour as this before.

Robinho did.
I don't think Shearer would have signed for Newcastle unless Ginola and Asprilla hadn't have signed for them the season before.

Robinho is more of a knob than the golden boy Kaka, if he is to leave Milan why not go to a great club like Madrid, barca, or United

Sky are after quoting the Daily Mail I think anyhow some of tomorrows papers that they have offered 100m in cash and the player 500,000 a week, total madness

What's surprising about it? City have a squillion squid to spend, what are they going to do with it, sit there like 50 Cents and 'watch da money pile up'? It's there to be spent, the owners have stated as such and even went to the unprecedented lengths, albeit very naively, to state they will makes bids for players such as Ronaldo, Kaka, Torres etc. I am not surprised one bit with the speculation and will raise my eyes yet not be shocked if a player, and/or players, such as Kaka and his calibre arrive at Manchester City.
My own opinion is it will take one or two to come first and be prepared and willing to miss out on at least one season of Champions League football, that is the only downturn although as Bayern and Milan have shown, they can still attract high quality players such as Ribery, Toni, Ronaldinho and Mr Beckham without the attraction of the European Cup for one season. The big question is who's willing to take the plunge, but if one does, more will follow; exciting times ahead for our Blue cousins......

I'm not surprised, soon it will be 1 mil a week for a player like Ronaldo or Messi. I have to say if you are making that much a week, what motivation do you have to get any better, if you play out a 5 year contract you could have servants for the rest of your life and never have to play another match of football in your life. Money of that sums would have to lead to some sort complacency, possibly starting your own business and focusing on it more than football.

Because of the money and the sense of being able to say 'I was the first GREAT one here before they all came', which they will, trust me, it may take a while but they will come to City....
It might not even work; Middlebrough took the plunge with the money they had in the mid-Nineties and bought Juninho, Ravanelli (which is still one of the most surprising transfers in British history in my opinion) and Emerson. It didn't work out but it was a bold move for Boro at that time...

Wouldn't Robinho be the first great though? I'm not saying he is not gonna, but Robinho was always gonna go once the Arabs offered the big bucks, reckon he will be pissed off about Kaka's contract, isnt Robinho on only 180k/week or something

maybe it is only 150k or 160k, regardless it is a huge sum

Maybe in Aussie dollars, not in English quid.
I meant by great, the first BIG name player in that bracket, forget about fecking Craig Bellamy and Craig Parker, I'm talking about players like Robinho, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Cannavaro, Torres, Ronaldo, Messi, Buffon etc. I would count Robinho in that upper echelon of players, certainly well above Bellamy and Given who they've been linked with.

What if the A-rabs said to Kaka they will fund a £50m church or orphanage named after him back in Brazil? Money finds a way.

They wouldnt do that, it would be against there religion to promote Christianity, if he is on 500k/ week he could do it himself quite easily by the end of his career

Please you lot are morons who claim that the Sun, Tribal, etc are bollocks and then get all surprised when they say a 100 million quid and a million pounds a week- bunch of muppets. How many articles have been written claiming this crap since they took over? And now you lot are believing this? They're businessmen for feck sakes, they're aren't morons to spend a 100 million quid because then everyone would be asking that kind of money and wouldn't go unless they paid that knowing they would have to. So buying ten players is already a billion excluding the massive wages that would have to be paid. These lot are VERY VERY rich but throwing close to billions on a squad- please they aren't stupid. If they want those kinds of players and aren't getting them after 5 years, they'll sell and just buy a United, Liverpool, etc where it'll come automatically. The debt we're in would be cleared in a week and they'd have a team already set up for less than buying people at these prices.

They said they'd wait and they will in my opinion. Probably not on Hughes but let's be honest Hughes has done a terrible job so far and hasn't picked up really anyone to take them to the next level. Bridge was excellant don't get me wrong but they can steady the ship AND take it to the next level at the same time but Hughes just doesn't have the experience to do that.

In my opinion? It'd of been way wiser to attract a big name manager because players would trust it more. Hughes hasn't done very much of anything, why would Kaka sign for him? Whereas in the same boat Jose would sign huge stars because they'd know what they'd get.

At this rate, Hughes out by the summer, a big big name manager takes over at the beginning with the summer to play around in and that's when the game really begins and the derby games will be a battle ground  Always up for some competition!!

I don't know what Shitty are offering him but he had already refused Real despite paying him double what Milan currently pays him. Maybe Ill be mistaken but I can't see Kaka leaving unless AC Milan kicks his butt out of Italy.

I can see this happening. These south americans will be thinking they're signing for us.

First thing Kaka will be asking at the press conference will be "Where's Sir Alex?"

At the end of the day if true.Kaka will decide and i can't see him choosing shitty.

For 500.000 a week I can. Only thing is he may want to see if City survive and wait with the transfer until the end of the season.

Kaka will go down in my estimation if he moves to City.

But will 500'000 make up for playing for a shite team without any ambitions? Maybe for some, but not for everyone, especially when you already have more than enough money
