City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with numerous FFP breaches | Hearing begins 16th September 2024

I don't understand why so many are being so negative about this. If there is one thing the last 11 years have taught me, it's that dominance doesn't last forever. The more dominant a club is, the harder they seem to fall.

City have already suffered two major defeats in court, plus Lord Guardiola has lost 4 games in a row for the first time in his career. A lot of their players are getting older and are injury prone, plus this most recent loss in court will make it harder for them to fund transfers through their phony sponsorships.

There's no way they're going to be found innocent on all 130 charges. They're going to get pinged for something.

The end of their reign is nigh.

I agree, but I don't think they will disappear, I think they are competition for CL spots whatever happens.

Results like this make me feel better about Ineos buying stake.
If it were the Qataris, we would have most likely been on the same side as City.

Yeah being on the same side as them would have left a very sour taste in the mouth

Not necessarily, wouldn't it depend on how the two countries view each other? Which is mad in and of itself. Is Newcastle supporting city, btw?

Self interests would be aligned, it would be an easy way to increase club income in order to spend more money elsewhere.

I just wonder what the reaction would be from clubs like Spurs, Arsenal, United, Liverpool etc if City somehow escaped on yet another technicality

There'd be huge fan backlash I think. Boycotting games etc.

What I'd like to see happen, is to see other teams simply refuse to play them.

“I read something about the situation and how you need to be relegated immediately,” said Guardiola. “Seventy-five per cent of the clubs want it, because I know what they do behind the scenes and this sort of stuff. But I don’t live with it, I live with the four defeats, what I have to do. There are lawyers on both sides.

“I prefer not to be in that position but once it’s there, I love it. Because when you believe in your club, and the people there. I believe what they say to me and the reasons why. I said, “OK, let’s see”. I cannot say yet because we’re awaiting the sentence in February or March – I don’t know when – but at the same time, I like it.”

man just loves to play the martyr. It's actually impressive how long you can play the victim without getting bored. Insufferable cnut.

Probably more along the lines of those in glass houses shouldn't be throwing stones. Implying everyone is at it to varying degree.
He's a cheeky little prick if that's what he is meaning.

I doubt every other club is squeaky clean themselves, but no way are any other clubs anywhere near as guilty as what City are.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" it sounds like. Hell of a leap from a shifty deal or two to an entire squad founded on dirty actions, mind.

Only vaguely related to City but I can understand why they would vote against the APT changes, as they're clearly using shareholder money to inflate their income to get around fair play rules, and it seems that their current court case involves this too. And I can see why Newcastle and Villa did - they both have hyper rich owners but relatively poor income when compared to the "big 6" so can inflate theirs too. But why Forest? Their owners are not very wealthy at all for Premier League standards. Wouldn't Ipswich, who voted for the changes, benefit a lot more than Forest due to their owner's wealth? Are Forest making more use of shareholder transactions than the other teams outside of Newcastle/Villa/big 6?

Funny to hear him talking about getting them back up again, oh come on he's know Premier League haven't the guts to make an example of them

Let’s see how Billy Big Bollocks he acts once City are actually relegated and face the prospect of playing Wycombe Wanderers with diminishing club attendances.

So it seems Guardiola going from publicly insisting innocence to implying while everybody’s doing it so we’re no worse than anyone else’s. Are they losing confidence of being cleared over there.

Relegation to the championship wouldn't even count as a punishment. It would be a total laugh for them. A season of thrashing every team, then right back to the usual shite in the PL. If they're not decimated, they've won.

I don’t think it would be the worst.
Assuming they’d be stripped of all titles in the process.

That would mean at least 3 seasons outside of Europe.

They’d also have to comply with Championship FFP rules so I assume their astronomical wages would have to be slashed, meaning the loaning or selling of players as well.

It might not be thrown out of the league, but there would still be a knock on effect

Yeah exactly. The punishment - whatever it is - needs to see their state sponsored owners leave plus make it clear to the other state owned clubs that football is not a viable option for sportswashing via domination.

Even if they are relegated to the conference, they will still likely be in Europe every season if they can keep some of their squad together.

All they need is a cup win and they will be in Europa. And if they win the Champions league, that's another season for them. Then they just have a jolly for a few years battering teams 8-0 every game until they are back in the Prem.

Real punishment would be forcing the owners out.

It won’t happen that way, not in this instance. Perhaps it might, in the long run, depending on the mood music and the politics. But don’t forget alll the clamour (and votes) when some in here thought Qutar might come knocking.

If they got relegated to the Conference neither Gaurdiola or any of their top players would stick around. They have a mostly ageing squad and they wouldn't be able to sign top players anymore.

I'm pretty certain his time at City has made him a billionaire, plus whatever assets they've given to him and his brother; he's finished the game and has already got his legacy wrapped up. Any smart narration can absolve him and even make a martyr out of him - how noble he would look taking them back up to the PL if the fantasy of them being relegated actually happened, for example.

Serving a bit of "time" but getting to keep all of those ill gotten gains is a trade off he'd probably take 10 times out of 10. If the worst came to the worst in the eyes of them being punted out of the league, Pep can easily come out of that smelling of roses. He may also have a clause that has him able to exit should it happen.

So long as his real earnings and gifts are never revealed, Pep has Keyser Soze'd out of City with a grin and a rosy future ahead of him and an "amazing" legacy left behind, no matter what happens.

If they were relegated to the Conference they wouldnt be elligible for European Football as UEFA rules state that only teams in the top 2 tiers of domestic Football are elligible for their competitions.

If found guilty the only acceptable punishment is expulsion from the EPL with re-entry only available with new owners with no contact with the old owners.

The it’s up to the football league to decide if they would also allow cheats into their system, but they should really do the same as the EPL.

City would then have to start in non league but can only advance if there’s new owners in place

Lots of people in the City system should be facing jail time because it pretty much comes down to major financial fraud. The players, staff and agents who took dodgy deals over the years should also be banned for some time.

They should have an additional year's ban from promotion to the PL for each year that they've refused to cooperate, meaning their first x promotions won't count. That's 6 years and counting.

That’s my position on it as well. It shouldn’t be a timed ban - but open ended while owners who have held the sport to ransom, costing the rest of the league tens of millions in costs with their deceit and cheating are still involved in any way.

I’m happy for Manchester City the club not to be relegated at all, so long as the state who own them currently and have been behind the cheating end their involvement.
