City agree £30m fee with Swansea for Bony

You think Falcao was unquestionably the greatest striker on Earth, and to even question whether or not that's true is laughable?

Fair enough, mate.

You're more full of gas than your namesake.

Lets wait til the end of the season and see how many Bony scores for City and compare to how many Falcao gets for us.

I think Falcao will probably score more tbh.

Bony strikes me as quite a similar style striker to Aguero. Certainly nothing like Dzeko.

I think Pellegrini is basically hiring Aguero's back up here on the assumption that he's going to continue getting injured. Perhaps this'll allow him to sub Aguero more regularly with a more competent like for like replacement to stop so many injuries.

Aguero? He is physically twice the size isnt he?

Fair enough, hopefully he will.

But Bony is the PL's leading goalscorer in 2014 and he's just gone to a club where chances will be on a plate for him.

Hmm one is returning to form from a long term serious injury and plays in a team being remodled whilst the other is in the best form of his life and would be in a ready made team. You like a safe bet dont you?

I wasn't talking about physically similar, but in terms of a lot of similarities in their games. They are both stocky guys but Bony is taller I think.

City fans believing Valencia will ever find £25m for Negredo....good one.

He'll be watching the Aguero show. Hes a good player though but the Swansea attack has been built around him, it won't be the case at City.

Great signing for City I think, this gives them great fire power and options upfront, the price seems a bit steep but no ones going to care if they win the league, and I think they will do now.

I do!

And if I was a defender that's why I'd rather play against Falcao than Bony any day of the week!

Good signing especially since their strikers are injured. Negredo is gone and Jovetic will likely be sold.

Was he though? And even if he was, how long does he get to dine out on past achievements? That's for the Falcao thread, I guess.

What I will say is that Bony's stats are very impressive everywhere he's been -

Sparta Prague - played 59 scored 22
Vitesse - played 65 scored 46
Swansea - played 54 scored 22

And he's just turned 26 and is PL proven. He's a far greater threat than Falcao imo.
Yeah. In his last season at Atletico it was between him, Van Persie and Zlatan for best striker around imo. I can understand where you're coming from with your second question but he's reached a higher level than Bony ever has and is still in his prime years so I can understand why his fee might be higher.

Valencia have a new owner, I'm sure they could easily find £25m for Negredo. Whether they'll pay that for him is another matter.

It's not. Sturridge is one of the best centre forwards in rehab, Bony is a significant step down in quality. Sturridge offers so much more than Bony while still getting injured more than Bony does.

fixed.

I'm happy with this transfer, tbh. For City he would be third choice, so he wouldn't improve them so much. Had he gone to Pool or Spurs or even Arsenal it would've been much worse. Also City will still be short on strikers for the next few weeks and with this much spent now they will not be able to spend much more in the summer.

They're injured, but they'll be long back by the time Bony is back from the African Nations.

Odd one for me.

Isn't it already a basically done deal with Valencia already confirming it? Would imagine the clubs would of soted it all out before hand...from what I've heard about Negredo as well City really wanted him out rather than try and get the money upfront, hence the loan deal then sign at the end of the season.

I think Bony is a really good signing, though seem in the minority on here, he's a pretty consistent scorer at Premier League level and you'd assume in a better team it's not to outlandish to suggest he will score more. There may be better strikers around the world but they have never played in the Premier League, he brings that proof he is a success here. None of City's strikers seem to have the ability to stay fit either so he'll get games I think.

Never get why people say "He's not worth it" or get so bothered about money, it's not your money. If the buyer thinks he's worth the money then that's all the matters. What is he not worth it in comparison to exactly? City will never get a deal like a team such as Villa as clubs know they can afford more than every other team in the world and therefore they pay more.

Would rather he sit on the bench for City then start games for Liverpool, that's for damn sure.

Couldn't care less about the fee. It's not my money. Although I guess it's good that it probably puts a bit more FFP pressure on them in the summer.

This is exactly how I feel. Hoping this goes through for the £30M fee bandied around.

Stopped caring about the money because really, it doesn't matter.

That aside I think it's a great signing. He's a tremendous presence in the box and as his goal last week showed can poke a ball home with all kinds of ingenuity.

Also an alround good player and will be a good focal point. Could be a very good signing!

Besides adding some depth for City, could they be willing to spend for him just to keep him from other clubs? Surely, it would not be the major reason for signing him, but could play into it?

Can see why people think he is overpriced as he is a limited player, but he will get goals. He is a 20 goal per season player and would likely end with that or more had he stayed at Swansea.

I can't believe we of all people are saying City overpaid. I think 30 million pound for Bony is extremely good bit of business for City. Its really cheap. He is a premiership proven striker who will get you 25 goals a season and with City's creativity around him, he could get more. He is 26 and got the best years ahead of him. Chelsea paid 50 million for Torres, we paid 37 million for weakling Juan Mata and are about to pay around 40 million for Falcao. On those grounds, 30 million for Bony is dirt cheap.

With Bony's ability to drift off his marker, I see him working well with Silva. Good signing for them even with the Cup of Nations absence.

Expensive, yes, but not out of market norms of late

Good striker but steep price. Negredo offered more in my opinion, but then again Bony is a goal scorer...

Mind you so was Carroll before Liverpool bought him...

As was Shevchenko.....

The PL is in good shape...yeah.
Crazy money. High risk. Agüero must have really big injury trouble.

No, and that's what not you replied to so don't try to twist it. I do however think the he was unquestionably one of the greatest strikers. Whether he becomes a great striker for United remains to be seen. But if he can get back to being close to his best he'll be worth twice as much as Bony as far as I'm concerned, unless Bony steps up big time.

It's a lot of money for a back up, but in the circumstances understandable. City won't mind, and as back ups go having someone who bagged 27 last season is not to be sniffed at. But as I think it was pogue said, better he sits on City's bench than in Liverpool's starting XI.

Good player but I don't see the value in the deal.

We've seen countless examples of good Premier League players going to bigger clubs and not being able to make an impact when going from being the first name on the team sheet to squad player. I just don't see Bony being first choice when others get fit.

With that in mind it's much better he went to City than Arsenal or Liverpool and that's 30 Million out of City's diminished transfer kitty.
