Christian Eriksen | Signs for Manchester United

Nothing will be announced officially with any players who have contracts finishing this month until the 30th or 1st - as that is when they officially become free agents out of contract - even Pogba hasn’t signed his new Juve deal as technically he is still a Utd player until the 30th.

Normally if a player was going to stay with the existing club then they could announce a new contract/extension anytime so I’d assume that he won’t be resigning for Brentford otherwise would have just come out and said so - could be Utd or A.N.Other team?
Real Madrid announced Rüdiger already.

I know we don't know much about what happened to Eriksen, but what process do you think he's been through that gives both the doctors and himself the confidence that he could return to professional football again? Beyond just the pacemaker, I mean.

A lot of tests, scans and the like. If they weren't able to determine the cause of the cardiac arrest, literally the sudden cessation of operations of that muscle, then it's just as likely to have been a one off as something that will happen again.

If some of the tests show that his heart wasn't damaged, is otherwise strong and can take the demands of physical activity then there isn't a lot to worry about. The defib implant will jolt the heart back into action immediately if he has another arrest, which massively reduces the likelihood of him suddenly dying again.

This is a completely different situation from heart attack (which usually results when your arteries are fecked and your heart doesn't get enough blood), and heart failure (when your heart can't pump blood effectively). Both of those conditions are likely to repeat or worsen with or without treatment and putting strain on the heart with physical activity is dangerous for either situation.

Great insight.

and if Eriksen agrees to join, the club will perform the necessary medical checks needed to ensure he is healthy and able.

What's Eriksen getting paid at Brentford right now and does the club have any plans to increase his salary with United trying to lure him away?

We didn't break our wage structure to bring him in in January so would imagine he was on somewhere between 30-40k a month max. We have now offered what has been described as the biggest contract in our history, we can't compete with United on wages and aren't a club that gets involved in auctions so would imagine he has been offered that max we are comfortable with and that's that.

Fingers crossed we have done enough to convince him, that joining us would be worthwhile. He would be a fantastic free signing

Interesting, thanks for posting this.

How safe would it be to assume he was diagnosed with something similar to the bolded, given he showed no signs of a repeat incident whilst playing for Brentford last season?

I see, thanks.

An odd take. Football is increasingly a squad game, signing players who are better than your backups but not as good as your starters is wise if you want to improve. Just as City signing Kalvin Phillips.

I’ve been called a lot worse, but this thread is full of the dumbest takes I think I’ve ever seen on the internet, and that is quite the bar.
I don’t want to sign any more players who cannot challenge properly for a place in the first 11 and, in the first instance expect to get in. Signing players who are regarded only good enough to be squad players is nuts in my opinion. We have to sign first team starters and push the shit that’s currently starting for us onto the bench so that they have to raise their game or leave.

Regarding Phillips, he might not step up to be a regular starter for City but, in my opinion he has been bought with that end in mind. He would walk into our team anyway so I’m not sure why you would chose him as an example to support your point.

are people forgetting he was the best player on the pitch when we played against them at the end of the season?

There are people who believe Covid isn't real.
There are also people who believe Phelan shorts were the appropriate length.
There are people who believe the earth is flat.
There are people who believe Trump is better than Jesus.
I could go on.

Thanks for the info. Out of interest, where did you get it. A proper American doctor, I hope.

Not bothered if he doesn't come to United. He's a free agent starting 1 July and United has offered him a contract. It would be a shrewd deal if United get him. Brentford has been in the driver's seat as they have provided him with football again and most importantly, he's at a place and level where he's extremely comfortable at this moment in time.

The fact that United and EtH have identified him as a possible signing is positive. You don't hear any other club who could use a player like him, which there are many, remotely close to signing him.

I wish they player all the best and hope he can continue to enjoy his football and be ready to represent his country during the WC. Whoever he chooses, it has been a great outcome for the player since last year.

I don't care how good he is or might be for United. If he's seriously mulling over coming to us because Brentford have put an offer on the table also then he doesn't want to play for us badly enough.

Isn't that what we were trying to avoid?

We should only sign players who are hungry to play for us.

If we had CL this season, decision would probably be easier for him and other players we are interested in.

He's guaranteed a starting spot for Brentford, at United he's competing with Bruno. Plus he has a heart condition and would be coming into a high pressure environment at United under a coach who demands a lot from his players physically.

Good luck with that, FDJ will come here kicking and screaming, and Eriksen is understandably thinking over staying where his family are settled over coming to what has become a graveyard for top/decent players.

I would love him here, but wouldn't blame him one bit for staying at Brentford.

Daley Blind has exactly the same condition and he’s flourished under ETH.
There is a isn’t half some crap posted in here.

Brentford's new stadium is in Kew

Peddling this rubbish again I see - it is not in Kew it is in Brentford, Hounslow, West London.

Would be like saying Old Trafford is in Salford not Manchester....

I predict that he will sign for a club that finished in the bottom half of the league last year.

I certainly wouldn't blame him either but we need to get out of the mindset of trying to convince players to come and play for us. Yes, I know we have fallen well down in the pecking order but either we stick to our principles and sign players who believe coming to United is a "dream move" or we continue to sign journeymen.

It's weird to think there are players who would wilfully play badly because they never really wanted to join.

I thought professional sportsmen would practice their art to the best of their ability during their relatively short careers?

Of all the transfer windows we need to not have this stance it's this one, we are desperate for top players and if that means dragging them here then I don't care tbh. If we're just going for the 'dream move' players then we'll be buying mostly be buying rubbish atm, and FDJ should be staying where he is.

Hopefully if ETH is as good as people think he is then we can take the moral high ground again next summer.

Brentford took a chance on him when nobody else would. It's understandable him having that feeling of appreciation for them.

Does this have to be repeated for every transfer target out there? Eriksen is not considering Brentford only for football reason. We have lost players like Bale to Spurs before and look how they turned out. You cant just always walk away from players who are hesitant or have doubts.

Paraphrasing Detective Bunk Moreland (known to be a humble motherfecker with a big ass dick) from The Wire.

Is this how we have to reference quotes from now on? Because I have absolutely no idea how big Rudyard Kipling’s dick is. I mean, we can be pretty sure he’s packing some serious heat, but….

If that is the case then it's a shame Pogba has left then isn't it?
