Christian Eriksen | Signs for Inter

How's that meant to help Eriksen with his short term goals of winning trophies and playing in the CL?

Right now you're not a club well suited to those goals. He wants a move to a Real/Barca type team who are also monster clubs, but also still at the top of their game.

Spurs isn't too, except offering CL this season. Poor guy even forgot what it feels to celebrate a trophy, any trophy.

27 years old, won feck all at Spurs and he can put "Played in CL" in his CV though.

You'd swear Spurs are a European giant the way their fans bang on.

They've had a few better season than us granted - we've still won more trophies than them during that time.

We are and always will be a bigger pull than them. If it came to him joining us or signing a new deal - he's coming here.

Neither will happen though as there are actual European giants in a better position than ourselves.

Yeah that 50K is going to change everything when he can get shit loads more when he moves to different club.

Ronaldo wanted to leave so badly, signed contract and still left. Signing contract doesn't mean players stay forever. Public won't know what's the agreement between player and the club. For all we know, new contract with better wages is to get 1 more season from him before allowing him to leave.

But why reward him when he has been a total tool, and he wont get shit loads more at another club, who will offer Pogba more than £350K a week?

How is a total tool? Because he wanted out?

Reward him as he agrees to stay for 1 more year, gives his best and then leave. It's not even new thing. It's something that has happened many times and will continue.

There are plenty of clubs who will offer shit loads of money for Pogba. They won't get to though as clubs won't meet the huge asking fee. fecking Coutinho is paid more than that.

You show me anywhere where any Spurs fan has said we are as big a club as United? Its simply a lazy post. You are clearly head and shoulders above us stature wise. Your point in bold is simply opinion, if he signs a new contract your response will be "oh United were never in for him".

“We won’t pay it” based on what? We are negotiating a 80m for Maguire, it is a given we would have paid the same (or roundabouts) for Eriksen. Besides, Woodward would have come out of this as a hero

Of course, if we follow this route some players should be sold afterwards - but not because we don’t have monies, but rather because Eriksen won’t be rotated much.
We are not going to pay it because investing 80m in a not-so-young-anymore Eriksen would mean that we could not offer him more in wages than what Spurs are offering; probably around 200k. That would not even make financial sense (which tbf is our major pull) for Eriksen himself, and there is three parties to a transfer.
If he came on a free it would be different, then we could offer him Ramsey-money.
That said, the 80m figure is BS, and even more the idea that Levy of all persons would keep him on principle.
But even more said, he is not coming here for the reasons Squishy and InLevyITrust has stated.
Expect him to sign a pre-contract with a Spanish club, Bayern, PSG in January. Or even one of the big Italian clubs with their new tax system over there.

I'd love him here. No way Spurs would sell him to us for less than a fortune. No way he'd leave to join us.

Over rated player, he's a good player but he's not on the level Michael Carrick was let alone world class level like scholes.

Personally I would rather stay away from Spurs players, I wouldn't give Levy a dime.

Thanks for informing me we've won no trophies. I forgot about that.

The main reason he wants to move is so he can change that. He's not going to a club who are even less likely to challenge for the league/cl in the short term future, how would that make sense? He's not moving for a better chance at the league cup.

That's why Real/Barca makes sense, shit I'm not Glaston and think that even if a PSG/Juve came in strongly for him he'd be gone. But I don't see any way he'd be looking at the current state of Manchester United and thinking that's his best shot to get some trophies at the end of his career, because it isn't. If he leaves us it's for an elite club who are in a position to win stuff.

Fecking what ?!

How he conducted himself by saying he wanted out, if that doesn't bother you fine that's your call but from the reaction on here there is a fair few who weren't. Come on there aren't plenty of clubs who would offer more than £350K a week for Pogba, Real, Barca, possibly PSG (but they are having difficulties with FFP).

Stay at same club win feck all and make less money.

Move to bigger club which has history of winning trophies (big or small) and make lot more money.

It really isn't, players and certainly ones with agents like fat face do this constantly to bleed as much money as possible, if Pogba really wanted to leave so badly he wouldn't sign a new contract that would keep his value high. Rooney did the same thing. Player gets more cash, agent gets a big fee, rinse and repeat.
I would argue that the main reason that more players are not seeing out their contracts is the risk it entails. Like a major injury or just a Sanchez-like dip of form. To sign a new improved long-term contract is to hedge your bets compared to the possible bigger windfall free agency would mean.

Levy won’t sell to us.

For £70m or lose him for free he will do. Spurs can’t afford to lose a player like Eriksen for free.

Eriksen can sit on his contract for 12 months though and pick up a huge signing fee next summer which I expect to happen.

He said maybe its time for new challenge and apart from that he didn't even give a single interview.

So is Eriksen a tool too for saying he wants new challenge? He made it even clear that he wants out.

Re bold part, club who can afford him will pay him more than 350K per week, not club like Spurs. I thought that was very obvious. You can add Juventus to the list too alongside Madrid, Barca, PSG.

I'd rather be playing at a club that is capable of making a CL final than one finishing sixth but it's all about opinions.

And again, you won't be offering 'a lot more money' since I imagine a big contract is already on offer, unless you're prepared to absolutely break the bank for Eriksen which would be silly.

Why do people keep saying this? We're hardly the only club that would try and sign him. Levy would sell to anyone else if he had the option. Your post depends on us being the only club in for him, or Eriksen having his heart set on joining us.

Agree so why wouldn't Eriksen, just as likely hedge his bets, just encase of an injury?

If the Spanish aren't after him there is every chance he might fancy coming to United.

Not saying he will but it is possible.

 wow that's something else. Don't get me wrong I liked Carrick and think he was a very good player but let's get real here, your claim is laughable.

Took the words out my mouth, so he's a world class midfielder, better than prime Carrick but yet United are the only team that wants him for £70-80M :wenger:. How the feck does that work?

Sure, one time means Spurs are regular CL finalists now. Lets forget that last season was the first time Spurs won a CL tie since Crouch did that against Milan nearly 9-10 years ago.

End of 2017-18, Manutd finished 2nd in the league and end of 2018-19 we are 6th (Chelsea moved from 5th to 3rd)/ Thats how quickly things change. Luckily players wont be thinking only short term.

It wouldn’t be silly at all considering we need to improve our midfield by a huge margin, and Eriksen provides exactly that.

Even him wouldn’t solve ALL our midfield problems, but it would be a big step.

Comparing Carrick and Eriksen? One was a deeper midfielder who controlled the game and other is attacking mid.

It would be silly though considering Eriksen is attacking mid and we don't want one. If anything we should be breaking bank for CM and push Pogba higher up the pitch.

So? It still happened last season. Right now we're much better placed to do something in Europe than you are as a club, and bigger favourites to keep getting European football. It's still up in the air whether you'll even manage top 4 next season, let alone be getting to the final of such competitions.

And we finished 3rd in 17/18, 2nd not long before that too. The instability of United is one of the major reasons I don't think Eriksen would be remotely interested in you. There's no guarantee whatsoever you're going to be in fit shape to challenge for major titles soon, you're so far behind City and Liverpool it'll take years to get back there. Eriksen is getting on now, his next club has to be a careful choice and will likely be one where he's got stability and almost a guarantee of major titles. Hence why I wouldn't be surprised if he chose a Juve or PSG, though I think his heart lies with one of the Spanish giants.

But anyway, I'm done with this discussion .. it's United fans chest beating about how much a Spurs player would want to join them for the millionth time and it's a little bit boring. We'll wait and see how this summer transfer window goes but I'm pretty certain Eriksen will either still be a Spurs player at the end of the window, or will be playing abroad.

But that is exactly what the article is saying. We might be the only club that has the money to buy him at the moment. Putting us front of the queue and leaving Levy with little option.
Ultimately, I reckon he will end up elsewhere.

Juve would pay him a shit lot more than £350k?

Eriksen didn't show up to training late, didn't have his agent clearly saying he wanted out and didn't show up to tour dressed differently from the rest of his team mates. I get your a Pogba fan, fair enough, like I said hes a quality footballer I just find him a bit of a twat.

So loads of clubs equals 4?

Carrick was a great cm, very tidy and good at his role, but 'on a different level to Eriksen' ??

It's just not true, at all.

Wow he dressed differently

He didn't miss training without permission, Ole gave him permission to join late.

Clubs who can afford him, so obvious I wasn't talking about clubs like Spurs. How many clubs can afford Pogba? Madrid, Barca, PSG, Juventus and all of them will pay him shit loads in wages.
