Sry but apart from that one freekick I didn't really notice Eriksen in this game. So it was at best a solid, anonymous display from him. Denmark in general was very underhelming, especially in offensive part. Switzerland even dominated them in the second half and we ourselves are not very good at the moment.
Disagree. I watched on SRF, and it was not a paticuarly good game. Denmark dominated the first half. The second half was pretty messy with lots of substitutions. Both teams are not at their best right now, and both has potential to do better, but back to Eriksen. There were a lot to be happy about. Really good distribution, and he has an eye for depth runs, that others miss. Rasmus reacted a step to slow at one point on a ball like the Rashford-against-Liverpool-one. Good corners as well. I understand your point, because of the lack of end product. That was on Rasmus and Poulsen though. The danish press are divided as well. It is everything from "Hjulmand, we have a problem", to "He really showed it to his critics". I am with the last one.

Fair enough.
Didn't know that there is such a debatte around him in Denmark at the moment. Who would be his replacement who might be better than him?

In general I was really surprised on how poor Denmark looked. As stated, Switzerland are far from our best at the moment but Denmark managed to look even worse especially in the second half. Crowd was definitely not amused as well as there were a lot of whistles at the end.

The end product was crap on both sides but apart from that, it was just a training game with lots of experiments. The danish midfield are all in lack of minutes at the moment and Rasmus is coming back from injury. Both teams were solid in defense and with problems going forward. That was mainly due to both playing 3-5-2 and neutralizing each other in midfield. i don´t think it was that bad, but it was not amusing to watch. Some fans in Denmark would like to see Celtics Matt O´Riley or Brøndbys Vallys for Eriksen. A few wants to try Napolis Lindstrøm at 10. Eriksen will surely play the Euros though. O Riley is an interesting player attracting interest from a lot of clubs including Arsenal and Atletico Madrid, who bid for him in january.

Eriksen wasn’t very good yesterday by his own standards. Gave the ball away too much.

Denmark in general is going through a tough period after an excellent 2021 Euro and subsequent World Cup qualifying. Too many of the key players are getting to the end of their careers or are not getting regular playing time. It shows in their sharpness and intensity. Then we have creative players like Damsgaard and Skov Olsen that haven’t really kicked on.

It´s interesting, how opinions differ. We were four (all footballers/trainers) watching the game. One was underwhelmed by his performance, saying pretty much what you just wrote. Two gave him MOTM and the last thought he was quite good. And yes. Denmark IS going through a difficult spell right now. Has the time come to say farewell to some great players, or can they still give something to the team? It is similar to the situation at United, with Casemiro, Eriksen or Varane being past their prime. Kasper Schmeichel, Simon Kjær, Eriksen and Thomas Delaney are slowly on their way out, but will surely play at the Euros. Others, like Morten Hjulmand, Matt O´Riley and Rasmus are taking over. I am optimistic for the danes in the next years. Same goes for United after Sir Jim hopped on board.

Definitely wasn’t MOTM. That’s crazy. He might be held to a slightly different standard than the rest of the team, because his level has been higher for a long time though.

A partial generational shift needs to happen soon. Someone like Thomas Delaney doesn’t have much more in him. Same with Kjær, although he still puts in good performances. Others like Højbjerg just need to sort out their club situation. And Hjulmand needs to realize that Yussuf Poulsen is rubbish, while Jonas Wind is actually useful.

Yussuf Poulsen who time and again persuade new coaches at a top 3 team in Germany that he must play? The guy who rescued Denmark in the qualifiers last fall - and not for the first time? Yeah, let’s get rid.

This is developing into a discussion about Denmarks national team. That does not really belong in here, but ok. There will be some danes in an Eriksen thread, so here goes: I would begin the generational shift after the EURO. Kjær and Delaney would be the first to go. Schmeichel next. Eriksen is still a keeper with the right players around him, and I think that is possible. Poulsen was not good yesterday, but I actually really like his mad pressing skills. It is no coincidence, that Hjulmand plays him.

My Euro 11 (3-5-2):

Kasper Schmeichel (Anderlecht) - Joachim Andersen (Palace), Andreas Christensen (Barcelona), Simon Kjær (AC Milan) - Joachim Mæhle (Wolfsburg) , Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (Spurs), Christian Eriksen, Morten Hjulmand (Sporting Lissabon), Viktor Kristiansen (Bologna) - Rasmus Højlund, Yussuf Poulsen (RB Leipzig)

Squad: GK: Rønnow (Union Berlin), Hermansen (Leicester) - Defense: Bah (Benfica), Skov (Hoffenheim), Vestergaard (Leicester), Rasmussen (Brøndby) - Midfield: O´Riley (Celtic), Nørgaard (Brentford), Delaney (Anderlecht) - Forwards/Wings: Skov Olsen (Brugge), Wind (Wolfsburg), Isaksen (Lazio)

Yussuf Poulsens Bundesliga starts the last few seasons. 23/24 (11), 22/23 (3), 21/22 (12). Impressive persuasion skills, indeed. And when you are talking about rescuing Denmark last fall, are you referring to scoring against San Marino? Absolutely the stuff of legends.

He has a few important goals for Denmark (Peru and Switzerland come to mind), but when he starts the game, he is poor more often than not. His technique lets him down, and the difference in quality to Jonas Wind yesterday was palpable. He is a lot better as an impact sub. Actually, it seems like Hjulmand is already clued into this, because he has thankfully only started one of our 7 Euro qualifiers.

I don’t disagree that he has his flaws, and Wind is definitely a much better footballer. I just think Yussuf’s contributions too often get ignored because his flaws are so obvious. In some games where physicality and high pressing are needed he’ll be instrumental for Denmark.
But let’s find a better place for this discussion

How the FECK can Eriksen NOT get into this team on a day like today?

I'm at the point where I want him playing. At least with a bit of space he can deliver quality. We have zero quality anywhere.

Coventry 3:3 Man Utd
I totally get why he was brought on, to recycle possession and keep things ticking, but it failed miserably as we lost energy. The guy can't run and can't dictate things anymore- maybe that tackle from Andy Carroll really did ruin him.

That tackle and his general aging. He's also one of the those players that started to play full seasons of first team football at age 18, and for some players that does seem to add up to an earlier decline. He's 32 years old and has well over 700 appearances for club and country, even though he obviously had a little break after his heart problem.

Yeah, you're right. His injury record/appearances at Spurs was fantastic- 45+ appearances consecutively for a lot of seasons. Was quite surprised to see that.

I do get why he was brought on but my god, that wasn't good in terms of impact.

You can bring him on if the other players are offering the running around him not when everyone else is also tired. He should leave in the summer

I thought he was the only United player today who brought some composure on the ball when he was surrounded by a shitshow of chaotic incompetence.

Shouldn’t ever do an interviewing asking for more minutes again. If that’s what you do when you get in the pitch.

I agree. If you go and look at his stats when you have cooled down, you will see that as well. He was not the problem. There was lots of problem today though.

Completely frozen out and then pops up today to see out the game. I know Carroll did a number on him & he hasn't been the same since, but I don't want to blame these players who get a chance once every bluemoon to pop in to see out or win a game from a hopeless position.

Might be but stats wont show that very weak shot he shot against a defender in extra time. A counter followed after that. Someone with Eriksen his experience shouldnt do that. I dont think he had a good game eventhough his stats might have been fine.

Is not, never has been and never will be a good enough DM. He's an AM or a CM in a midfield 3 like at Brentford. Doesnt work for the team enough for a position with defensive responsibility

Agree, and he misplaced two long passes as well. Besides that, he was a calming factor whenever he was on the ball, but that does not fit the agenda at the moment. An I am as pissed after the game as everyone else in here. And he showed up for the pen as well.

Has no business been here, another one collecting his pension on our behest

Way past it, doesn’t deserve being in the match day squad any longer.

Said it at the time. Even on a free he was a bad signing. I didn't even like him in his prime at Tottenham, never mind the older version we got.

He was always another Bruno. A lightweight who's terrible under pressure with the tendency to go Hollywood. Except worse as Bruno at least works incredibly hard out of possession.

I love Christian, a classy footballer and a man who literally overcame death.

However, even I have to say that he's done now.

He took my favourite penalty of the 5 though, so that's something.

Nah thats not true, he was very good for most of last season - so on a free that was pretty worthwhile.

That horrendous injury of that cnut Carrol did him dirty, his legs are gone

See, I disagree. Both him and Casemiro get a lot of praise for last season and I thought both were rubbish. Both of them are playing exactly like they have always done. It's just that the new transfer shine - coupled with Rashford not being in excellent goalscoring form to bail us out of terrible performances - has worn off.

How our players decline so quickly? Year ago Eriksen was one of our best performers. This year he is a shadow of that player. Such a shame because he is a brilliant player.

It is hard to shine when you are almost never playing. Kills the rhythm.

Surprised he's not been getting hammered in here. To come out moaning about minutes and then come on and put in the most nothing cameo, if anything costing us, is a joke. He should be nowhere near this club.

He seems like a nice guy, and the fact that he came back to play football after what happened buys him a lot of leeway. If you look at his performances objectively, he's terrible. An atrocious signing even on a free because it was another short sighted signing that prevented us from properly addressing the midfield.

Everything people criticise Bruno for, which I agree with and was the first to point out on here because I'd actually watched him for Sporting, Eriksen is guilty of but 10x worse due to his lack of physicality.
