Hes still pretty good. Loved him yesterday and he was getting back into the swing of things before the injury too
Mainoo, I'm convinced is going to replace Casemiro long term, becoming our Rodri/Kante in the process. His replacement should be Mainoo.
Step forward Dan Gore. His aggressive too. There must be a player out there that has his ball playing ability (doesn't even have to be as great) but can also physically get about.
Yes, it does look that way. I'd prefer him as a deep-lying playmaker alongside a more natural holder.Mainoo, I'm convinced is going to replace Casemiro long term, becoming our Rodri/Kante in the process.
That would be a waste, imho. He has good vision, very good passer and engine. I'm actually convinced his best position is that Eriksen's (under EtH), making good of his deep and advanced playmaking.Mainoo, I'm convinced is going to replace Casemiro long term, becoming our Rodri/Kante in the process.
truth be told. Even if this kid plays deeper than that he is destined to run and playmake games at the Effenberg/Modric level. He clearly has "the sauce" such players have. The only thing left is for him to fulfill that potential. That would be a waste, imho. He has good vision, very good passer and engine. Globally, I'm thinking of him similar to Modric.
You just basically need energetic midfielders and he falls apart, we can't rely on him.He can't be our best midfielder to being finished within 4 days. Didn't play well today but he's better than that.
It’s entirely down to his gas tank. He can’t play more than 60 mins of top level football, probably more than once a week, realistically. He's so bloody inconsistent. Strange for a player his age.

His technical abilities on the ball are still very sharp. He’s great with the ball at both feet, and his set pieces and generally strong. He’s a totally non entity off the ball, and he can’t physically play as long as you need him to.
Of all our midfielders, he probably has the most traits appropriate for a good level no.8, but even he is still so far away from what we truly need.
48 out of 54 passes made today? Not sure about that. I agree, his short passing game is still not good enough (which is what my initial post alluded to) but I don’t know if that was the criticism today. No he's inconsistent with the ball as well. I'm not buying he was knackered from the first whistle today. His passing today was awful and a player of his stature and experience would have a certain minimum level you'd think.

Weight of pass, choice of pass. Stuff stats don't cover. We also need more passes from him. 48 way too low for his position.
This is true of a lot of our players but he's capable of being better but every other week his level drops.
I don't think we have to guess at that, VDB is one of the most pointless players to ever grace a Man United shirt. All I can say is Donny van de beek must be one the worst footballers ever if he cannot even get 10 minutes
I agree with this. He still has plenty of quality, just horribly misused and mismanaged.Another player who I don’t think is well suited to the current set up.
At this stage in his career, I think he is far better suited as a DLP, rather than pushing on as one of the 8s.
Appreciate you can’t play him as a lone 6, and potentially not even in a double pivot against certain opponents with lots of physicality.
But still a very good option against 75% of opponents if properly utilised.
He would have been a good transfer as a squad player. Coming off the bench normally, starting a decent amount of games but not too many...it would have been an intelligent free transfer to improve the squad while the money was spent elsewhere. Unfortunately we ended up using him as first choice last season which was already causing a significant drop-off of form, then he copped that injury and he's badly struggled ever since.I still think he was a terrible transfer. Even on a free. A very overrated footballer.
Should never play here again
I've never really liked Eriksen so I wouldn't have been happy with his transfer at the best of times, but bringing him in as a stopgap at the point in his career that we did was especially awful. A big part of it is that I'm tired of us not properly addressing the midfield. The last time I thought we did was in 2007 where, after we won the league with a great duo in Scholes and Carrick, with Fletcher in there as a rotational option, we added Anderson and Hargreaves. That's nearing 20 years ago now.He would have been a good transfer as a squad player.
