No way. Benteke is not a starting quality striker for a top European team. His build up play is decent and he's a well rounded player, but for £30 million or thereabouts (which is what Villa will demand), we should be targeting a young striker who can become one of the best around when Rooney eventually drops off, and lead the clubs on both the domestic and European front. A developing version Benzema or Lewandowski, a player of that sort. And Benteke is far removed from that level. Every other season we see players who are labelled 'beasts' and can score 15 goals or thereabouts for some of the smaller Premier League clubs, and guesstimate their level in a side with better team-mates, but it almost never works out. Not an exact science but the likes of Darren Dent, Andy Johnson, Demba Ba, Wilfried Bony among several others are all testament to that and kind of flopped after their big moves. Benteke's record through the past 2 seasons, and general skill-level is almost identical to those players before their moves to bigger clubs, and that's not what we should be targeting going forward.
Rather give more minutes to Wilson who has all the potential in the world. Might backfire a bit, but you have to trust academy players and give them the chance to shine. Signing an above average squad option like Benteke will just take away developmental time from Wilson, and hamper his growth. Even if he sinks and doesn't develop well enough, the squad can be supplmented by better options. Then there are the likes of Kane who in his first full season at Tottenham showed more quality that Benteke did over the same period, not necessarily goalscoring either but his technique, movement inside the box, and general link-up play; plus he is 3 years younger, and provided he stays focussed on the game, has the potential to be one of the best #9s around. That's aside from even the likes of Lacazette, Paco, Berardi or Milik who have more potential for the future.
