Chido Obi

What i meant by not reaching his full potential, I meant by not in the running for Ballon Dors and staring on the big stage for England, he will probably never play international football for England again.

Very, very few players that are seen as having crazy high potential, go on to be close to winning the Ballon d'Or.

In the last 20 years yes, because of Ronaldo and Messi. But before that, there were usually quite a lot of different players in the top-3 of the Ballon d'Or. If you had a really good season for club or country (especially as an attacker) - the chance of reaching top-3 was decent

If and its a big if Greenwood has kept progressing on the pitch the way he was gong then its not realistic to say he would have the ability to contend for Ballon d'Or, especially if he was staring for England. He blew his chances with his behavior.

Chido getting good reports for his performance today. Would happily give him 15 mins vs Palace to see what he can do.

I genuinely think he's ready for a bench spot atleast given how shit and average Zirkzee and Hoj has been so far. He's been very good at the u21 level too IMO.

With most of the youngsters, there's a question/doubt of them being physically ready for senior team, I don't think there's that problem with Obi.

I think he’s physically ready! Some of his hold up play has been exceptional and he clearly knows how to finish! However, having just turned 17 is he mature enough emotionally to cope with the spotlight. I guess only the coaches know that answer!

Wasn’t Rashford 17 when he broke into the first team? If your good enough then your old enough I suppose. Worth a shot considering our other attacking options are useless. We need excitement upfront again.

Yes, he's only 17 but he looks physically capable to cope in PL, plus the CF is arguably our weakest area.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him do 6-12 months at Lausanne at some point, maybe next season. I see some parallels with Haaland with him, and wonder if he’ll need to take a similar road to the top. But I do wonder whether he can be our Haaland - a supreme, physical goal scorer. But Haaland took a long road to City. Throwing Obi in the first team at 17 may ruin him I fear. There’s something special there so we need to be careful with it.

Lausanne and then Nice would be a not dissimilar route to Salzburg then Dortmund.

Style wise he actually reminds me of a bigger Mason Greenwood. Very similar how they dribble and carry the ball.

I'd love to see him get a few minutes in some upcoming games.

Isn't that part of the argument for not thrusting him in too soon though. Look where Rashfords head has gone with too much too soon.

Obviously Chido could have a totally different mindset, but that is what the coaches need to figure out before thrusting him in.

Rashford's issue wasn't how he started. It's he was managed after that.

Lingard broke through much later and look at how he turned out. For every Rashford, there's a Cesc, Yamal, Gavi etc.

Shots on goal! I remember those!!

He looks strong, rapid and technically proficient. If this Heaven lad is signed from the Arse academy for the first team, I don’t see why Chido shouldn’t be considered the same?
Chido was supposedly signed to be our third choice striker but look at what's happened in reality. Heaven looks miles away from being first team ready. He'll be playing alongside Chido.

True but to be fair Rashford was brought in around the likes of Lingard/Pogba. No wonder his head went. Amorims trying to change the mindset and culture.

Looks very promising. He is actually quite good on the ball, I was expecting him to be more of a poacher.

Obviously not against top quality opposition but he looks physically quite ready. Hopefully we see him get a few cameos from the bench before the end of the season.

There was never anything unprofessional as such about Lingard and Pogba. Never any reports of them missing training, not training well, going to nightclubs when they shouldn’t. They were just young men who liked dancing. There are a lot of lazy generalisations with certain players.

They was still players with bad attitude and wrong mentality though. Mixing with that group is going to make your head turn at a young age. They wasn’t mature one bit

They were not. This is again lazy stereotyping. For what reason was Lingard a player with a ‘bad attitude and wrong mentality’, for example? Up until now, I still haven’t seen a unanimous branding of Jack Grealish as a player with a bad attitude and wrong mentality, for example, despite his number of transgressions. It’s just so easy for ‘certain’ players to get stuck with an ‘attitude problem’ label. Get a fancy haircut, wear too much jewellery for some people’s liking and you’re basically no different from a rapper in many people’s eyes.

They were not the most matured perhaps, probably because they were 23/24 years old, but they were not unprofessional players, certainly no less than most others. Ironically, the ‘certain’ types of players who are seen as model pros in today’s game often have far greater transgressions upon scrutiny. Perhaps they got away with it due to performances, but that’s a different issue. Players like Roy Keane had an attitude problem. He was insubordinate to all management and, just like Pogba and his greedy agent Raiola, he was money chasing and threatened to leave the club via his agent if not given more money. Not only is he not portrayed as a player with an attitude problem, he’s portrayed as someone young pros should follow! Paul Scholes outright refused to play a game. Heaven forbid Pogba did that, we wouldn’t hear the end of it. John Terry, England’s Lion, who retired seen as a natural to go into management - his on/off-field transgressions are endless and well-documented.

There is absolutely no way Jesse Lingard, of all players, is the one who gets stuck with a ‘bad attitude and wrong mentality’ label. Heaven forbid a young man likes dancing.

Yeah I'd be interested to see him get few cameos, let's face it we haven't got anyone delivering as a striker

I think his movement is better in the box. As good as Greenwood was, his movement at senior level was often frustrating and that's why he was shunted out to the wide forward areas.

Eh, what?! Basically everyone say that Grealish as a player with bad attitude and wrong mentality.

And Lingard, according to himself, had a drinking problem. If you dont understand that you have the wrong mentality as a footballer when you end up with a drinking problem you are truly lost.

Wow, within 2 years we'll have him, Tel and god knows what other sensational quality upfront. Flying fullbacks and a competent keeper. Garnacho, Onana etc. will be a distant memory as we close in on our 14th PL title. Great to know we're on this road.
