Chido Obi | 2024/25 Performances

Missed some parts of the game, looked decent, but not really ready. Is there a reason for why he doesn't run much?

Played well.

Should have had a penalty, defender kicked straight through the back of him to get the ball..

He’s showed glimpses in his positioning but he’s not very energetic by the looks of things. Hope that and his first touches improve over time. Don’t think he should start next game straight away.

Very clearly isn’t ready for first team football. It’s not fair to be relying on him like this now, I’m not shitting on him, on the contrary I fear for his development.
I got the piss ripped out of me for this take.

He made a few good chances and troubled the keeper but is not ready at all, I agree 100%

Looked quite lively, seems to have a natural strikers' instinct which is something we're sorely missing.

Well worth bringing off the bench more this season.

He shouldn’t be playing, sure. But we fecking need him to be. That’s how dire Manchester United football club is right now. We require a 17 year old who has barely played under 18s to be our striker because the two first team players we have signed for a combined fee of nearly £100m cannot do the job there.

A bit of a shiny new toy syndrome for me. Probably an upgrade on Hojlund solely on the carnage factor.

Incredibly raw, erratic hold up play - must be honest (let me clear my throat… yes he’s a young lad), I’ve not seen anything from these cameos to indicate that he is a future #9 good enough to start every week.

Hojlund has been absolutely brutal, probably due a start over him, but I’m not anticipating much from Chido

Should be nowhere near the team. Don’t let the bright things he did fool you, he’s not ready for this yet and throwing him in is going to hamper his development. He can sit on the bench no probs and have 15 mins here or there but the fact that he’s doing better than Hojlund means we are going to put too much expectation on his shoulders. This thread is full of it already

Genuinely fear for his development at this stage

Came on and his first 20 minutes or so was completely anonymous. Grew into the game after that and had some decent moments in the box, but still wasn't very involved outside of it.

He should continue getting some minutes here and there, but I worry if we rely on him too much at this stage that it'll hurt his development.

If he's better than Hojlund we play him. This harming development argument is bollocks.

I was worried that Bassey would bully him after he’d smashed Hojlund all over the spot but that just shows how much Rasmus flatters to deceive.

Very strong and fast with a few tidy touches, although admittedly he also made a few mistakes. Looks a real player just still a bit raw.

He's a striker. You want him in the box?

20-25 mins at the end of games is the way to go. He is not ready to start games no matter how "he is better than Hojlund" he looks.

What is there left to lose? Just play the kid.

I agree with those who say he's not yet ready to be starting regularly for us yet. With that said, he was quite significantly better than our only other option up front...

Super raw, but he caused problems, Bassey was dealing with Hojlund like a child but Obi was able to compete, be a nuisance. Ideally he would be kept in a sub role moving forward, get the last 30 when more space is available but Hojlund has been so desperately poor that he might need to start a few.

He had his head down and looked a bit nervous when he came on, but really grew into it, and actually looked like a striker.

Loads of work to do still, needs to fill out, and ideally you'd be giving him a few minutes here and there, but Hojlund is forcing the issue, so I expect him to play a big part for the rest of the season now.

He needs more development, doesn’t run a lot not sure if that’s his natural game (havnt watched him aside from highlights ) looked promising, probably still learning how to use his frame to counter defenders but found himself with chances and at young age that’s what you want from strikers to be in right place and have chances.
It’s almost as his game utilises finesse, imho at young age you need work rate and intensity and technique then work your way to more finesse. A young tevez would be good example and I would look for such a player in youngsters with a view for senior football.

I would look to give him more minutes, e.g. the way Amorim used him in this game. Bringing him on for 15/20 minutes in the second half of games seems about right.

The contrast between a 18 year Rashford and a 18 year old Obi is huge. Nowhere near ready the first team. Wished that he had put away his chance where their goalie pushed it over the bar

Lad chose United over Arsenal to play, so play him.

Physicality is already there, and Ruben wants that.

He’s not ready yet, but he was definitely more of a threat when he came on. I think he had more shots on goal in that second half than Hojlund has had in the last month which is pretty damning.
